Mega-producer, Timbaland, has been in the game for quite some time. Not only is he an amazing music producer, he’s also a singer, songwriter, rapper, and a DJ. To say that he’s talented would be an understatement…the brotha is a musical genius. While many people know him from collaborating with the late Aaliyah, he’s also worked with Jay Z, Nas, Ludacris, Bubba Sparxxx, Madonna, Rihanna, OneRepublic, Brandy, Drake, Rick Ross not to mention that he’s worked with Missy Elliot.

Some have labeled Timb’ ‘the Quincy Jones of Generation X.’ And thee’s no doubt that Timbaland is one of the best producers in the game by far, with a sound of his own that he developed through listening to warped records.

“If you leave a a record out in the sun, it will warp, he notes in his memoir Timbaland. [I]t’s going to have a strange, distorted sound. I love that sound and I started making beats with that vibe. I was thinking, Warp it a little, when I added belching synthesizers to the beat I was working on.”

Making music with a unique sound seems to be a family business, because Timbaland revealed that he has a cousin who is also mega music producer. Just as Timbaland developed his own sound, his cousin is known for his unique flare as well. Both are known for making beats, and there was once a rumor that the cousins would square off in a beat battle. Timbaland Reveals Pharrell Williams Is His Cousin!

Lo and behold, Timbaland is the cousin of  another hit-making producer/artist, Pharrell Williams! They’re related through their grandmothers. On “The Cruz Show,” Timbaland revealed that he and Williams were in a musical group together called, Surrounded by Idiots. This isn’t the first time that Timbaland let the cat out the bag as he also revealed that Williams was his cousin in his memoir.

When the 2 musical cousins were in high school, Timbaland was the DJ and Pharrell served as one of several rappers. Magoo, who would eventually release several albums with Timbaland, was also a member. During the interview, Timbaland revealed how innovative their music was.

How Timbaland’s & Pharrell’s Personal Lives Have Changed Majorly In Recent Years

Pharrell and Timbaland are both fathers as well as husbands. In 2008, Timbaland, whose legal name is Timothy Mosley, married Monique Mosley. However, after 7 years of marriage and one daughter, Reign, the couple decided to divorce as Monique grew tired of Timbaland’s infidelity.

His cousin, Pharrell Williams, however, celebrated the birth of triplets as his wife, Helen Lasichanh, gave birth to the babies in January 2017. Lasichanh and Williams, who wed in October 2013, are also parents to son, Rocket Ayer.

In his memoir, Timbaland revealed that he’s no where near done. The musical icon has a goal of creating a musical catalog that is comparable to Quincy Jones.

In case y’all hadn’t heard…Swizz Beatz and Timbaland created the now-popular music battle show, “Verzuz,” where everyone from Stephanie Mills vs. Chaka Kahn; to Three Six Mafia verses Bone Thugs N’ Harmony have embarked in mostly friendly music battles against each other.

In case you also hadn’t heard, in January 2021 Swizz and Timb’ sold “Verzuz” to streaming service, Triller — which has greatly benefitted from their show. That’s where the problem comes in.

Why Swizz Beatz And Timbaland Are Suing Triller Over “Verzuz”

The two mega-producers have just hit Triller with a $28 million dollar lawsuit. Their lawsuit claims Triller is trying to stick Swizz and Timbaland for their paper.

It’s being reported that after signing an agreement to sell Verzuz to Triller, the streaming service defaulted on the deal after just two payments:

Via TMZ: Swizz and Timbaland say they settled with Triller after the initial default, but they say Triller played the same game as before … making one installment and then not paying up the remaining balance.

As a result of the alleged defaulted payments, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz are not only suing for $28 million, but also for interest.

Triller Responds To Lawsuit Claims

Now that Triller has been publicly put on blast, the company has released a statement with their take on the money they owe Timb’ and Swizz…and to be honest…so far, Triller’s side of the story sounds a tad suspect in my humble opinion:

Via TMZ: A rep for Triller just released a statement, saying, “This is not a feud over VERZUZ, but simply about earn-out payments to Swizz and Tim. Swizz and Tim have personally been paid by Triller over $50 million in cash and stock to-date, and they stand to benefit even more over time. In addition, they have annual obligations, which if met, and no breach has occurred, entitles them to additional payments. …

Only one payment of $10 million is in question. We do not believe they have met the thresholds for that payment yet, which include, but are not limited to, delivery of a set number of VERZUZ events for 2022. We have been trying to resolve this amicably and this does not affect VERZUZ operations or Triller’s ownership of VERZUZ. If this does proceed in court, we look forward to a judgment that weighs all the facts.”

Hopefully, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz get whatever amount of profits they rightfully deserve for creating one of the most popular music battles of today’s time…one that clearly helped Triller come up big time…just sayin.’ 🤷🏾‍♂️

But Tim’s devastation lasted far longer and deeper than most…he recently revealed that he fell into a deep depression following Aaliyah’s deadly plane crash that lasted well over a decade. In 2015 –15 years after Aaliyah’s passing– Timbaland admitted that he was just getting to the point of coming to terms with the death of the woman he was extremely in love with until her dying day. Timbaland Admits To Marrying Ex-Wife Because She ‘Looked Like Aaliyah’

Although Aaliyah is gone, she had a major influence on Timbaland’s marriage years later. The hit producer admitted that one constant reminder he had of the singer was his now soon-to-be-ex-wife. According to Express UK, Timbaland explained how the woman he married initially caught his attention.

When Timbaland first laid eyes on music executive, Monique Idlett, she reminded him of Aaliyah. The two met in Jamaica while attending a music event. “When I first saw her, I said, ‘That’s the girl I’m gonna marry’, because she reminded me of Aaliyah… I thought I saw a ghost. I said, ‘Oh my goodness, do you see what I’m seeing? I ain’t crazy!'”

Timbaland and Monique tied the knot in 2008 and have a daughter together. They went on to become a massive power couple in the music industry and even collaborated together for the production of Empire. Back in 2015, the two discussed “making history together,” reports New York Post.

However, the relationship has taken a disheartening turn for the worse and it looks like Tim’ and Monique are headed for divorce – again. In 2016, Monique filed for divorce from Timbaland for the second time, and he was hit with serious allegations from his divorce attorneys.

According to the Daily Mail, Timbo reportedly failed to pay $440,000 to his divorce attorneys and now he’s been hit with a lien against his $5 million Miami, FL mansion. But, despite the legal woes, it looks like Timbaland is moving on for good, this time. In fact, Timbo has a new lady in his life and you can only guess who she resemblances. Surprisingly, she also favors Aaliyah…

Jay Z and Timbaland are about to come outta their pockets with a few million if one 1970’s soul singer has his way in court.

The two hip hop legends have just been named in a lawsuit, by former Stax Records singer, Ernie Hines (81), who 21 years later has apparently just recently discovered that Jay Z and Timbaland sampled his songs in two different records.

According to the lawsuits, Jay Z is accused of sampling Hines’ 1969 single, “Help Me,” on his 1998 hit, “Paper Chase.” Music producer, Timbaland, is accused of sampling that same Hines song on singer, Ginuwine’s, 1999 hit, “Toe 2 Toe.”

Both tracks were produced by Timbaland, yet, neither of he, nor Jay Z, had permission to use the song, according to Hines and his attorney.

In addition to Jay Z and Timbaland, Hines is also suing Roc-A-Fella Records, Def Jam Recordings, Universal Music Group and Sony Music.

As to why it took the soul legend 21 years to file a copyright infringement lawsuit against all of the aforementioned? His attorney has a an answer for that:

Timbaland produced both tracks, and the document notes that “Toe 2 Toe” has sold over “2 million copies.”

Hines’ attorney, Christopher Brown, writes that his client is a “senior citizen, does not listen to rap music and was unaware” that the songs contained his music and composition.

The lawsuit claims neither Jay nor Timbaland ever reached out to Hines, and between 1998 through [2018] never paid a dime to sample his work.

Ernie Hines is now demanding $2 million in his lawsuit. Pretty sure Ernie Hines be able to get his paper, if his claims are accurate.

Although his Aaliyah b-day tribute was short, it was filled with much emotion- emotion that Timbaland boldly revealed to the world years after her passing. Many of y’all may recall when we previously reported that Timbaland admitted he was madly in love with Aaliyah and fell into a severe depression after she’d passed away. In fact, he admitted in a recent interview, that his depression was so severe, that he has only recently began to truly emerge out of it. Here’s what he said in a prior interview:

He revealed that he has been severely addicted to drugs- in particular, the prescription pain med, Oxycontin. Although he’s thankfully clean and sober now, Timbaland said that in recent years, he’s had a very hard time dealing with not being on top anymore in the music game. That realization pushed him even deeper into drug addiction.

Via RS: “I was on drugs, dude,” [Timbaland] says. “I was on OxyContin.” […] “Music is a gift and curse,” he says. “Once you’re not popping, it plays with your mind. The pills helped block out the noise – I’d just sleep all day. I remember Jay-Z told me one time, ‘Don’t do no more interviews’ – because I was saying crazy sh*t.” His now-girlfriend, Michelle, recalls that at the end Timbaland was taking doses so high that she was genuinely worried he’d die in his sleep. “It was so bad, to the point where I couldn’t even sleep,” she says. “I’d put my hand right by his nose, just to see if he was still breathing.”

He eventually suffered what he believes to be a near-death overdose while sleeping three years ago. “All I can tell you is that there was a light,” he says. “I woke up trying to catch my breath, like I was underwater. But through that whole thing I saw life – I saw where I would be if I don’t change, and where I could be if I did.” The following day he began weaning off the pills, and soon after made a clean break – which resulted in a brutal period of withdrawal. “But I thought about Michael Jackson,” he says. “I didn’t want to be old and taking these pills.”

His MAJOR Tax Bill

Timbaland’s addictions started as a result of several factors: He began taking oxycontin in his 30’s to deal with ongoing pain from being shot as a teen. His marriage to his now ex-wife was falling apart before his eyes, and like he said, his career was at a low point. Due to all of that drama, Timbaland’s bread was seriously depleting, but the IRS wanted their money anyway and he found himself owing millions to ‘Uncle Sam.’ Thankfully, he’s just now able to settle his years-long debt. Here’s what was reported:

Via TheBlast: Mega music producer Timbaland cut a massive check to the government to settle his tax debt. According to documents obtained by The Blast, Timbaland owed $3.8 million in back taxes. The government filed a lien against his property in October, but has released it now that he’s paid in full. The docs say Timbaland owed $117,230.19 for 2012, $1,750,048.34 for 2014, and $1,951,472.76 for 2015.
