What we do know is that one of the group’s members…the lead singer, Big Bub- who is like a triple threat because he also is a songwriter and producer- went on to make some major moves in the music game. But not before Motown Records offered him a position with a very successful R&B group that many artists would have jumped at the opportunity to join…but surprisingly, Big Bub declined their offer and here’s why…

MOTOWN WANTED BIG BUB TO JOIN BOYZ II MEN

Although Big Bub would have made a lot of noise and a lot of money if he would have joined Boyz II Men, for him it was bigger than fame and fortune. He explained that in his SoulTrain interview below…

BIG BUB ON WHY HE CHOSE LOYALTY OVER FAME & FORTUNE WITH BOYZ II MEN

Big Bub: “Motown didn’t want to push Today anymore, and they were asking me to join Boyz II Men, and they were originally a 5 member group. I had loyalty to my boys, and plus they are from Philly–nothing against Philly–but I’m from Jersey and I can’t be on a song singing Motown Philly (laughs); it just didn’t match or look good. But, the executives were putting all of their money on that group and I just couldn’t see myself doing that to my group mates in Today. I decided to go solo.”

ON IF HE REGRETS REFUSING TO JOIN BIIM:

Big Bub: “No, I don’t. I think Boyz II Men are very talented and I have a great relationship with them. It was a business move and I understood that. I had to stay loyal to my boys. If you’re not going to push us as a group, then I might as well do the solo thing.”

Well one thing’s for sure, we can’t knock a brotha for being loyal to his crew. Big Bub went on to have some solo R&B success and eventually became an executive at Motown from 1995 to 1997 under the leadership of Andre Harrell. Nowadays he’s still in the music game creating music and working with other artists.
