Lalah Hathaway

BAM!!! It’s Lalah Hathaway…you know, the late, great Donny Hathaway’s baby girl!

Told you she was a SANGIN’ somebody. This is the only singer we know who can hit four octave at one time to make her voice harmonize with itself in four different directions. That sounds weird, we know, but if we hadn’t seen it with our own eyes, we wouldn’t have understood it either…

Earlier this year (in Feb. 2016), Lalah received a Grammy Award for ‘Best Traditional Performance’ for her rendition of her Dad’s song, “Little Ghetto Boy.” That was a beautiful thing and it was an accolade that was long overdue for Lalah, based on the massive amount of hot garbage being labeled as “R&B” on the radio today. That reminds me, why aren’t there more real singers getting airplay in mainstream media like the Lalah’s and the Ledisi’s, and the the Rashaan paterson’s and Dwele’s of today? (I can go on and on but I’ll stop there, before I get angry just thinking about the blatant disrespect by some of these major record label execs…moving on…

Lalah Hathaway

Remember we mentioned that Lalah has had some pretty harsh online drama going on lately? In case you didn’t catch our previous report, last week Lalah was getting all kinds of criticism from the Greek organizations (Black fraternities and sororities) after she paid homage to her Dad, who was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, by posting a photo of herself wearing an Alpha hat. For those who don’t know, there is an unspoken code in the Greek community that many of them take deathly seriously, and that is that by no means is a non-member of any particular Greek organization, to ever wear Greek paraphernalia of an organization they are not a part of of. Some Lalah followers were all over her Instagram pages letting her have it! The pic is still up by the way and Lalah has explained that she meant no harm in paying tribute to her daddy. She has since moved on and continued singing and touching folks spirit.

Make some noise if you got this one right family and if you didn’t, it’s all good…better luck next time.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
