Tina Turner was the original choice! Turner was offered the role in The Color Purple, but turned it down because she was not ready for a dramatic role, and the traumas the character faces in the film are too similar to real incidents involving her father and her ex-husband, Ike Turner, as she mentioned in an 1985 interview for KNT News Service.

”Acting is what I want to finish my life with,” says Tina. She has appeared in a several other roles and her last acting role was in the TV show, ALLY MCBEAL in 2000. So what’s the back-story on her turning down that magical role in The Color Purple?
