Bobby Brown has been called many things- some good, some not so good. But one thing that everyone will always remember him as, once his journey is complete (which hopefully will be many, many years from now), is as a man/celebrity who was NEVER afraid to share his REAL self -the good, bad, and the ugly- with the world.

That’s exactly what Bobby B. did in his recent performance on the birthday of his beloved daughter, Bobbi Kristina, who would have turned 24 years old on March 4, 2017. Just four short months away from the 2-year anniversary of her death on July 26, 2015, Bobby celebrated her the best way he knows how- through song.

One of the hardest things in the world to witness is a grieving parent who has lost a child. That is a pain no parent should ever have to endure and it’s one of the most unnatural processes of death there is.

What you’re about to witness is Bobby Brown on stage as a grieving parent, not a superstar who’s sold of millions of records, not the controversial New Edition member. You’re simply witnessing Bobby, who felt all alone in that moment, thinking about he and Whitney Houston’s baby girl.

In the video, Bobby sang “Tender Roni” in honor of Bobbi Kris.’ But prior to that, he first talked about her, referring to March 4th, as “the most important day of my life. My daughter was born at 12 on this day.”

Before Bobby could cue up the band, he broke down, mid-sentence, and the crowd cheered him on as he tried his hardest to talk himself back up to perform the song. At one point, Bobby looked to his far right and must have been talking to one of his other children when he said “This is for your sister.”

Another thing that was quite noticeable is Bobby had slightly slurred speech. We know that he’s been sober from hard drugs for many years now, but he has stated that he still drinks sometimes. So it’s understandable if he wanted to somewhat numb his pain on that day with a drink, or two. We just hope that overall, he’s still handling his daughter’s death as best as he could and holding on to his sobriety as much as possible.

The only annoyance in all of this, is that one heartless fool can be heard in the audience shouting something to the effect of “Sing the damn song man!” to Bobby as he was crying. That guy should be ashamed of himself, but other than that, this was emotional and touching to witness…

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
