Her New Job:

According to Ice Cream Convos, Maia has joined the season two cast of From the Bottom Up. It has been reported the Centric TV reality series will follow Maia as she fights to regain control of her life and mend fences with her estranged daughter.

Since Maia spent many years addicted to drugs, the relationship with her daughter, Elizabeth Elisha Gutierrez, has been damaged for quite some time. The two were featured on Iyanla: Fix My Life back in 2012 and the session was as intense as most expected. So, Maia is hoping the latest life changes will help better her relationship with her child.

The Downward Spiral:

Following the death of her mother, Maia spiralled completely out of control. For many years, the troubled actress struggled with bipolar disorder and drug addiction while living on the streets. Several disturbing videos of Maia also surfaced online. The actress has also been arrested a number of times for public outbursts, disorderly conduct, car theft, drug possession and prostitution.

In 2010, Maia was arrested for theft and ordered to spend time at a mandatory mental health facility. At that time, she made an effort to make changes by living a sober life at a residential treatment center. In hopes of changing her life on her own, Maia even agreed to the feature on Iyanla’s show. Maia appeared to be on the right track, but things took a slight turn for the worse when she was arrested in Riverdale, GA in 2015. After that public disturbance, she was arrested at a Burger King restaurant in Atlanta after accusing a child of stealing her wallet.
