Posted On : July 23, 2018

The name of the song alone has fans everywhere thinkin’ R. Kelly is all kinds of crazy. If you haven’t heard “I Admit It,” you’ll be shocked when you hear the lyrics because he’s finally addressing all of the allegations he’s been faced with. From all of the talk about his childhood that Wendy Williams tearfully described to the rumors about his relationship with Aaliyah, the sex cult scandal, and addictions, R. Kelly discussed it all.

‘I Admit It’:

On Sunday, July 22, R. Kelly released a 19-minute song on Soundcloud titled “I Admit It,” addressing the obvious: all the rumors and allegations he’s been hit with. Surprisingly, R. Kelly decided to touch on a number of sensitive topics. However, he didn’t exactly “admit” to what people really wanted to know the truth about. He basically admitted to many of the things that could paint a picture of him being some form of victim.

As Wendy Williams recently mentioned about him, he admitted he was illiterate and molested as a child. He also admitted to other shortcomings in his life, but when it came to the more incriminating subjects, he chose his words carefully. While he did admit to sleeping with “older and younger” ladies, he definitely didn’t admit to having a thing for underage girls, although there are several allegations accusing him of otherwise.

On the Abuse Allegations:

While R. Kelly did admit quite a few things in the jaw-dropping song, there’s one thing he wouldn’t admit: his alleged part in the whole sex cult scandal. R. Kelly instead questioned the word “cult,” posing an argument about the true definition of the word. “What’s the definition of a cult?/ What’s the definition of a sex slave? / Go to the dictionary, look it up / Let me know I’ll be here waiting.”

The singer adamantly insists he didn’t abuse or brainwash anyone. “Say I’m abusing these women. What the f**k? That’s some absurd s**t. They brainwashed, really? Kidnapped, really? Can’t eat, really? Real talk that s**t sounds silly.” Maybe to R. Kelly, the women weren’t forced to do anything despite any form of manipulation he may have been responsible for. He even opened up about his relationship with Joycelyn Savage

Based on the lyrics, R. Kelly’s apparently standing his ground- that they had a choice and they chose him. Regardless, his song doesn’t help this situation either.

Blastin’ Steve Harvey and John Legend:

During the song, R. Kelly also took a few verbal jabs at Steve Harvey, John Legend, and Tom Joyner. For those who don’t know, Steve Harvey and John Legend have publicly criticized R. Kelly for the scandals and allegations he’s currently facing. Tom Joyner also made it clear he was done with R. Kelly. In fact, the famed radio host publicly supported the Mute R. Kelly campaign and vowed to never play his music again. Of course, R. Kelly isn’t too pleased about all the criticism. According to TMZ. R. Kelly slammed all three of the guys and raised a question about their criticism of him. “Why would they want to tear down another brother?” To most fans, the reason is obvious but apparently, that’s not the case for R. Kelly.

Financial Difficulties:

R. Kelly even opened up about all of the financial challenges he’s faced over the years. You probably remember R. Kelly was hit with not one but two eviction notices several months ago. That, alone, raised questions about his financial state. Now, he’s finally addressing that as well. The Grammy Award-winning singer admitted things were so bad there were times he’d gotten advances from record labels to pay bills and even resorted slept in hotels. He even went a step further to explain the real reason why he’s still touring despite how the allegations and scandals have tainted his name. “The only reason I stay on tour, is ’cause I gotta pay my rent / I never thought it would come to this, to be the most disrespected artist,” R. Kelly said.

Fans’ Reaction:

As expected, R. Kelly’s latest bombshell confession of a song has garnered mixed responses from fans everywhere. Although he may have thought it was a good idea to openly discuss his reported wrongdoings, people still insist he’s completely missed the point. In fact, now some are actually blasting him more because of his lyrics. Even celebrities are blastin’ R. Kelly this time, here’s why:

The Beginning of the End?:

To most fans, R. Kelly’s recent confession seems eerily similar to Bill Cosby’s incriminating deposition that ultimately led to his guilty verdict. Granted, he did skate around quite a few topics, but the song still raises eyebrows. Could R. Kelly have just opened a can of worms that could come back to haunt him in the near future? While that’s still up for debate, for the record, R. Kelly still isn’t facing any formal charges.
