As we previously reported, Marla Gibbs’ late sister’s name is Susie Garrett (above, L), and if she looks familiar to you, it’s because she’s had several guest roles on her sister’s show, The Jeffersons, 227, and also The Twilight Zone, and the 60’s sitcom, My Three Sons. Her most popular role was as one of the stars of the 80’s sitcom, Punky Brewster, where she played an RN (registered nurse) and grandmother to “Punky’s” friend on the show.

Old School fun fact about the show Punky Brewster: Actress Cherie Johnson, who played Susie Garrett’s character’s granddaughter on the show and Punky Brewster’s best friend, is actually the real life niece of the show’s creator. Who would’ve thought that show was actually created by an African American? Interesting.

The Gibbs women have the creative, entertainment gene running all throughout their bloodline. Can’t wait to see what Marla Gibb’s granddaughter Sonya Winton-Odamtten, along with her co-executive producer, John Kidd, have in store for us. We’ll keep y’all posted.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
