Aretha Franklin’s death has touched the hearts of fans from all walks of life; the black and white, the young and old, and even celebrities have mourned the loss of the Queen of Soul. However, there’s one celebrity some fans just weren’t interesting in hearing anything from – Bill Cosby. For those who missed it, Aretha’s fans weren’t pleased with Bill payin’ homage to the legendary singer at all. After it was confirmed that Aretha Franklin had died of pancreatic cancer, tons of people flooded social media with kind remarks about her. Bill Cosby also had a few words to say about her tragic death.

Bill Pays Homage:

Shortly after Aretha Franklin died, Bill Cosby took to Twitter and Facebook to reflect on one of the memorable times when he crossed paths with the “R.E.S.P.E.C.T.” singer. For those who don’t know, Aretha recorded the theme song for The Cosby Show spinoff A Different World. So Bill Cosby felt it was an appropriate time to thank her for her work.

“Aretha Franklin – I want to thank her for her wonderful voice singing the theme song of ‘A Different World.’ She made a big, strong, positive impact on that series,” Cosby tweeted. He also revealed how  “I am playing a cut from her CD – the title of the song is ‘Wholy Holy’ – and she’s live in a church. Bon Voyage …. Bill Cosby in person,” Cosby continued.

Dragged To Hell:

Although Bill Cosby’s tweet may seem harmless, apparently, fans weren’t pleased at all. It didn’t take long for people to see Cosby’s tweet and start chiming in. Needless to say, the tweets and comments haven’t been nice at all. According to Page Six, people definitely didn’t hold back when it came to draggin’ the troubled comedian/actor. To many people, Bill Cosby’s comments were unnecessary and off base.

Many also used the moment as an opportunity to mock Bill about his own issues and personal drama. By now, everyone knows Bill Cosby was convicted on sexual assault-related charges for drugging and raping Temple University employee Andrea Constand. That incident is said to have taken place inside the former Cosby Show star’s Philadelphia home. Then to make matters worse, she’s one of more than two dozen women to come forward with allegations against him. So, social media users wasted no time reminding him of his own predicament.

Gone Too Soon:

Aretha Franklin’s death follows a string of media reports that began circulating at the beginning of last week. Reports revealed she was gravely ill and on her deathbed but of course, that wasn’t something fans were ready to accept. Days after the initial reports, Aretha Franklin’s publicist Gwendolyn Quinn confirmed her death on Thursday, August 16.

“Franklin’s official cause of death was due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karamonos Cancer Institute,” Gwendolyn Quinn’s statement read.

Almost immediately after her death, fans began asking questions about her funeral arrangements but initially, no details about the private service were made available. All over the world memorial services and vigils have been held in Aretha Franklin’s honor. She is truly a shining star with a bright light that will never dim. Rest in peace to the Queen of Soul.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
