If Jussie Smollett thought his troubles were a done dada after the 16 felony charges against him were suddenly dropped, he’s just received a rude awakening from the city of Chicago. The Chicago Corporation Counsel is now demanding that he pays up for the financial damage he cost the city…or face more ramifications. Smollett and his camp have also issued a clap-back toward their demand.

The Chicago Corporation Counsel oversees civil cases within the city. The counsel has now hit Jussie with a bombshell that he probably didn’t expect- they sent him a letter demanding that he pop off $130,106.15 to Chicago. That cost will cover the financial weight of the investigation Jussie sparked after he claimed he was attacked in a racist/homophobic beatdown by two White men.

Some of the expenses that the $130K bill will handle, are the overtime pay for the investigators who diligently worked the case, and other costs involved within the investigation.

In a letter titled ‘Re: Repayment of Investigation Costs for False Police Report,’ started with this:

“Dear Mr. Smollett,  The City of Chicago and the Chicago Police Department take seriously those who make false statements to the police, thereby diverting resources from other investigations and undermining the criminal justice system. On January 29, 2019, you made a police report in which you falsely claimed that two men had attacked you while yelling racial and homophobic slurs. The Chicago Police Department conducted an extensive investigation into this report. Over two dozen detectives and police officers participated in the investigation, ultimately spending weeks investigating your false claims, including a substantial number of overtime hours. As part of this investigation, Chicago police reviewed video and physical evidence and conducted several interviews, expending resources that could have been used for other investigations. Ultimately, the Chicago police investigation revealed that you knowingly filed a false police report and had in fact orchestrated your own attack.”

But It Gets Worse For Jussie Though>>>

It gets worse for Jussie, he has 7  days to pay up, or else he’ll face more legal woes. Though the legal action Jussie is now facing- if he does not pay up- can’t land him in jail, he could possibly end up having to face a judge or jury. Then, if he’s found guilty of making a false police report, Smollett could end up paying three times the amount that the city is currently demanding, which would equate to approximately $390,000.00:

“If the amount is not timely paid, the Department of Law may prosecute you for making a false statement to the City under section 1-21-010 of the Municipal Code of Chicago or pursue any other legal remedy available at law. a violation of the false statement ordinance imposes a fine of not less than $500.00 and a maximum of $1,000.00 plus up to three (3) times the amount of damages the City sustains as a result of the violation…”

Team Smollett’s Response…

It looks like Jussie Smollett’s team is maintaining that he is innocent and pretty much telling the city of Chicago to kick rocks:

Jussie’s response was immediate and clear … a spokesperson told TMZ, “It is the Mayor and the Police Chief who owe Jussie an apology for dragging an innocent man’s character through the mud. Jussie has paid enough.”

The above message Smollett’s rep’ comes a day after Jussie’s attorney, Patricia Holmes, bashed Chicago officials for continuing to speak publicly about his actions.

“The case is closed. No public official has the right to violate Mr. Smollett’s due process rights,” stated Holmes. “We respectfully request all government agencies involved live up to the ethical tenets of their office … The case was dismissed. We should all allow Mr. Smollett to move on with his life as a free citizen.”

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
