Remember R&B singer Amerie? Throughout the early 2000’s, the singer would top the charts every now and then with hit singles like 1 Thing and Why Don’t We Fall In Love. For awhile she took a break from singing but she reemerged with a new career, a new husband, and a new album. The beautiful songstress recently celebrated her birthday and she received the 1 thing that she had been hoping for.

Best Birthday Ever:

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything from R&B singer Amerie. The Grammy nominated singer is mostly known for her smash 2005 hit song, 1 Thing.

The African-American and Korean singer took a break from singing and married her longtime boyfriend, record executive Lenny Nicholson in 2011. Recently, the singer turned 38 years old and she took to Instagram to share some exciting news. On the day of her birthday, January 12th, Amerie announced that she was expecting her first child. Sharing an adorable photo of her baby bump, Amerie captioned the photo by saying it was the “best birthday present ever”.

Aside from being in love and becoming a mother, Amerie has proven that she is a talented writer also. Before becoming an editor of a New York Times bestselling book, Amerie spoke to her fans on her YouTube channel where she created vlogs about beauty, style, and books. After discussing books, Amerie decided to put her Georgetown University Bachelor’s to use by becoming an editor of the anthology, Because You Love To Hate Me. The book is comprised of 13 short stories written by 13 different authors who uniquely tell stories from a villain’s point of view. Amerie spoke with Entertainment Weekly about why she chose to focus on the bad guys.

When I think of my favorite TV shows and stories, I find that ultimately, I’m asking myself Why? Why did this so-called villain do this terrible thing? Having a good reason and being hell-bent on going after a goal seems to be the difference between wanting the so-called bad guy to get caught and wanting him to prevail in the end, even if it means escaping justice. It’s why we root for Nucky Thompson and Tony Montana and Francis Underwood, after all. Everyone loves to hate a villain (or loves to love one, even), and sometimes we’re afraid of what that might mean about ourselves and our own values. What is right? What is wrong? Can something very wrong today be deemed a necessary evil years later? Where’s the line? Is there a line? For me, storytelling is more about questions than answers, and it only made sense to explore the concept of villainy from as many perspectives as possible.

R&B singer Amerie is a married woman. The singer married her long-time boyfriend, former Columbia Records executive Lenny Nicholson on June 25, 2011.

Preferring to stay out of the limelight, when Amerie spoke to The Breakfast Club she revealed that she’s ok with not being on the scene. Sharing that she connects with Kanye West because like him, she has big ideas. While she’s working on a new book and promoting her 2016 album,  Drive, Amerie is ok with not being on the red carpet.

I know I disappeared and people are like, ‘What happened?’ It’s because, I don’t really chase after fame. I don’t really love red carpets. Maybe it’s because of the OCD thing. They just give me a lot of anxiety…People ask me to do reality shows, but that’s not me, Amerie shared on The Breakfast Club.

Congrats to Amerie!

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
