Although Dre has been credited for helping launch the careers of fellow rappers, Snoop Dogg and Eminem, he’s also had strong allegations thrown at him for past bad behavior. Most hip hop heads will remember his physical altercation with Pump It Up host, Dee Barnes, back in the 1990’s. Dre has since gone on record to apologize to Barnes for their intense interaction, though she reportedly still bears the scars from that incident to this day. In that same vein, Dre’s former longtime love, singer Michel’le, has made claims against Dre that allege he was physically and verbally abusive during their relationship. In a 2016 interview with Wendy Williams (at the 1:35 mark) after the debut of her Lifetime movie Surviving Compton she said:

“I stayed because it was normal. Well after the first hit you don’t think they’re gonna do it again. And, it does escalate, but I stayed because it became normal. I didn’t call the police because I didn’t want him to go to jail because all the men where I came from always go to jail and be gone years. So I didn’t think that was a good idea. It just was normal. I just took it as a way of him showing me he loved me.”

We all live and we learn…hopefully Dr. Dre has now learned from his past as well.
