Dru Hill Announces New Group, But Got Clowned For Big Mistake On Photo Announcement

Posted On : August 13, 2018

In today’s music game, most people would probably say good R&B just doesn’t exist anymore. To go a step further, most fans would probably say old school R&B is completely dead with no hope of being saved. But Dru Hill has an announcement that might be a breath of fresh air for many fans.

The New Mega Group:

Now we all know Dru Hill has been a little quiet over the past year. The guys linked up last year for a reunion tour but after that, it seemed like they’d be goin’ their separate ways again. However, that isn’t exactly the case. Apparently, the guys have been makin’ moves behind the scenes. Last week, the group shared an interesting photo of five guys. At first glance, the photo looks like a typical Dru Hill photo because there have been times when the group has consisted of four and five guys. But if you look a bit closer, there’s somethin’ different about the photo. The guys on the outside of the photo are actually members of the 90s group Playa. With the photo, the guys included a caption that read, “History in the making…#DruHillTheSecondComing.”

Dragged For Photoshop Blunder:

While many fans were thrilled about the announcement there was somethin’ a bit odd about the photo. Apparently, the image was poorly photoshopped and it was obvious two different photos had been combined. After the photo was shared on Instagram, fans took to Twitter to share their reactions.

How It’s Goin’ Down:

During a recent interview with VIBE magazine, the guys opened up about their decision to come together. They also expressed excitement over the decision to join forces. “While Jazz is working on solo endeavors, it only made sense to come together with our brothers. Not many people know this, but we met way back in 1998 when we all played the Ladies Night Out tour and Playa was a trio. We’ve been family ever since. When we stepped on that stage with Dru Hill for the first time this year, it was instant magic. We knew right away that this was where we all belonged.”

Bringin’ Back R&B:

Smoke also chimed in to give fans the rundown on what they can expect with the new mega group. Not only are they bringin’ soul back they’re also bringin’ another reach array of sounds to the forefront. “We are bringing our churchy, soulful vocals— which is the foundation of Playa’s legacy— and adding them to the legacy of Dru Hill,” Smoke tells VIBE. “I feel like we bring a whole other concept of harmonies and melodies to the table. And not only that, we’re writers, producers, and arrangers. The vocals that Aaliyah came within the 90s, the overall feel of Drake’s Take Care album, we were a big part of making that happen and we’re only going to keep innovating with Dru Hill on this next project. For me, The Second Coming is definitely the resurrection of real R&B. Fans should get ready because as of this fall, R&B is no longer dead.”

The guys’ first performances over the summer. In fact, they even hit the stage together at the AFRAM Festival in Baltimore, MD on Sunday, August 12. Based on the performance, it looks like the guys have made a great decision joining forces.

Congrats to Dru Hill and Playa!

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
