After Years Of Beef, Martin Lawrence & Carl Payne Surprise Fans With Their Latest Move

Posted On : February 14, 2018

It’s been a long time coming -21 years to be exact- that many have awaited the day that Martin Lawrence and Carl Payne (“Cole”) would lay their feud to rest. Apparently today is that day. You see, as we previously reported, Martin and Carl had some serious issues with each other that date as far back as the 1990’s, when they were filming the hit sitcom, Martin.

Their Past Conflict & Drama

In a 2015 interview with ThisIs50, Carl broke down exactly what his beef with Martin was all about.

Carl Payne: “You know it’s no secret, we had a lotta tense days on the set…we had a LOT of tense days on the set. I live by a certain code of ethics, I from Harlem, you know how we do.

Yeah we had issues, he [Martin Lawrence] had issues with himself really. I think he was battling his own demons, you know what I’m saying? I wish him nothing but the best, hopefully he’s better now, in a better place. I don’t think he was in a good place at that time and that’s pretty much it. It was a great place to work for a long time and then it became a not so great place to work. I keep it professional as long as I can, until you step over that line. You cross the line and you come at me in a way that I can’t sleep at night, or [if] I feel like you’re threatening me, then it’s a different story…period.

We were all like family…and sometimes families fight…families get down you know what I mean and I enjoyed myself to the fullest when we were doing it [filming the show], all of it.”

Martin & Carl Payne FINALLY Squash Their Beef

Fast forward to now, and it seems these two brothas have let bygones be bygones. In a rare move for both of them, Martin shared a photo of him and Carl, on Instagram, in what appears to be a display of solidarity:

Hangin out with my man Cole @thecarlpayne

With all of the talk about a Martin sitcom reboot on Netflix, fans quickly assumed Carl’s and Martin’s renewed friendship could only mean one thing- that Carl will also be returning for the reboot as well. Although that has yet to be confirmed, in a recent interview with TMZ, Martin, Tisha Campbell (“Gina”) and Tichina Arnold (“Pam”) damn near gave away what is apparently supposed to be a surprise about the reported reboot.

The entire Martin cast had us crackin’ up from 1992 to 1997, so a reboot would be epic right about now. Hopefully Martin and crew will be able to bring that to fruition…and hopefully the cast still has that same on-screen chemistry they had back in the day. R.I.P. Tommy Ford.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
