They tried it and failed miserably! As news reports surfaced that Queen Aretha Franklin passed away, Fox News decided to share the news with their viewers by posting a background graphic of another great American songstress who is very much alive.

Fox News Shares The Death Of Aretha Franklin With The Wrong Photo:

Someone needs to be fired. It seems like Fox News can never get it right. On Thursday morning, we learned that the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin passed away in her Detroit home. At first, it seemed as if Fox News was celebrating the amazing life of Aretha Franklin as they created a video tribute of the iconic singer. However, things went way left when the video featured a a photo of Aretha Franklin along with an image of Patti LaBelle singing in the background.

Do we really all look alike? It’s hard to understand how Fox News could confuse Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle. The video seemed to be created with such sincerity as it highlighted pivotal moments in Franklin’s career. Fox News shared the lengthy video featuring Franklin’s life and performances. Just as soon as you start to think that maybe there’s a chance for Fox News, around the 3:30 mark of the video, there’s an image of Franklin with the text “1942 ― 2018″ with Patti singing ” Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. Once Fox News was made aware of their blunder, they issued an apology.

We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin’s family and friends,” the network said in a statement. “Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret.

While Fox News Issued An Apology, It Didn’t Stop The Internet From Noticing Their Mistake:

Patti LaBelle Paid Her Respects To The Late Aretha Franklin:

Choosing not to comment on Fox News’ mistake, Patti LaBelle took to Twitter to send her condolences and express her sadness over Aretha Franklin’s passing. Taking the high road, Patti and Aretha didn’t have the best relationship. However, Ms. Patti kept it classy and referred to the Queen as her “sister in song”.

While both ladies denied their alleged beef, there were often rumors that the two divas were at odds. I think we all remember that snub. Back in 2014, Aretha Franklin appeared to snub LaBelle at the Women of Soul concert at the White House by refusing to shake LaBelle’s hand when she offered it. However, when Patti was asked about the incident on Watch What Happens Live, she denied that it was her stating that the lady in the green jacket was unknown.

I don’t know who the lady was, LaBelle told Andy Cohen. I just know she had on a green coat.

Always maintaining that they were good, it appeared as if their beef resurfaced after Aretha Franklin announced in 2016 that she was launching her own food line following the success of LaBelle’s sold-out sweet potato pies at Walmart.

Ms. Patti’s gonna have to move that pie to the side!, Aretha Franklin stated.

Despite their alleged rivalry, Patti Labelle claimed that she had no beef with any industry ladies and she cleared up any rumors of animosity with her endearing post to the Queen.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
