Hughley Gets Brutally Honest About His Marriage, Talks Accountability For Wife Suffering

D.L. and LaDonna are still going strong; a commendable feat given the famed comedian’s career. We’ve all heard about the pitfalls couples face when one or both are famous or live life in the public eye. Since so many marriages succumb to the dark side of fame, it’s always awesome to see the few couples that survive. D.L. and LaDonna are one of those beautiful couples. However, the King of Comedy star recently admitted he and his wife have also had their challenges over the years.

Making It Last:

If you’ve ever had the opportunity to catch an episode of Black Love, it’s probably captured your attention for a number of reasons. Not only is it great to see black love, but it’s also enlightening to hear about the many challenges some couples have faced over the years. You gotta know you don’t get to thirty years of marriage without a few obstacles along the way. During the upcoming episode of Black Love, D.L. opened up about marriage and relationships. He even revealed some of the problems he and his wife faced were due to his actions. D.L.

Raw Honesty:

D.L. recalled how he was raised explaining the level of accountability he knew he was supposed to assume as the man of the house. However, he admitted that for a while, he’d fallen short when it came to getting the job done.

“The way I grew up was, you had to take care of your family, you had beat the sun home and you had to make sure no bullsh*t came to your house. And I was only successful with one of those.” He continued, “When people talk to me about being married, I know that I love her and I know that I’m in love with her and I know that I’ve done things that aren’t worthy of that. And I don’t pretend as if they didn’t happen.”

Being brutally honest, D.L. also admitted the ways he’d mistreated his wife over the years. While he wasn’t physically abusive, he did admit that abuse isn’t always the result of physical violence. There are other ways to abuse and hurt the ones you love.

“I’ve cheated, I’ve been hard to deal with. I’ve said mean things, I’ve done mean things. I’ve never been physically abusive but I would say I’ve been emotionally and spiritually abusive, yes.”

For those who haven’t tuned in, this is actually the second season of OWN’s Black Love. The show has featured quite a few celebrity couples who have opted to open up and give fans a glimpse of their lives behind closed doors. According to Essence, this season will feature “Emmy award-winning star of This Is Us, Sterling K. Brown, and his wife, actress Ryan Michelle Bathe, She’s Gotta Have It star DeWanda Wise and her hubby, fellow actor Alano Miller, Niecy Nash and husband Jay Tucker, Tina Knowles-Lawson and Richard Lawson, Grant Hill and Tamia, Kirk Franklin and wife Tammy,  RUN DMC’s Rev Run and wife Justine Simmons, former NFL-running back Eddie George and wife Taj of SWV, hip-hop artist Styles P and wife Adjua, and NFL Linebacker Bart Scott and wife Starr.” So, the season is definitely one you won’t wanna miss.
