Janet Jackson And Regina King Lead Emotional Celebrity Tributes To Boyz n The Hood Director John Singleton

Tributes have been flooding in for legendary writer/director John Singleton.

The Academy Award nominee sadly died on Monday afternoon after his family switched of his life support machine. The 51-year-old died less than two weeks after he suffered a major stroke and was placed in a medically-induced coma.

Dozens of Hollywood stars have been paying remembering Singleton as a true pioneer of cinema. 

“Rest In Power, my friend. One of the greatest to ever do it,” said Academy award winning actress and director Regina King.

“Thank you GOD for blessing us with this gift better known as John Singleton. Having trouble finding enough words to share just what you mean to me. Will always love you John! Your spirit will forever shine bright.”

Ava DuVernay And Jamie Foxx Also Paid Tribute

Musician and actor Jamie Foxx remembered Singleton as someone who “impacted the world.”

“God blessings… you changed a culture with your art…and impacted the world with your vision… my prayers are still up.” Foxx said. 

Academy Award-nominated director Ava DuVernay took to Twitter to share how Singleton films helped “form her.”

“Lifting my highest thoughts + prayers of intercession for John Singleton. His films helped form me. His kindness lifted me up,” DuVernay’s post began. 

“I remember him coming to the premiere of my indie years ago. Showing love/support for a fellow black director from LA. He is a lovely man. Pray with me.”

Janet Jackson, who starred in Singleton’s film Poetic Justice, thanked the director for her first Oscar nomination. Jackson was nominated for her song “Again” from the movie.

“You gave me my first movie role, my first Oscar nomination and so much more. Thank you for all you have given to the world through your work and all you have done for Black culture, women and young filmmakers. I will miss you John. Keeping your family in my prayers,” the singer wrote.
