The greatest icons are those who reach back and help others who come after them. That is exactly what Janet Jackson has done with her latest video as she celebrated her big brother, Michael Jackson’s, 60th birthday with a touch of comedy as well. She teamed up with popular Instagram stars, Kwaylon Rogers a.k.a. @BlameItOnKway and King Bach, to shoot a 1-minute, 11-second video clip that MJ would have crackin’ up if he were still with us.

Janet graciously allowed Kway and an up and coming director, named Diamond Batiste (@diamondbfilms), direct the video. That was incredibly generous of her because after all, she’s Janet- as in the music icon, as in MJ’s lil’ sister, as in “Penny” from “Good Times”…as in, well…y’all get the point and I’m pretty sure Bach, Kway and Diamond got it too.

Even though Janet’s generosity to those brothas is evident, they did have something to bring to the table- their millions of young social media followers. You see, Diamond only has 42K followers on Instagram, but Kway and King Bach, however, ain’t no small change dudes when it comes to that. Kway has 3 million and Bach has 16.1 million IG followers. So in essence, they are helping bridge the generational gap for Janet.

In the video clip that Janet shared with her Instagram followers, she recreated the scene from Michael’s “Remember the Time” video. Janet played the queen who sat on her throne and judged the talent presented before her- the original queen was played by supermodel, Iman. Kway and King Bach played the talent that Janet was giving the ‘yay’ of ‘nay’ to. It was hilarious because Kway brought his popular hood-licious Instagram character to the video, while King Bach was the comical cat who tried to talk his way outta getting the boot from Janet. Janet Making Major Moves With 41st ‘Hot 100’ Hit

At 52, Janet is still out here showing these youngins how it’s done. Janet is also bridging another gap, by connecting with her Latino fans with the help of Daddy Yankee. On Tuesday, Aug. 28th, Billboard reported this:

Janet Jackson scores her 41st entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Sept. 1) as her collaboration with Daddy Yankee, “Made For Now,” debuts at No. 88.

“Made For Now” arrives with 3.7 million U.S. streams and 20,000 downloads sold in its first full tracking week (ending Aug. 23), according to Nielsen Music, prompting a No. 8 entry on the Digital Song Sales chart. It also debuts at No. 9 on Hot R&B Songs and No. 36 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Notably, the track is Jackson’s 50th entry on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, which launched in 1958.

But it doesn’t stop there for Janet “Ms. Jackson-if-you’re-nasty” Jackson, there’s more…

Janet Receives Big Honor At Black Girls Rock

On Sunday (Aug. 26, 2018), Janet showed up and showed OUT at the “Black Girls Rock! Awards.” For starters, she proved that can’t NOBODY rock a vertical “Pippy-Longstocking” plait like her. Typically, just having a single plait shooting out the top of one’s head may seem rather odd, but Janet made her 1-braid hairdo look fly as hell!

“The Pleasure Principle” icon and her plait stepped on stage at the event to accept the ‘Rock Star Award,’ which was presented by one of her biggest fans/singer, Ciara. According to Vanity Fair Magazine, Janet’s award “celebrates fierce, fearless ‘sheroes’ in music who have successfully pushed the envelope and carved a niche where other artists not only take note, but dutifully follow her lead.”

Go ‘head Janet! HAPPY 60th BIRTHDAY to the beloved Michael Jackson!

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
