Who killed Soul R&B groups? The Artists or the Record Labels?

Boys II MenAnother reason I think we’re not seeing groups is because music is different now. Today’s idea of popular soul R&B music is more similar to techno influenced music. The artists’ vocals and music are highly infused with a techno/ electric sound, overly enhanced vocals and hip hop rhythms. This is the new make-up of soul music.

All in all I think this is really unfortunate for the state of the music industry from an artistic standpoint. Artistically, groups offer variety and a blended harmony that is not replaceable by solo artists. I don’t care how many vocal tracks solo artists can they stack on top of one another, it’s just not the same as having a group harmonizing together, in my humble opinion. Soul groups offered a different dimension in the live performance when it came to dance moves and being in sync with each other on stage. Overall groups added to the dynamic of soul R&B music and without that, there is definitely a void in the music industry. I know one thing though, whomever is the first to successfully bring back the soul R&B groups, will probably have a long lasting career because they will be responsible for breathing a certain amount of life back into the music industry.

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
