A Chicago Attorney Is Calling For Foxx’s Resignation

A Chicago attorney, who worked in Cook County State Attorney Kimberly Foxx’s office, claims Smollett should be re-charged with staging an attack on himself. Saani Mohammed filed a petition asking for the investigation into Foxx’s actions over the decision to drop 16 felony charges against the Empire actor.

According to court documents, Mohammed wrote that a prosecutor should investigate if Foxx “acted to impede the investigation… concealed evidence, and/or intentionally misled the public.”

According to the Chicago Tribune, Mohammed accuses Foxx of improperly “using her position to intervene in the investigation,” after meeting with one of Smollett’s relatives before the charges were dropped. This is something that Foxx has admitted to and therefore recused herself from the case.

The Chicago Police Union Want Her Fired

Meanwhile, the Chicago police union chiefs have demanded the resignation of Foxx over the handling of the case. Police chiefs associations announced they passed a “no confidence” vote against Foxx during a joint news conference yesterday afternoon. 

Kevin Graham, president of the Fraternal Order of Police, said the vote was about more than just the Smollett case, NBC News reports. But a defiant Foxx said in her press conference that she will complete her term that ends next year and plans to run for re-election.
