Nipsey Hussle’s Sister Files for Guardianship Over Late Rappers Daughter, What Does Her Mother Say

Posted On : May 1, 2019

After the untimely death of beloved rapper, Nipsey Hussle his sister Samantha Smith has stepped up to be the caretaker of his daughter.

According to documents obtained by The Blast, Samantha has filed a petition to become the guardian of Nipsey’s 10-year-old daughter, Emani Asghedom.

Nipsey cared for Emani before his death March 31 after being gunned down at his L.A. clothing store.

Smith says she has “always been a presence in Emani’s life and along with the rest of Emani’s paternal family has assisted in her care.”

She wants to put a guardianship in place to ensure that she can make legal custody decisions regarding Emani and “to ensure that she can continue to live with family members with whom she has always had close ties.”

Nipsey’s Sister.

Emani’s mother goes by Tanisha Asghedom, she was the ex-girlfriend of Nipsey and went by his legal last name even though they were never married.  It’s unclear why Tanisha has not tried to declare custody, or if she is aware that Nipsey’s sister is making a move for the young girl.

According to the guardianship filing, Emani’s current address was omitted due to the “ongoing criminal investigation of father’s homicide.”

Nipsey’s father, Dawit Asghedom, also signed off on the documents, giving his blessing for Smith to be the guardian.

The Reason

As far as Tanisha being out of the picture, our sources say, “Nipsey’s sister has been in his daughter’s life for years, helping raise her.” Also, we’re told it is believed by his family that her biological mother is unable to provide “a stable environment” for the girl.

On April 2, Samantha posted in her Instagram account a tribute to Nipsey, and in it, she says, “I got Emani.”

The judge has yet to rule on the guardianship petition.

It’s apparent that Samantha meant what she said about having Emani. It’s a great way to ensure that her niece will maintain in a familiar living situation.
