You can’t be serious!

A New York reporter tweeted a video of Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife visiting a Black South Carolina church Sunday morning.

During service the church was singing and playing R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” song. So many layers to this. Why was the song being played in the first place? Also it was done during the praise and worship part of service. If you haven’t been to church in a while or don’t know what this is, this is the part of the church service that is designated to praise God. Did the church get the memo about the news surrounding the developments of R. Kelly.

Visiting For Political Gain?

Has the pastor been keeping up with the news? Well, this Mayor of New York who happens to be throwing in his hat with hopes of running for President of The United States should know better. He was said to have been there for political reasons. The community where the Church resides is known for giving strong Democratic support to candidates running for office. But, there is this whole R. Kelly thing going on right now and this appeared to be an awkward moment for De Blasio. Also many women, for the right reasons, sat as the song was played.

Caught On Video

A spokesperson for the Mayor stated in an email that, “The Mayor wasn’t the church’s DJ and he certainly can’t be expected to recognize every R. Kelly track.”

“Mayor de Blasio got himself into a real Space Jam on Sunday when he was caught on video flapping his arms to a version of R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” while visiting a church in South Carolina”. New York Post

The New York Post said, “An 18-second video shows de Blasio standing on the left side of the chapel as a female choir member belts out the refrain of the late 1990s mega-hit by the since-disgraced R&B superstar, who is facing sexual abuse charges tied to four underage victims”.

One could also speculate that the reason the song was played is that Mayor de Blasio was given the “Nickname Big Bird” because of his height. The song could have been Of course the name “Big Bird” comes from the well-known kids program “Sesame Street”.

This still might have people guessing as to why he participated.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
