By now, everyone has probably heard all about Da Brat’s legal woes. The 90s rap legend found herself facing serious heat after a club fight, in which she caused serious damage to a former NFL cheerleader. The damning incident has haunted Da Brat for many years, but now it looks like things are finally headed in the right direction – well, sort of.

Prison Cells and Ramen Noodles:

According to The Jasmine Brand, on August 30, Da Brat had a jail bash to celebrate the end of her probation. After that 2007 club fight, Da Brat faced all types of consequences for her actions, including 21 months in jail, years-long probation, and staggering fines for the damages. The rapper-turned-radio personality has been haunted by that night for more than 10 years, but now she can finally take a step forward.

While most would think a prison would be the last place Da Brat would want to see, ironically she decided on a prison-themed party to celebrate the milestone in her life. With jail cells, prison, attire, and Ramen Noodles on the menu, Da Brat celebrated with the ones she loves by revisiting her past. Among the star-studded list of guests, Da Brat partied with Jermaine Dupri, Bow Wow, and her sister, LisaRaye. Jermaine Dupri even took to Instagram with a photo from the celebration.

With the photo, he wrote, “Tonight we celebrate the end of @sosobrat 7 year probation, it’s been long and tuff, but it’s over!! She is no longer on paper.”

Da Brat and a few other party goers also shared photos from party. Check out a few of those, as well:

Although the latest event was a celebration for Da Brat’s freedom, unfortunately, it still doesn’t look like she’s totally out of the woods.

Bankruptcy and Possible Jail Time:

The latest news about Da Brat’s jail party follows a string of reports about her dire financial situation, due to the massive debt she’s still plagued with as a result of the same club fight. For those who don’t know, Da Brat has been ordered to pay the victim, Shayla Stevens, a whopping $6.4 million dollars in damages for the 2007 incident. In addition to the money owed to Stevens, Da Brat also owes Sony Music $1,255,128, another $12,000 to Ally Bank, $2,284 to the Georgia Department of Revenue, and an undisclosed amount to the IRS. Court documents have also revealed Da Brat has approxiamtely $2,200 in credit card debt.

According to The Blast, Da Brat’s legal team has also offered a detailed breakdown of her income and assets. It has also been reported that her monthly income is around, $9,300. She’s made approximately $75,000 so far in 2018. Last year, she reportedly ended the year with a total income of $106,000 and $92,000 in 2016.

Her assets include a 1999 Mercedes 238i ($5k), a 2014 BMW 328i ($15k), and a 2016 Jeep Wrangler ($23k). Da Brat also lists furniture and household goods worth $8,000, electronics in the amount of $3k, a treadmill and elliptical for $2k, $20k in clothing (which she notes is necessary for her job), three dogs (listed as $0), two necklaces worth $15k, and various royalty agreements with an unknown value. – The Blast

To most people, this would probably seem like a catastrophic situation, but for Da Brat, it could be a form of damage control that could ultimately help things work out in her favor. However, there is one issue to consider. Bankruptcy is usually a way to resolve debt problems, but in Da Brat’s case, it could actually lead to jail time.

The $6.4 million she was supposed to pay to Stevens was a court order. Since she filed bankruptcy, she could be held in contempt of court and sent back to jail for not paying that particular debt. But based on her jail celebration, she doesn’t seem at all bothered by all of the other drama. Best of luck to Da Brat.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
