While playing hockey with his 19 year-old son Carter, the Canadian born actor suffered a massive heart attack.  He was transported to Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center around noon today, and was pronounced dead there.

Aside from acting, Thicke loved playing hockey and played often. However, while playing with his son around 11:00 a.m., he reportedly had chest pains, became nauseous, and vomited. An ambulance crew came and picked him up around 11:30 to transport him to the hospital.

Sadly, he didn’t make it.

Most of us know Thicke as the 80’s patriarch from the hit ABC sitcom Growing Pains where he played Dr. Jason Seaver, a psychiatrist dad.

But did you also know that he was a game show host and a talented song composer? He composed the memorable theme songs for shows such as Diff’rent Strokes, The Facts of Life and Wheel of Fortune.

Maybe he passed his songwriting abilities to his son, R&B crooner Robin Thicke. Alan was married to his wife, Tanya, and he had 3 sons: Robin, Brennan, and Carter.

Most recently, he was on the Netflix reboot, “Fuller House” … and also had a cameo on the first episode of “This Is Us.”

Not only did Thicke play a loving father on television, but he was a loving father in real life. Robin Thicke has often given credit to his father for his musical career calling him an inspiration.

“The good thing was that he was beloved and he had closure,” said Robin Thicke, crediting his father with being an inspiration for his own music career. “I saw him a few days ago and told him how much I loved and respected him.”
