Chicago-man-shot-live-on-FacebookWe now know the details of the Chicago man who was streaming live on Facebook, but was gunned down while filming on this past Thursday, March 31. And while this may not seem like a post fitting for I Love Old School Music, we it quite different. As pointed out by our family over at WhenRapWasReal.com, and what we’ve always believed is that music is a powerful motivator of behavior. When you change the message in the music, you change the state of mind of people. More than ever, when you see things like this, we always think about how the lack of music plays it’s part in the “Zombie” like effect that’s happening to our youth.

This young man is a victim of a bunch of issues, but we bring focus to the music and it’s role in changing behavior. More than ever we need great music…good for the soul.  Here’s what happened to 31 year old Brian Fields;

  1. The 31-year-old man was shot at least 16 times shortly before 5 p.m.

  2. His mother says he is on a ventilator in the intensive care unit at Mount Sinai Hospital after suffering bullet wounds to his jaw, back, stomach and legs.

  3. The young man was in town visiting his mother.

  4. He received a call from a friend to meet him outside a closed corner store at 56th Street and Hoyne Avenue in the gang-infested West Englewood neighborhood. He was apparently in rival gang territory.

  5. It’s reported that the young man is a convicted murderer. In 2009, he was convicted of second-degree murder.

He is pacing on the corner and chatting with his social media friends, saying, “Oh chief, they heard I was … so they had to open the store back up for the kid zo(sic). I can’t be out here without the store being open. I need somewhere to duck and hide for cover. Pipe it up. I slide so they popped the store back open for the kid.”

Next thing you know, shots ring out. He drops the phone with the camera phone aiming skyward and then you hear multiple gun shots. A man appears in the video wearing a red, white and black track jacket with a gun in his hands and the sound of gunfire continues.

There’s a moment of silence, then you hear a man saying, “C’mon Lord. C’mon. We got to take you to the hospital. Lord… what the f***?”

The victim’s mother is heard in the background screaming, “Oh my God, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. … Oh my God, I don’t believe this. I don’t believe this.”

He was one of 10 people shot on the same day, there were two deaths.
