What a lot of people didn’t know was that she and Lisa Bonet (Deniece on The Cosby Show and It’s A Different World) were and are best friends and Cree is also the Godmother of Lisa’s and Lenny Kravitz’s daughter, Zoe (pronounced Zo-ey)

Cree recalled one day when she and Lisa were in the middle of taping A Different World:
[quote_box_center]“She [Lisa] called me one night and said, ‘We gotta be pirates… Women who are able to take back what’s ours spiritually, to search for treasure, and share the booty.” She continued to say that Lisa’s creation of the pirates made her see that part of being an extraordinary, talented, beautiful woman comes from surrounding yourself with other extraordinary, talented, beautiful women. Cree also said “I always say to people, I’d much rather walk into a room with Lisa than by myself. She helps me get my strut on (laughs), you know what I mean? It makes me feel more powerful.”[/quote_box_center]

45 years ago, Cree Summer grew up on the Red Pheasant Reserve in Saskatchewan, Canada. She is the daughter of Don Francks, a musician, and Lili Red Eagle, who was a member of the Plains Cree First Nations.

Like we always say, it’s always a beautiful thing to see these entertainers still gettin’ it! Just because we don’t see them on TV, doesn’t mean they aren’t doing just as good, if not better, than they were back in the day. That’s one thing we at ILOSM have learned since we’ve been keeping up with some of our favorite Old School entertainers.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
