Now I don’t know about y’all, but when I watched the 2014 Soul Train Awards, I thought it was a lil’ strange that he wasn’t included. It’s kind of hard to think of Kool & The Gang without also thinking of JT singing lead on some of their biggest hits. Being that JT was a part of the group from 1978 to 1988, and then again briefly in ’96, they definitely have history together. So clearly there’s more to this story and we will most def’ do a little bit more exploring on this one, then do a follow up for you if we can confirm any further info.

We know groups rarely last for as long as Kool and the Gang has lasted without members falling off left and right- that’s just the nature of the business, but this is one group I wish would have stayed together longer (with some of their previous members) because their chemistry was impeccable in my humble opinion. It sure would be good to see JT and Kool and the Gang reunite one last time though. Check out this video from a few years back, of a reunited Kool & The Gang (including JT) performing with Deborah Cox.

Below is a song JT, his wife, Starleana (who is a singer and former member of the 80’s group, Aurra) and their son Xavier recorded a few years ago and it ain’t bad at all.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
