1997: Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thomas in “Good Burger”

Remember actor/comedian, Kel Mitchell? He played the goofy character, “Ed,” who rocked micro-braids in the 1997 comedy movie, Good Burger. One of his classic lines was “Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger! Can I take your order?” He’s also widely known for his six year run (1996- 2000) on the Kenan & Kel comedy series, which also starred his Good Burger acting partner, Kenan Thomas (of Saturday Night Live).

On Tuesday (7-7-2017) the Good Burger cast celebrated their 20th anniversary and at 38 years old, Kel also has an even bigger blessing to celebrate. He and his lovely wife, Asia Lee, just welcomed their first child together- daughter, Wisdom- who weighed 7 lbs., 11 oz. at birth “with a head full of hair and full of happiness” as Kel stated. Kel also has two other daughters, Lyric and Allure, from his previous marriage.

Kel’s Advice To Married Men

Mitchell may be a comedian, but when it comes to showering his queen with the respect and love she deserves, he is a very serious cat. Kel is also committed to his christian beliefs, so he took a minute to share how he incorporates his religion into his marriage and offered a few words of advice to other married men who follow the same faith:

Years Long Tension w/Former Co-Star Finally Squashed

Although we watched Kenan & Kel do their thing together on screen for years, they apparently had some tension in their friendship after the Kenan & Kel show ended. Some say it may have stemmed from the fact that both men auditioned for a role on Saturday Night Live a while back, but only one of them got it- Kenan Thomas. The only grey area was that both of them gave different accounts of the what really happened between them. Here’s what HuffPost reported:

Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thomas now

One day a few years back, Kenan Thompson got a call at his home in New York City. […] “I was in my backyard,” [Keenan] Thompson told HuffPost earlier this year. “I haven’t talked to this dude in years. I wondered ― ’cause I heard the same rumors of beef and all that, so I didn’t really know, since I hadn’t spoken with him ― if there was really a problem or not.”

In 2012, [Kel Mitchell] told TMZ, “The truth is Kenan does not want to be seen with me in any form of media, or even have my name mentioned around him.” In 2014, he said the two had had “no contact” since Mitchell showed up to Thompson’s birthday party unannounced more than five years before. In 2015, he said, “We haven’t seen each other in a long time.”

Thankfully Kenan and Kel squashed their beef in recent years and they even did a Good Burger skit together in Sept. 2015 on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Check it out below:

What Kel Is Doing Now

These days you can catch Kel Mitchell on the Nickelodean sitcom, Game Shakers. He’s been starring on the show since 2015 and plays “Double G,” a rap artist and business partner of the ‘Game Shaker Company.’ Kel also does stand-up comedy on the regular.

Congratulations again to Kel Mitchell and his wife, Asia on the birth of their baby girl.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
