Richard Pryor

The iconic Richard Pryor, as we all know, lived quite the dramatic life – ALL his life- from childhood to adulthood. The circumstances he revealed about how his Fathera died at the age of 57, is just as dramatic and equally bizarre.

PRYOR’S FATHER DIED IN A VERY RARE  WAY

Richard Pryor often discussed what it was like being raised in the brothel that his Grandmother owned and his mother worked in as a prostitute. Then there was his father, LeRoy Pryor, who was his Momma’s pimp and employed several other prostitutes at that same brothel young Richard Pryor called home. Well needless to say, Richard Pryor’s Father died in just as shocking of a manner in which he lived. Pryor once revealed how his Pops died at the age of 57:

“I’d like to die like my father died,” he says. “My father died f**king…he DID! My father was 57 when he died. The woman was 18. My father came and went at the same time. […] I just figured God must’ve loved my Father an awful lot to let him go out like THAT.” – Richard Pryor

Pryor then did what Pryor was great at…cracked more jokes about the situation, in spite of it being painful loss for him:

And the… and the woman that he was making love too, right, couldn’t give away no pu$$y for two years, cause people were going, un-un, no, no, mmm, uh, no baby, uh, no. You done killed one motherf**ka with it, that’s all right. No, that’s some pu$$y you can keep right there, mmm. And I saw the lady recently, and she’s still a little fucked up about it, you know. She came and said, I’m sorry I killed your father. I said, miss, what are you talking about. I said, sh*t, people get killed in plane wrecks and run over by buses and sh*t. He died in your pu$$y. That’s called recycling.

Yep you read that right, Pryor’s dad sadly passed away in the middle of sexual intercourse and Pryor actually turned his pain into laughter when he incorporated his Father’s death into his timeless stand-up concert in 1992, “Live In Concert.” Like we said earlier, the late great Richard Pryor lived quite a dramatic life and from the looks of it, his beloved parents did the same. May they all continue to rest peacefully.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
