Sadako Pointer is the 30 year old granddaughter of Ruth Pointer (of the Pointer Sisters)! The Pointer Sisters are looking good aren’t they?!! Sadako is now an official member of the Pointer Sisters and they sell out shows regularly. They’re are heavily supported by the gay community and in fact, Sadako and Lance Bass of N’Sync (who revealed that he was gay a while back) were at a recent performance at a gay event, Gay Games 2014, which is where they were in the photo below.

The Pointer Sisters, just like many others- the late great Donna Summers, Patti Labelle, The Village People, etc. – have a large gay following and one thing about the gay community is that they are extremely loyal to the artists they support. Most artists who have a huge gay following know how to concentrate on just selling to their core audience- the gay audience, and a lot of those artists are sustaining a successful career, while many other artists are still chasing behind a hit record and trying to compete with the politics of the mainstream music industry that continues to tell them they are “too old to sell records and fill concert seats”- of course that’s a lie and it’s unfortunately an almost impossible stereotype to beat in today’s mainstream music industry.

So what’s the moral of this story? Never bite the hand that feeds you, just like our Mommas always told us. The Pointer Sisters (Ruth and Anita) are pushing 70 and after all these years in the industry, they’re still able to support themselves, their families, live their dreams, and pave the way for those who are coming up behind them, by making sure that they never neglect their their loyal fans and continue to give them what they want – good quality music from one of the best Old School female groups to have ever done it.
