‘And I’m Not Bragging’…

According to Sugar Ray Leonard, it’s not that he’s trying to brag or anything. He says his fighting mindset would always tell him he’s better than anyone else. “That’s what made me who I became,” the former boxer mentions.

As host Shannon Sharpe mentions, “Mayweather is a counter-puncher.” So, then Ray Leonard was asked how he’d approach Floyd, given his particular adaptive technique. The former boxer responds as follows.

“There’s no one way to fight Floyd Mayweather. He’s that good; he’s that talented. You walk in there with a ‘plan,’ but to execute it takes time. In other words, you have to feel him out and see what he goes for.”

Leonard suggests “body shots,” but immediately says that no one can penetrate his defense and is one of the best in the sport. Sugar Ray even went on to mention that he felt “awkward” even talking about it, because it’s purely “hypothetical.”

I don’t see a weakness that anyone could penetrate,” Leonard mentions. “I don’t see him being beaten by anyone. You know what I love about Floyd? He believes in himself so much, and that’s a major part of being a world champion.

I’m 62, but my mind still tells me that I can beat anyone,” Sugar Ray elaborates. “And it’s always going to be that way.
