In case you haven’t heard ILOSM fam,’ New Edition legend, Ralph Tresvant, and his wife of approximately seventeen years are no-more. In fact, they’ve apparently been no-more for quite some time. And the “N.E. Heartbreak” crooner couldn’t be more happier, so it seems. He’s been in a committed relationship with the mother of four of El DeBarge’s twelve kids for a while and they still seem to be going strong.

Meet El DeBarge’s Ex…Ralph Tresvant’s Girlfriend

Introducing Monique DeBarge. She and El DeBarge were reportedly married for years and share three children – two daughters and one son – together. Though the two are no longer together, word on the Old School curb is they’ve maintained a cool friendship for the sake of their children. Cool to see them handling their responsibilities like grown folks, moving on…

Fast forward to today and it appears that he and Monique DeBarge are still going strong. Monique sometimes shares photos of her man, championing his latest projects and big up’ing him for his birthday, much like she did for Ralph’s May 16, 2021 b-day when he turned 53 years old. She shared below pic of Ralph online, captioning her post with:

One of Monique and El DeBarge’s daughters, Bobbie Monique DeBarge, commented, “Gorgeous couple,” underneath Monique’s b-day tribute to Ralph. While Ralph’s eldest daughter, Naquelle Tresvant, liked the post and commented, “I love this Mo.”

Their Kids Love Their Union

Speaking of their kids, both the Tresvant and DeBarge beautiful offspring — there are quite a few — have been showing their parents’ lovey-dovey union their full support on social media.

Monique also posed it up with Ralph’s beautiful daughters, Naquelle and Mariah Tresvant…

The Latest On Ralph’s Estranged Wife, Amber Tresvant

At this point it’s very clear that Ralph has long ago moved on from his ex [or estranged] wife, Amber…but it’s unclear if the two of them have officially divorced on paper. Clearly, Amber’s well aware of his union with the new love of his life, because their son, Dakari Tresvant, is cool with it, as seen in the photo up top. Not sure how Amber feels about it, but for reportedly for the first time since their split, Amber has only recently displayed her left ring finger for the camera…minus her wedding ring, as seen in the photo below.

Nevertheless, Amber happily celebrated her b-day recently with family and friends in May of this year. She also oftentimes shares many self-help memes about moving on with life and such.

This 90’s singer’s name is Kia Jeffries. She was part of the 90’s group, 4Kast (best known for their 90’s song, “I Tried”) and she was also known for singing the hook on rapper, Akinyele’s underground 90’s hit, “Put It In Your Mouth.” The thing Kia unfortunately made headlines the most for though, was murdering her pro-boxer husband, Ernest Abdul-Mateen (46) when she was 37 years old.

SINGER, KIA JEFFRIES, DETAILS TRAGIC ASSAULT BLOW BY BLOW

Kia “Babydoll” Jeffries explains detail by detail, what exactly happened at 4:40a.m. in the morning when she unfortunately killed her husband, Ernest (pictured above) who was also the father of her son.

Kia did an interview on the VH1 reality show, “Gossip Game,” where she described blow by tragic blow, exactly what happened on the morning she shot and killed her husband, Ernest in self defense:

“He started just punching, punching, punching me in my face, grabbing me by my hair, just throwing me. I’m screaming for my son. My son has to come and get his father off of me and as he’s grabbing me trying to hold on to me, I notice something else that’s…’Oh there’s a gun?!!’So I kept pushing it, pushing it away, trying to still [make] him let me go. […] Then one of the times I pushed it [the gun], I felt the trigger and his hand wasn’t on it and I pulled it, hoping that it would just shoot and people would come.”

AFTER SHOOTING HUSBAND, THE SITUATION REPORTEDLY TURNED EVEN MORE VIOLENT

In a video shared on VH-1’s website, Kia said immediately after she shot Ernest, he said “B*tch you shot me!” and then he really got angry and started pistol whipping her in her head and her face. Kia thought she was about to die:

“I felt the sleep of death coming with certain blows to my head.”

COPS RULE SELF DEFENSE

When cops showed up to an Extended Stay Deluxe hotel near Duluth, GA. at 4:40a.m. in 2012, they found boxer, Ernest Mateen, critically wounded from a gun shot, but still alive and a beaten Kia Jeffries. According to Atlanta news outlet, AJC, Kia told cops her husband was beating her and they also reported that Ernest was able to confirm their altercation to cops before he died. Ernest reportedly had arrest warrants for alleged previous domestic violence charges against Kia.

HOW SHE FELT IMMEDIATELY AFTER KILLING HUSBAND

When Kia found out her husband died, she said her first thoughts were anger toward him because she didn’t understand why he had to cause such a pointless, horrific fight, which led to his death. Then she felt sad that her son had lost his father.

Kia “Babydoll” Jeffries is now rebuilding her singing career. She wanted to share her story to help others in that situation and we applaud her for being brave enough to speak on it. This is a tough situation though, because we also can’t forget that a man lost his life in the process and the person who got hurt severely was their son, whom we hope has dealt with his pain as best as he possibly can.

Before Phaedra Parks was a housewife on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, she was counsel to Bobby Brown when he was filming the reality show, Being Bobby Brown.

Blinded By Fame:

Being Bobby Brown is not easy, as the multi-talented singer has had his share of heartache and pain. Brown became famous at a young age and acquired a lot of wealth. Being wealthy, Brown had access to lots of drugs and women. Through Brown’s career, he’s had a lot of children, a lot of drama, and a lot of it was caught on tape. During a difficult time in his life when Brown faced jail time, former Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Phaedra Parks, represented him as his attorney. Just as Bobby Brown gained notoriety from his music, he began to be known for being in and out of jail as the media seemed to capture footage of him in court.

Phaedra Parks has often been criticized for not winning cases. Many people have commented about Parks as an attorney by describing her as mediocre. Brown shared how he felt about Parks in his book, Every Little Step.

Bobby shared how Phaedra seemed to be more concerned with the attention she was receiving as his lawyer, instead of defending him:

“My lawyer at the time was a black woman named Phaedra Parks, who went on to become a reality television star on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Her later television stardom didn’t surprise me because she always seemed like she was craving attention and publicity. Every time I stepped into the courtroom when she was my lawyer, there would always be a host of television cameras. It was as if she had her own traveling media contingent. I even complained to her about it, telling her I didn’t like having the press there everytime I approached the courthouse. But it didn’t seem to deter her.”

“I Usually Wound Up Going To Jail”

Bobby continued by saying:

” I won’t cast aspersions on her lawyering skills, but I will say that when she was my lawyer, I usually wound up going to jail. I haven’t had much luck with my legal representation over the years.”

Maybe Bobby B. felt like Phaedra Parks wasn’t there for him as his attorney…however, she seemed to be there for him as a friend. Phaedra has always spoken highly about Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston. In an interview with OK! magazine, Parks gave Bobby and Whitney credit for her notoriety as people often referred to her as the ” Bobby and Whitney lawyer”:

“I always loved Whitney, I’ll always credit her and Bobby for a very important part of my career and for my notoriety. Because a lot of the time when people hear Phaedra Parks, the first thing they say is Bobby and Whitney, that’s the Bobby and Whitney attorney, Parks shared.”

At the time of Whitney Houston’s death, Phaedra revealed that Whitney actually retained her as Bobby’s lawyer because she heard that Phaedra was the best attorney in Atlanta. After their first meeting at the Ritz Carlton, they talked for hours and eventually, Parks became Bobby’s lawyer. Phaedra went on to work with the couple for 7 years. While they didn’t always agree, Phaedra maintained that they loved each other:

“She said to meet her at the Ritz Carlton. I met her and we spoke for probably 3 or 4 hours and later I would meet Bobby, she hired me and 7 years later… I worked with them throughout the divorce and everything. We didn’t always see eye to eye on things but she was very good to me. Her family has been very good to me. His family has been very good to me. I consider them very good friends and I’ve seen them at their best and I’ve seen them at their worst but I just love her, I love Bobbi Kiristina.”

Every Little Step was published in June 2016 and resurfaced amid the bubbling hype surrounding Bobby’s 2018 BET biopic. With all the years that he worked with Parks, it’s safe to say that she could’ve possibly been featured in the movie…but after hearing what Bobby B. had to say about her lawyering skills, she may not have been depicted very well. So, smart move for Phaedra, I suppose.

Remember the 90’s group Hi-Five? They had us dancing to hits like, “I Like The Way (Kissing Game)” and “She’s Playing Hard To Get.” There were 5 members at one time, hence the name Hi-Five, but they’ve actually had a total of nine members in the group…we’ll get to that in a minute.

Five of the 9 members have been struck with some form of great tragedy and as of 2014, the tragedy was still striking, or shall I say, one of the members did the striking and reportedly caused the tragedy.

RUSSELL LAMONT NEAL – ARRESTED FOR THE MURDER OF HIS WIFE

Let’s start with the most recent horrific crime that was allegedly committed by one of the original members of Hi-Five, Russell Lamont Neal. In June 2014, Russell reportedly confessed to murdering his 24 year old wife, fitness model and aspiring boxer, Catherine “Brasilia” Martinez. Lamont was ‘deemed incompetent to stand trial.’

Russell was living in Houston, TX at the time of the incident. Houston police said that he walked into the Houston sheriff’s department building and stated something like ‘My wife is dead. I would like an attorney.’ He then calmly waited for the cops to question him and take him away. The cops eventually arrested him without incident.

One witness said “He wasn’t resisting arrest or fighting with them, or saying anything. When they brought him out in handcuffs, he was just as calm as can be and they just put him in a police car.”

After Russell was booked, he told police Catherine’s body was at their home at the apartment complex. Police said they had to break the door down and once inside, they found Catherine Martinez, dead on the living room floor with multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma injuries to her head. Her body was covered with a blanket and her autopsy results showed that she died from puncture wounds. He was later released on $100,000 bond as he awaited trial.

By May 2015, U.S. Marshal’s Service deputies arrested Russell Lamont Neal, in Waco, TX after a warrant was issued out of Harris County, on charges that he failed to appear for a court date in connection with the July 2014 murder of his wife Catherine. The weird thing is that authorities say earlier that day, police were called to the residence Russell was in, after someone reported that a person there was showing suicidal tendencies. The police showed up, spoke with Russell and then left because they said that the court time had not passed yet, so they had no basis for arresting him. Later that same day, Russell skipped out on court and the police went back to the home and arrested him. That wasn’t a wise move on Russell’s part.

TRESTON IRBY – SHOT 5 TIMES

In 2009, Treston Irby was shot five times outside of a New Haven, Ct. nightclub. Police said Treston appeared to be an innocent bystander.

After going through depression once the fame was over, Treston said the shooting was almost like a blessing in disguise to get him back on track. “The day I woke up out at the hospital after getting shot 5 times, that’s when I knew it was time to start working,” Treston said.

TONY THOMPSON- ACCIDENTALLY OVERDOSED

Tony Thompson was known for his high pitched lead vocals. In 2007, he was just on his way to reviving his career and had also formed his new record label and signed Hi-Five to get things poppin’ again…but that’s when tragedy struck. Sadly, Tony was found dead outside of a Waco, TX apartment complex, by two of the complex’s security guards. He was found next to the air conditioning units located behind the apartments and died from huffing a toxic amount of freon from the air conditioning units. Freon is a hydrocarbon that is widely used in air conditioners and refrigerators.

Tony’s autopsy report was released by a medical examiner at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas, TX. It stated Tony had a history of inhaling freon. It also stated that no other drugs, nor alcohol were found in his body, but that his bloodstream did contain trace amounts of methadone, a drug commonly used to combat heroin addiction.

RODERICK “POOH” CLARK IS NOW PARALYZED

In 1993, one of the original members of Hi-Five, Roderick “Pooh” Clark, was involved in a near fatal car accident, leaving him permanently paralyzed.

TORIANO EASELY – FIRST DEGREE MURDER

According to a 1990 LA Times report, ‘HI-5 singer Toriano L. Easley was arrested for first-degree murder in Oklahoma City on Sept 1. [1990]. According to Oklahoma City Police Capt. Jim Gallegly, the singer allegedly shot an acquaintance following a heated argument. Easley, who sang background vocals on the HI-5 release “I Just Can’t Handle It” reportedly [was] expelled from the group.’ Toriano was 17 at the time of the shooting and arrest and he reportedly served most of his 15 year prison sentence.

MARCUS SANDERS

Marcus is the only member who hasn’t been struck by some horrible crime or tragedy, thank goodness.

We’re not sure how all of this happened within one group, but something clearly went wrong in their lives at various stages.

Well, in a recent interview that has sparked hilarious commentary Lelee, Taj and CoKo (especially CoKo) offer their opinions on a few artists from the current roster of R&B stars.

News One reports that during an interview with Cocoa Butter on Twitter the sistahs of SWV were asked to listen to a few newer stars and give their honest opinions about how their music made them feel. Though the three of them came to agreements on certain artists the ones CoKo disagreed with made for some hilarious commentary.

Coko listened to the vocals of Teyana Taylor, Queen Naija, H.E.R., Kehlani, Jhene Aiko and The Internet. Some of her comments included: “I don’t live for her, I live for Jesus;” “I feel like I’m lost;” and “Nowadays, these girls all sound like a computer.” Also, this gem, “They were cool, I thought they all sounded like one long song.” Plus, there were tons of facial expressions.
