Andre 3K Revealed Past Relationship With Keisha Epps

Keisha was once in a committed relationship with Andre 3000 of the rap group, OutKast. They met around the time OutKast was recording their first album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. In fact, the relationship was so serious, Andre revealed he battled severe depression following the breakup and became celibate for almost an ENTIRE YEAR! Then he met his now ex-girlfriend, Erykah Badu, but admitted that he was never really over the heartbreak Keisha caused him at that time.

In a  interview with Vibe magazine, Andre (referred to as Dre in the article) shared details about the relationship. He also revealed that parts of his his multi-platinum selling album, “Love Below,” was loosely based on some things he went through with Keisha and a couple of his other exes. When asked about his heartbreaks, Andre 3000 said:

“You remember the group Total? Keisha? We used to be together back in ’93-before they were Total-Total. When she broke up with me, I was almost celibate for about a year. I was really fu*ked up over it. And that’s right before I met Erykah [Badu]”

In the interview, Andre also declared:

“I’m gonna have to be completely struck crazy for me to get married.”

Andre 3K and Keisha Moved On YEARS Ago

With time, Andre was able to move past his heartbreaks; and even though he and Erykah Badu’s relationship didn’t lead to the happy ending most fans expected, they did have a son together, and are still very close friends. The last we’d heard, Andre was alleged to have a new woman in his life – April Bombai, an Asian hip-hop journalist who’s worked behind the scenes of the hip hop industry for nearly two decades.

Andre 3000 isn’t the only person who’s moved on. Keisha is happily married to her husband of eighteen years, actor Omar Epps. They have two children together- K’mari Mae, 18, and Amir, 15. Omar also has an older daughter, Aiyanna (23), from his previous relationship.

When Erykah Badu was dating Andre 3000 and infamously sang “Call Tyrone” in her 1997 video with their growing unborn son, Seven Sirius Benjamin, in her belly, it was official- they were like the new Ashford & Simpson of hip hop and R&B. ERYKAH BADU & ANDRE 3K HAD DOUBTS ABOUT PREGNANCY

Erykah and Andre only lasted for 4 years and Andre regretfully admitted breaking Erykah’s heart, they’re the best of friends now, but here’s what happened at the time of Seven’s conception though…

In an interview with The New Yorker, Erykah and Andre 3K confirmed that although they were crazy in love in 1996/1997 and we, the fans, were thinking everything was all good for them, but they came this close to almost aborting their now 18 year old pride and joy, Seven..

They’re clearly grateful they didn’t go through with the abortion, but at the time, they considered it because Seven was conceived just weeks after Badu’s very first album, “Baduizm,” released and she hadn’t even fully developed a true fan base yet, nor solidified her career. Andre 3K’s career with Outkast and the Dungeon Family was steadily growing and they were traveling to different parts of the country nonstop. But somehow, some way, they made it work and kept their baby. Here’s what was reported:

[Badu] was reminiscing about 1997, the year of her triumphant début. “You know how you get to pick groupies out of the audience, and stuff like that?” she said. “I didn’t get to do any of that.” She had met André Benjamin at a club in New York, and their son, Seven, was conceived in the chaotic weeks after “Baduizm” was released. “Me and Erykah actually had to sit down and figure if we were going to keep this child,” [Andre 3000] Benjamin says. The couple toured through the pregnancy. “She would hit the stage, I would hit the stage, then we would go back to the hotel and I would be putting shea butter on her stomach,” he says.

Andre later rapped about their past relationship and their decision not to abort their son on one of his songs when he said “We’re young, in love—in short, we had fun / No regrets, no abortion, had a son.”

They’re both extremely close to their adult son, who looks so much like his Pops during his Outkast “Southernplayalistic” days, it’s scary…

SEVEN WAS ACCEPTED INTO FOUR COLLEGES

In April (2016), Erykah Badu and Andre 3 Stacks were smiling from ear to ear after their lil man-well, their not so lil man- got accepted into four colleges. Badu tweeted this:

That’s exactly what just happened after Erykah Badu shared a cool photo of herself and her son’s daddy/Outkast rap legend, Andre 3000, along with their 20 year old son, Seven.

The Photo That Caused Confusion

Above, is the family pic that confused the hell outta millennials recently. Erykah shared it in honor of Father’s Day, to pay homage to her ex-boyfriend. As y’all can see, it looks like Andre 3K spit their son out all by his lonesome…TWINS! But as their resemblance seems the most likely stand-out topic to discuss at first glance of their photo, for millennials it was not.

Many young folks are now expressing confusion online, because they had no clue that Erykah Badu and the Outkast rhyme spitta even knew each other, let alone dated and had a grown son. Below is a small sample of the comments that are surfacing:

Of course, no mother is a fan of any guy that brings tears to her daughter’s eyes. But, Ms. Jackson was able to accept Andre 3000’s creative apology. In fact, Erykah Badu revealed just how much her mother loved the song during the culture podcast Rap Radar.

Yep this young dude is almost a grown man. Can you believe that?!! Do you see the resemblance?

In 2012 interview, Erykah semi-hinted to the fact that her heart was never truly over Andre though. Her ex-boyfriend, Common also wrote in his book that while they were dating, the amount of photos Erykah kept around her house of Andre always made him uncomfortable.

Fast forward to today and Erykah and Andre 3000 are in a very good space. In fact, Andre said in a recent interview with Vibe magazine, that Erykah is like a sister to him now. Ain’t that something? Here’s what he said:

“We joke a lot,” André says of his relationship with the unpredictable siren [Erykah Badu]. “People just don’t know our personal life. We joke like that on the phone. She calls me her baby daddy and I call her my baby mama. It’s funny to us now because it’s such a talked-down type term. It is what it is. It’s totally a punch line.” One person that finds the pair’s relationship off-the-wall is Seven [their son].

“Our son…tells us, ‘You guys are nuts,’” André laughs. “Erykah and I are cool friends, man. We talk on the phone. She even asks my advice on relationships. She’s like a cool sister more than anything. The first thing people would think about us is, ‘Oh, they don’t get along.’ But there are always feelings when people grow apart. It’s something you have to get through. But man, we are cool.”

It looks like Erykah and Andre got that co-parenting thing down to a science, that’s a good thing.
