In case y’all haven’t heard by now, Drake released a song which included Michael Jackson’s unreleased music on it. The song is called, “Don’t Matter To Me,” on Drake’s album, “Scorpion,” which released on June 29, 2018. Everybody and their mommas were talking about it, because it samples a never before heard song from MJ, that he recorded prior to “Thriller.” Although Drake received a lotta love for the joint, not everyone in MJ’s family was happy about it.

Rebbie Jackson’s son, Austin Brown (35), most definitely wasn’t feelin’ Drake’s usage of his Uncle Mike’s song and he explained why to paparazzi, as TMZ reported. In the video, while walking down a Hollywood street with his big sister, Yashi Brown, Austin was asked if all of the Jackson family was “okay” with Drake using Michael’s unreleased (and unfinished) music for his 2018 album. Austin made it clear that while some of the Jacksons may be “okay” with that decision, he is absolutely against it. Check out what he said to TMZ below:

“I’M not okay with it. … I just feel like…I feel like if he didn’t finish it, you shouldn’t use it. … He’s a artist… [I] respect the artist, but I just don’t feel like it’s okay to use someone’s vocals and make a beat up and change them. …That’s just me.”

Although Austin ain’t happy about what Drake did to MJ’s song, he still said he thinks Drake is “talented.”

In a prior interview with US Weekly, Austin talked about his mother’s influence and how she tried hard to raise them as ‘normal’ people, instead of a ‘Jackson celeb.’ Check out some of the interview excerpts:

US Weekly: Tell me about growing up in your family. Was there pressure to go into the business or was it the opposite?

Austin Brown: No, not at all. My mother in particular is such a wonderful loving woman and always made it a point to let me know that I am no different than anybody else. I had a normal upbringing — I went to school, had my friends, I played sports, she put me in my piano lessons, I was in band. There wasn’t really any pressure. The only difference was people saw my family do their job, but I loved my upbringing.
US: Did you grow up listening to “Centipede?”

Austin Brown: (Laughs) Of course! You grow up watching your mom do what she does and lovin’ the song, and I was a proud kid.

US: What was your uncle Michael Jackson really like?

AB: My uncle was always big on teaching my cousins and me about song structure. He would like to break down songs — he would always start with the base line, and then start humming a melody. He wanted to teach me how things came together, how to portray my voice and where music came from. The main thing with my uncle was just the love he showed all of us and how caring and giving he was to other people as well. The most important lesson that he showed us was charity and giving back. All of this meant nothing if you weren’t giving anything back.

Rebbie Jackson has three children with her late, husband Nathaniel Brown- daughters Yashi and Stacee; and son, Austin. At 70 years young, the “Centipede” songstress couldn’t be more proud of her kids today.

Austin is following in the footsteps of his mother and her siblings, as a singer. His voice naturally has that higher pitched Jackson sound and he’s influenced by some of the greats in the game, like his family, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder and many more, which is beyond refreshing to hear in today’s younger generation whose musical influence seems to only start with each other. Let’s be real, many of today’s artists sound like their peers’ last radio single, as if they had no musical culture within them prior to their peers’ radio song was released…but I digress.

Rebbie’s youngest child, Austin, is her third born and his Pops is Rebbie’s late husband, Nathaniel Brown. Nathaniel sadly passed away in 2013 from pancreatic cancer and he was survived by he and Rebbie’s three children- Austin and their beautiful daughters Yashi and Stacee.

 

As Austin releases new music and continues to make a name for himself, he is doing it all on his own. Rebbie, while supportive, definitely did not want him to pursue a music career and Austin revealed that his Mom wouldn’t let him do anything in music until he was an adult-18 years old. Once he turned 18, he hit the ground running full steam ahead in pursuit of the same kind of success that his famous family has had. This young brotha is an adult now, but it seems like it wasn’t that long ago that we were watching his uncle Michael talk about him in one of his hilarious home videos. Austin (whom MJ and his close family also referred to as “Auggie”) was just a kid at the time…probably about 7 or 8 years old. Check him out at about the 2:20 mark as MJ narrates what’s going on in this clip…

Austin also does some modeling in his spare time and something else he’s done outside of music, was speak up in Bobbi Kristina’s honor to bash the media and the public’s judgement of her as she was still in hospice fighting for her life in 2015 (view Austin’s open letter about Bobbi Kris’ on the next page).

Overall, it’s always a great thing to see the children of legends make every attempt possible to step outside of their parents’ shadow and so far, Justin seems to be determined to do just that. Can’t wait too see what the future holds for this dude.
