B.B. King’s daughters have hired Trayvon Martin’s (as well as other individuals who were suspiciously killed by police) family’s attorney and they are refusing to go down without a fight. What are they now fighting for? The truth, because they still do not believe they have it.

Sitting on the outside and watching B.B. King’s family and his manager go at it for several weeks now, it’s easy for some to say that B.B.’s children should just let it go. The only problem is that for most people who are in their position, that’s extremely hard to do, when they sincerely believe in their hearts that there was possibly foul play in their Father’s death and that everything their father worked for is being stolen from him by the handler(s) of his estate.

Two of B.B. King’s daughters said Friday they have enlisted a lawyer involved in the Trayvon Martin case in Florida and the police shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, to review their suspicions that the blues icon’s longtime business manager looted his accounts and hastened his death in Las Vegas.

Attorney Benjamin Crump, appearing at a Las Vegas courthouse with another lawyer already handling a challenge to King’s designated estate executor, said he’ll take an independent look at King’s death May 14 at age 89 and the handling of his finances.

“They’re not being accusatory. They just want to find out the truth of all that happened with their father,” Crump said of King daughters Patty King and Karen Williams.

Attorney Brent Bryson, representing the B.B. King estate, and LaVerne Toney, the executor King named in his will, responded later that it didn’t matter who represents the daughters.

“The allegations against Ms. Toney are absolutely false and without merit, and we look forward to our day in court,” Bryson said. “The facts of the case are not going to change based on who they bring in to present the case.”

Unfortunately, the B.B. King family vs. manager saga continues. B.B. King was finally laid to rest in Indianola, MS on May 30. Soon after that his manager, LaVerne Toney, and her attorney filed court documents to attempt to counteract what B.B.’s children are claiming and to ultimately make sure that she maintains control over B.B.’s estate and finances. It looks like the family has a long journey ahead of them.

Just days after blues legend B.B. King was laid to rest near his birthplace in the Mississippi Delta, a battle over his estate is moving from the headlines to the courthouse in Las Vegas.

Attorneys for King’s designated executor, LaVerne Toney, have filed documents in a Nevada court to fend off allegations that King family members were kept away in his dying days, that he was mistreated medically and that his money was siphoned off before he died May 14 at his Las Vegas home at age 89.

“We’re asking the probate commissioner to approve (Toney) as executor and personal representative of the estate,” attorney Brent Bryson said Monday.

“The spurious and unjustified allegations made against Ms. Toney by Patty King, Karen Williams and Larissa Drohobyczer will be dealt with at a later time,” he added.

Among King’s 11 surviving adult children, Williams and Patty King have been most outspoken about the music icon’s care in his final days. Through their attorney, Drohobyczer, they accused Toney and B.B. King’s personal assistant, Myron Johnson, of poisoning him to hasten his death.

Toney and Johnson denied the claims, and Bryson dismissed them as ridiculous, defamatory and libelous.

But the allegation prompted an autopsy by the Clark County coroner the day after a King memorial at a Las Vegas funeral chapel. Results of toxicology tests are expected in several weeks. Police said there was no active homicide investigation.

Toney, who managed King’s road show business for 39 years and had power-of-attorney over his personal affairs, is the executor named in his will. She declined on Monday to comment. A King daughter, Riletta Mitchell, was second in line, but she died last September.

Bryson said Monday the value of King’s estate was being tallied, but wasn’t expected to amount to the tens of millions of dollars suggested during Williams’ failed court bid to wrest guardianship from Toney a month ago.

Three doctors determined that King was appropriately cared-for, and King received 24-hour care and monitoring by medical professionals “up until the time that he peacefully passed away in his sleep,” attorney Brent Bryson told the AP on Monday.

Daughters Karen Williams and Patty King allege that family members were prevented from visiting while King’s business manager, LaVerne Toney, and his personal assistant, Myron Johnson, hastened their father’s death.

Toney is named in King’s will as executor of an estate that, according to court documents filed by lawyers for some of King’s heirs, could total tens of millions of dollars.

Johnson was at B.B. King’s bedside when he died May 14 in hospice care at home in Las Vegas at age 89. No family members were present.

“I believe my father was poisoned and that he was administered foreign substances,” Patty King and Williams say in identically worded sections of affidavits provided to The Associated Press by their lawyer, Larissa Drohobyczer.

“I believe my father was murdered,” they say.

An autopsy was performed Sunday. Test results will take up to eight weeks to obtain and shouldn’t be affected by the fact that King’s body had been embalmed, Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg said.

B.B. King, whose scorching guitar licks and heartfelt vocals made him the idol of generations of musicians and fans while earning him the nickname King of the Blues, died late Thursday at home in Las Vegas. He as 89.

His attorney, Brent Bryson, told The Associated Press that King died peacefully in his sleep at 9:40 p.m. PDT. He said funeral arrangements were underway.

Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg confirmed the death.

King’s eldest surviving daughter Shirley King of the Chicago area said she was upset that she didn’t have a chance to see her father before he died.

Although he had continued to perform well into his 80s, the 15-time Grammy winner suffered from diabetes and had been in declining health during the past year. He collapsed during a concert in Chicago last October, later blaming dehydration and exhaustion. He had been in hospice care at his Las Vegas home.

For most of a career spanning nearly 70 years, Riley B. King was not only the undisputed king of the blues but a mentor to scores of guitarists, who included Eric Clapton, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayall and Keith Richards. He recorded more than 50 albums and toured the world well into his 80s, often performing 250 or more concerts a year.

King played a Gibson guitar he affectionately called Lucille with a style that included beautifully crafted single-string runs punctuated by loud chords, subtle vibratos and bent notes.

The result could bring chills to an audience, no more so than when King used it to full effect on his signature song, “The Thrill is Gone.” He would make his guitar shout and cry in anguish as he told the tale of forsaken love, then end with a guttural shouting of the final lines: “Now that it’s all over, all I can do is wish you well.”

His style was unusual. King didn’t like to sing and play at the same time, so he developed a call-and-response between him and Lucille.

“Sometimes I just think that there are more things to be said, to make the audience understand what I’m trying to do more,” King told The Associated Press in 2006. “When I’m singing, I don’t want you to just hear the melody. I want you to relive the story, because most of the songs have pretty good storytelling.”

A preacher uncle taught him to play, and he honed his technique in abject poverty in the Mississippi Delta, the birthplace of the blues.

“I’ve always tried to defend the idea that the blues doesn’t have to be sung by a person who comes from Mississippi, as I did,” he said in the 1988 book “Off the Record: An Oral History of Popular Music.”

“People all over the world have problems,” he said. “And as long as people have problems, the blues can never die.”

Oh My! B.B. King is back in the hospital, and has suffered a minor heart attack amid accusations of abuse. This is the second time in the last several days that B.B. King has been hospitalized.

King’s rep tells TMZ … he remains hospitalized at a medical center close to his Vegas home.

In 2014 he cancelled all of his performances due to medical issues.
