When we flip through the channels of R&B history, how can we not pause on the episode of Chilli and Usher, right? Cast your minds back to the early 2000s, folks – that’s when these two hitmakers wrote a love song of their own. But it wasn’t until recently that Usher revealed how Chilli stomped on his heart back in the day. Well, now Chilli has spoken out about Usher’s confessions, and she is also confirming her current relationship with a well-known actor, who happens to be white.

Usher’s Heartfelt Confession

As we previously reported, Post-Super Bowl, Usher, opened up like never before. After tying the knot with Jennifer Goicoechea during Super Bowl LVIII weekend, he got real about his past heartaches, specifically the one that got away—TLC legend, Chilli. The R&B crooner admitted that Chilli turning down his proposal back in the day left him with a heartache that played out like a mega-long sad love song, influencing his hit album, “Confessions”, in 2004. He even confirmed that the song, “Superstar,” from that album was written about Chilli. Now, that’s what I call wearing your heart on your sleeve, or should I say, on your tracklist?

Chilli’s Side of the Story

Chilli, aka Rozonda Thomas, wasn’t just Usher’s arm candy; she was the muse behind those fire hits. They were the “It” couple from 2001 to 2004, with Usher confessing that he admired her since he was just a kid, when he would watch her perform with TLC. But turns out, Chilli had some rules that even Usher couldn’t rock with, leading to their split. Despite this, they’ve managed to keep things cool, celebrating each other’s wins and occasionally reminiscing about the good ol’ days. Chilli even shared that they would often find their way back to each other between relationships, but in 2019, she decided to hit the pause button on their repeat track to focus on her personal growth.

The Actor Chilli Is Dating

Fast forward to the present, and Chilli’s heart is beating to a different drum. In an interview with TMZ, she says she’s found love again with actor, Matthew Lawrence, and is even hoping Matthew makes it official with her one day, and puts a ring on it. According to Chilli’s reported sources, “[Chilli’s] mind is a world away from all this Usher stuff. Speaking of which, our sources tell us that Chilli, generally, takes marriage very seriously … and she’s not just going to hop into a commitment like that until she’s totally convinced she and her partner are both ready for marriage.”

As for Usher, he’s not just creating cool R&B joints, but he’s also building a life with his new wifey, Jennifer Goicoechea. His personal experiences, from the highs of fame to the lows of love, have shaped his music, giving us a glimpse into the man behind the mic.

Chilli’s Men-Past And Present Are Different, But Similar

Of course everybody, including Stevie Wonder, can see that Chilli’s current choice couldn’t be more different than her past choice in men. Usher and Matthew share nothing in common physically speaking. However, when it comes to age range, Chilli apparently likes ’em a tad younger. Her current bae, Matthew just turned 44 on February 11, 2024; and Usher is 45. Chilli will be 53 years young on February 27, 2024. So, she is nearly 9 years and 8 years their senior, respectively.

In a new candid interview, Usher told it all about his past relationship with TLC’s, Chilli, and how their split had a major impact on his trust in women. The R&B crooner shared his personal journey, shedding light on the pain he endured and the valuable lessons he learned.

In his interview with People, Usher explained that his love story with Chilli began in 2001, when they started dating. The seven-year age gap didn’t deter their connection, and Usher expressed his admiration for her, stating, “If I am to be honest, I was her No. 1 fan, and she was my superstar.”

Their relationship was crazy intense. Usher even dropped a bombshell, revealing that he went as far as proposing to Chilli, hoping to spend the rest of his life with her. However, to his surprise, she crushed him when she turned down his proposal. Chilli’s rejection shattered Usher’s heart:

“I wanted to marry her. I proposed and she told me no. I went through a great deal of pain after that, not trusting women or wanting to open up.” He admits, “I hurt her too,” but the situation “broke my heart.”

Reflecting on this painful chapter of his life, Usher acknowledged the specific rules and expectations that Chilli had, which ultimately didn’t align with his own desires. He revealed:

“We were missing each other. I really did want to have a different type of relationship where she was there with me, and she couldn’t be. She didn’t believe that I was actually in love with her as much as I was.”

Chilli previously confessed that while she and Usher had an on-again-off-again-relationship for years after their official break-up, their relationship expectations of each other became too mush for her, she stated:

“It looked great, but in real life … he knew he had to be a certain way with me and he couldn’t.”

The aftermath of their breakup was tough for Usher. He confessed that he struggled to trust and open up to women after dating Chilli. The experience not only hurt Chilli, but also caused Usher to question his own worth and capabilities in relationships.

Despite the pain, Usher says he and Chilli managed to find common ground and maintain a cordial relationship over the years. While they celebrated each other’s successes, they both understood that their romantic connection was no longer pursuable. Usher said:

“We’ve since become cool with each other, celebrate each other, and it’s always light when we see each other.”

Today, Usher has found love again. As we previously reported, he recently jumped the broom with his longtime girlfriend, Jenn Goicoechea, during the Super Bowl LV!!! weekend, where he performed the Halftime Show. Though the scars of Chilli stomping on his heart, so to speak, have passed, Usher has grown from his experiences.

For quite some time,  Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas has been single, but it seems like she’s finally ready to jump back into the dating game again. If you’ve followed Chilli’s love life, then you’ve seen her search for love played out on reality TV. With no luck from her reality dating show, Chilli’s just been doing her own thing, for a while- give or take a relationship or two.

What Chilli Wants:

On her past VH1 show, What Chilli Wants, we learned what she’s looking for in a man and it’s clear that she wants ‘no scrubs!’ If a man wants to date Chilli, he must be good-looking, well endowed, a non-smoker, non-drinker, and healthy- Chilli’s specifications, not ours. Also, as we can see, her body is still bangin’ and she’s very health conscious, so she made it clear on the show that her future bae must like turkey bacon, because he cannot eat pork.

Letting her fans know that she’s not a “media whore”, Chilli revealed that fans won’t know every man that she’s dating. However, she recently revealed, in People magazine, that she has a crush on an actor. To get his attention, she’s ok with putting a rumor out there about them dating.

Speaking to PEOPLE, the 46-year-old revealed that she has a crush on actor Chris Pine, 36. He’s known for his work in the recent Star Trek reboot and Wonder Woman.

“I want a rumor to be out there that Chris Pine and I had a baby!” she joked to the magazine. “Let’s start that rumor: ‘Chilli and Chris Pine are expecting!’ And if anybody asked me, I would just be really quiet and be like, ‘Hey, I’m not saying anything.'”

According to Bustle magazine, The last woman Pine was linked to was actress and reality star Vail Bloom, who joined Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules. However, their 2016 relationship was short lived. For now, Pine shared that he’s focusing on work, more than his romantic life. It’s unclear if Pine meets all of Chilli’s requirements though.

In the past, Chilli was rumored to be linked to Nick Cannon, but in interviews, both of them never confirmed the rumors and instead gave answers of the contrary. At that time, Chilli stated that she was too busy to look for a partner in crime right now. Echoing her sentiments, in an interview with ‘The Breakfast Club,’ Cannon spoke openly about his then ‘friend’ Chilli, describing her as not only “his heart,” but one of the sweetest and most intelligent people he knows. Despite the love he has for Chilli, Cannon too said at that time that he wasn’t in a place to handle a woman like Chilli.

Most of us remember when Usher and Chilli were dating for 2 years. Chilli called him the love of her life. After they broke up, there were rumors speculating that Usher cheated on Chilli because of his Confessions album. In speaking with US Weekly, Chilli made a true confession about her relationship with Usher.

“So people assumed that album was about us, but it was not, she continued. And Usher and I weren’t oil and water. We broke up because I guess it was that time or whatever, she added wistfully: he was that real love for me,” confessed Chilli.

As of right now, Chilli is currently promoting the TLC’s final album and is prepping for the “I Love the ’90s – The Party Continues Tour,” which she and T-Boz are going on with the likes of Montell Jordan, Biz Markie and Naughty By Nature. Still, Chilli said she’s open to whatever, or whomever, may come in the future when it comes to love.

“I’m so on the market, Chilli said. I’m not looking, but I’m definitely open to it for sure. We all want it, if it’s right; we all would love to have a good, healthy relationship.”

All Lives Matter:

For the first time ever, TLC is getting ready to perform in the UK at London’s Koko on May 9th. Their performance will give fans a taste of what they’ve been missing before their new album is released. If you can recall,  TLC’s comeback album was announced last June which they revealed was in the works after launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise $150,000. This album will be TLC’s first studio LP without Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes, who died in a car crash in 2002.

In the UK, they sat down with a channel 4 news reporter who touched on the Black Lives Matter movement. The reporter shared that many challenges that African-Americans face with the police or racism in general, is not unique to the USA, but it plagues the people of the UK as well. The reporter asked the ladies if they attended any marches or if they went to any anti-Trump rallies. Chili responded to the reporter’s question and her answer shocked many of her fans.

Chili responded by saying the following:

I personally didn’t go on any marches or anything like that. But for me, all lives matter, you know what I mean because there is a time when different groups are targeted for you know different things, you know what I’m saying. So, I just think that, just the whole, what happened, police brutality, against these young, black boys-stuff like that, all of that kind of stuff is wrong. You know, even if it was a Caucasian teen, kid, that this was happening to or whatever, it’s just not right.

Chili did point out that she thought it was important for people in position of authority to complete a background check to see if they’re mentally stable to protect and serve the public objectively.

However, the point that many would argue with her on is her interpretation of the BlackLivesMatter movement is discombobulated. The point of the movement definitely is not about stating no one else’s lives matter, because yes, the lives of all human beings do and should matter. The problem is that in the U.S. all lives clearly do not matter. BlackLivesMatter is about raising awareness to that horrific reality and  showing that the lives of Black people- the sector of the U.S. population that has been continuously and statistically proven for centuries to be overwhelmingly targeted and disregarded by America’s law enforcement/justice system- matter just as equally as any other race. Okay? Moving on…

T-Boz On Donald Trump’s Presidency

The reporter went on to ask the ladies how they felt being African-American and a woman in the era of Donald Trump as president. T-Boz responded that she didn’t care about Donald Trump as God is her president. The Grammy Award singer went on to add that she felt sorry for the people that are affected by his presidency. She also shared that she didn’t care for Trump when she was a contestant on The Celebrity Apprentice.

Many celebrities before Chili have made the “All Lives Matter” statement and they’ve made received major backlash. Singer Jennifer Lopez deleted a tweet using the #AllLivesMatter hashtag and rapper Fetty Wap later apologized for making the statement admitting that he didn’t understand what the hashtag meant. Although we’ve still got love for Chilli, she was not exempt from that backlash and fans showed up and showed out to let her know just that:

Remember when the singers set up that Kickstarter to crowdfund their next album? Well, now that their goal was exceeded, Wendy wants to know what’s the real deal with the “gifts” they promised their donors, and Chilli didn’t like the way she came at them.

It all started when the talk show maven said that one of her producers made a $10 donation and was promised a hand-written note. While he did get something in the mail, it wasn’t what he expected, which was a personal “Thank You” from the ladies. In fact, it was just a list of their favorite songs, and wasn’t even signed.

When a fan of the group brought up the shady moment on Twitter, Chilli wasted no time expressing how she felt, saying that Wendy’s all bark but no bite:

I don’t think this is over yet, but only time will tell.
