In case you’re a lil’ tardy for the party, the other day comedian/actress, Mo’Nique, has pissed off a few of her fellow comedians recently, after she blasted several of them on Shannon Sharpe’s, “Club Shay Shay” podcast. Not all of them have responded, but one we knew good n’ hell well would is comedian/radio host, DL Hughley… and he clapped back with a vengeance at Mo’Nique and her husband with (who have since responded, but we’ll get to that in a sec’).

During her “Club Shay Shay” interview, Mo’Nique accused Hughley of allowing his co-radio show hosts to disrespect her and dismiss her complaints.

She also touched on a conflict between them stemming from confusion over a 2022 event, when Hughley refused to perform if Mo’Nique closed the stand-up special, claiming that he was listed as the headliner in the event memo. However, according to Mo’Nique, her contract stated otherwise. At the time of the 2022 event, their feud took an ugly turn with personal attacks when Mo’Nique brought up the sensitive topic of Hughley’s daughter, Ryan Shepard, a sexual assault survivor. Mo’Nique questioned why Hughley had spoken negatively about others but “won’t call out the name of the person that violated his daughter.”

As y’all can imagine, DL wasted no time in firing back. He took to Instagram to vehemently deny Mo’Nique’s claims, calling her a liar. He criticized her for constantly tearing people down and then attempting to always soften the blow with endearing terms like “Brotha,” “Sista,” or “Sweet baby,” stating that it’s far from “love,” as she claims it to be:

DL- “The reason lies and false narratives continue to go on and circulate is because they go unchecked. What you’re not gonna do is call me out my name and not get checked. Mo’Nique is a liar!”

He continued:

“She is constantly throwing the rock and hiding the hand. You don’t get to tear people down and then soften the blow by calling them ‘Brotha,’ ‘Sista,’ or ‘Sweet baby.’ That’s not love, far from it.”

DL then touched on Mo’Nique’s statements about his daughter having been sexually assaulted:

“Mo’Nique brought that sh*t up and told the world that I allowed my daughter to be raped in front of me. The lying motherf****r.”

After DL’s response to Mo’Nique, she and her husband-manager, Sidney Hicks — whom Mo’Nique refers to as “Daddy”, which DL referenced in his video– have responded with an announcement:

“D.L. Hughley, that’s your conscience talking to you, brother; I never said that. And I want to be clear about something else. Never would I try to do anything to harm any of your babies because we got babies, too. However, what I was saying to your daughter — and to the other daughters out there — I know what it’s like for your daddy to know you’ve been touched and he not protect you.”

Shortly after Charlie Murphy’s passing, D.L. Hughley paid several tributes to his comedic friend on his social media pages. As you know, Charlie passed away at 57 from a long bout with leukemia. In a few of D.L.’s online tributes, he also explained what he witnessed Charlie do for his children up until his last breathe. He recalled how Charlie was working until his last days on tours with him and other comics, and how Charlie had dedicated his entire being to his three children- two of whom sadly lost their mom in 2009:

I will say that as sad as I am, I am glad to have gotten a chance to know him. … I think he was the best story teller I’ve ever heard, he was a great friend, I did a lot of gigs with him. In a 2007 interview, Charlie also discussed his love for his kids and shared a great story about the values he and his wife were teaching the two youngest ones, at the time, about giving back. He also joked about his brother, Eddie’s financial influence on his kids:

Charlie Murphy: I’m a big softie when it comes to my kids, definitely. I enjoy the holidays and I enjoy it because to me the holidays is all about family, seeing them enjoying one another and having fun. I’ve got one daughter … and I have a son. … Then I have another son.”

“They know who the rich person is. They know who to go to for the big stuff. I’ll say no. I’ll be like, “What? Come on, man.” Oh, he’s gotten them all kinds of incredible stuff. What we do, my son whose [now nine] gets little toys way before Christmas. Like a month before Christmas, we take all his old stuff and we give it away because there’d be no room. He has to give everything, has to trade all new toys, we have to just throw it away. The ones we haven’t been playing with and then he gets new stuff. We don’t throw it away, we give it away.”

The sad part is that in 2011, Charlie revealed in an interview, how his then-5-year old daughter was grief-stricken about the death of her mother, Tisha:

“My daughter’s five years old, man. She asks for her mother every day,” he revealed to Esquire.

The unwavering love Charlie showed his children will never be forgotten, nor mistaken by them…we’re pretty sure of that. They lost their hero on April 12, 2017, but they gained the beautiful energy of a beautiful soul that will still reside in their hearts every step of the way. Comedian/radio host, D.L. Hughley, is never afraid to speak his mind….as was the case during his prior interview with Vlad TV, where he revealed a heated argument he had with Bill Cosby in 2009. Their argument was over the rape rumors at that time, and it all went down while D.L. was a radio personality at Kiss-FM radio station.

Hughley: ‘Cosby Was Being A D**k!’

Hughley said that Cosby called in for a radio interview. However, because D.L. knew Cosby wasn’t fond of him because of his raw style of comedy, he asked his two co-hosts to pretty much do the talking, while he remained quiet. That was the plan, but all hell broke lose after D.L. says Cosby immediately started talking down to his co-hosts and being rude. So that’s when D.L. stepped in and this is what he says happened next.

D.L. Hughley: For five minutes straight [Bill Cosby] was being a dick. I was like, ‘Mr. Cosby what is you’d like for us to know?’ […] He said “D.L. Hughley! You say ‘nig*a’ and I don’t like your comedy!” And he went in, and I was like, ‘With all due respect Mr. Cosby, I say ‘nig*a’, but no co-worker (of D.L.’s) has never woke up with her drawers on backwards.’ […] I said ‘Everything you are, you are because of your experiences and I appreciate that. But you’re not gonna denigrate what I’ve been through.’

The ‘Threat’

D.L. then explained that the radio station, Kiss-FM, was owned by Emmis Communications and apparently, Cosby had major weight over there. Because of Cosby’s weight at the station, D.L. then said Cosby threatened him and made sure their pre-recorded interview never aired…ever.

D.L.: Bill Cosby was [like] “That tape will never air” … and I said, ‘The f*ck it ain’t!’ And 10 minutes later, ALL the people from Image Communications came down, took the tape and made sure nobody else in the room had copies of it; and said, “If this airs, nobody in this room will ever work again.” So I know that that cat had the power to make people do sh*t like that.

Hughley also said that although his altercation with Cosby happened in 2009 — well before Cosby’s 2018 sex assault scandals — “everybody knew it” around the L.A. comedy scene.

D.L.: I grew up in L.A., did warm-up for a lot of those shows, everybody knew it. … Like, ‘Cliff Huxtable’ is innocent, but Bill Cosby fu*ked every one of them girls.

D.L. Hughley wears many hats, as we all know: he’s a comedian, actor, radio personality and a political commentator. He’s also know as a truth teller who’s loved by many and sometimes hated by some, who feel that his truth is a lil’ too much truth that they’d rather not look at. Despite his haters, Hughley’s mostly respected by millions, for being one of the few ‘mainstream’ celebs who boldly speaks his mind, regardless of if his views are highly favored or not.

He’s also known to speak his truths to the world, as it pertains to his personal life, which is exactly what he did in his prior interview on Angela Yee’s (of ‘The Breakfast Club’) ‘Lip Service’ radio show.

D.L. Tells All About Secret His Child’s Murder

Hughley painfully revealed that he had a secret child out of wedlock who was murdered toward the beginning of his marriage to his wife of nearly 34 years, LaDonna Hughley. He married LaDonna when he was just 22 years old.

Although he’d been taking care of his secret child, he bravely discussed how his younger self, at that time, didn’t really know how to handle the grief of losing his child, nor telling his wife *Scroll down for video*:

Hughley: “I had knocked this chick up, and she had the baby…and the baby got killed by her boyfriend. […] It was a horrible HORRIBLE experience. … So I had this baby I’m paying for, I’m a boy, I’m scared, I’m married, I’m just starting out my career and I get a call from my boy and he said, ‘Your son is in the hospital.’ So I go to the hospital and this boy was laying in the bed…apparently her boyfriend had shaken him and…hurt his brain.”

On How His Wife Reacted

D.L. went on to explain how he was afraid to tell his wife about his son, because he would have also had to confess that he’d not only cheated, but had a child behind her back. However, he eventually found the courage to man up to what he’d done. Mrs. Hughley’s reaction was something that deserves a round of applause for being a bigger person about the situation. Hughley: “So I knew that one day I would be man enough to one day tell my woman what had happened. So he passes, I’m SO f*^ked up…finally one day I tell my wife, you know what she said to me? ‘I wish you would’ve told me and we could’ve went through this together.'”

What Happened When D.L.’s Wife & Ex-Mistress Finally Met

In the Lip Service interview, D.L. also revealed that years later, his wife and the mother of his deceased son randomly met at the airport one day, when they both showed up to greet him upon his return. Hughley handled the situation gracefully, by introducing his wife to the woman, and his wife surprised him when she immediately said to the woman who had slept with her husband, “I’m so sorry for your loss.” D.L. confessed that made him feel “so small, because I was a coward in two ways.” You can see what else he revealed about this in his full interview below (he talks about this at the 28:19 mark)…

Moral of The Story

Moral of the story is, it takes a person of great character to be able to place their personal pain -as enormous as it may be- on the back burner, when the pain of the one who betrayed their trust is far greater than his/her own. Much respect to Mrs. Hughley for being a woman of incredible character and respect to D.L. for taking responsibility for his part and being transparent enough to share it publicly. May his beloved son forever rest in peace.

D.L. Hughley and his wife, LaDonna, have been married for more than 30 years. Despite the fame, the two have managed to stand the test of time but that doesn’t mean they haven’t faced challenges over the years. For those who don’t know, there was a time when D.L. had an affair. Then to make matters worse, not only did he have an affair, he also fathered a love child. Now, he’s opening up with more details about the affair and he’s revealed a bombshell about the situation.

‘Take This Off Me’:

During a prior interview with Vlad TV, D.L. Hughley recalled the trying time in his life when drama and marital problems were at an all-time high. During an interview, he admitted that the birth of his son was so overwhelming he really wanted out of the entire situation. He revealed he’d asked God to “‘…take this off me.’ [Then my prayer was answered in the worst possible way.] Nine months after his son was born, he was killed by the woman’s boyfriend. But despite all of that happening, LaDonna still had no clue about her husband’s affair or his love child. So how exactly did she found out about her husband’s other woman?

Well, apparently, money requests led to him telling his wife what he’d done. But despite his actions, LaDonna stepped up to the plate for her husband. “Years later, the girl – it jammed her up too like it did me. She started asking for money. She needed some money. And I told her my wife would have to take care of it. Because I couldn’t.”

His Wife Paid Her Off

While most people might find the unconventional arrangement quite awkward, D.L explained how it all worked out for them. However, there was a catch with his wife paying his mistress off. “So, she and my wife started talking and my wife started giving her money. The condition was that she could never ask me and my wife to take care of her, so my wife took it from my allowance that I’ve never gotten back.”

So, is the past behind them now? Well, surprisingly D.L. isn’t totally sure. He dropped another bombshell when he admitted that, to this day, he doesn’t know if his wife is still paying his former mistress. “So I don’t know if she’s still giving it to her or not. But I know that I don’t get that money anymore. And I can’t go, ‘Are you still?..” I can’t do that.”

Standing Strong:

Of course, nearly every man in the world would dread having to tell their wife they had an affair and an outside child. So, it’s not surprising that D.L. hid those secrets from LaDonna. But what is surprising is her response to his actions. While the news was difficult to hear, she approached the situation quite differently than most people would have. “I knew that one day I would be man enough to tell my woman what happened…Finally, one day, I tell my wife. You know what she said to me? ‘I wish you would’ve told me and we could’ve went through this together.’”

Regardless of the ups and downs, it looks like D.L. and LaDonna are going to stand the test of time. If this didn’t break their marriage, nothing will. Best of luck to D.L. and LaDonna Hughley.
