We have extremely heartbreaking news to report ILOSM family. Rap legend, DMX, has died at the age of 50. As you know, X was fighting for his life for the past week, following a drug overdose, which caused him to suffer a heart attack on Friday, April 2, 2021. At that time, DMX was rushed to the hospital after paramedics attempted to resuscitate him at his home for 30 minutes.

His loved ones were trying their hardest to hold out hope that he would pull through, as X laid in a “vegetative state” on life support ever since. Sadly, because he had no brain activity and his organs began to fail rapidly within the past few hours today, his mother, Arnett Simmons, had to make the final call to take her son off life support.

Here’s the latest on what has just transpired:

Via AP: The Grammy-nominated performer died after suffering “catastrophic cardiac arrest,” according to a statement from the hospital in White Plains, New York, where he died. He was rushed there from his home April 2.

Family Speaks Out After DMX’s Passing

Earl “DMX” Simmons’ loved ones released the following statement on Friday, following his passing:

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him,” the family said, adding that his music “inspired countless fans across the world, and his iconic legacy will live on forever.”

Loved Ones Held Prayer Vigil

A few days prior to his passing, his Mother, fiancee, Desiree Lindstrom, ex-wife, Tashera Simmons, along with another mother of X’s children, as well as hundreds of fans and loved ones held a prayer vigil outside the hospital where DMX was clinging to life a that time. It was deeply emotional, and filled with hope that X would eventually pull through.

DMX’s Final Public Appearances

DMX was recently making several public appearances and promoting his upcoming album. Ever since his 2019 drug rehab stint, in which he voluntarily checked himself into, X appeared to be doing much better. In fact, his Verzuz battle against Snoop Dogg in July 2020, showed DMX in an apparently vibrant and healthy state as seen in the below video.

UPDATE 10:30 p.m.(ET): DMX remains in ICU. On Saturday evening, his rep’ and loved ones offered several updates regarding his current condition, as he continues to fight for his life. Here’s what was reported:

Via TMZ– Official statement from DMX’s rep … “Last night Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. At this time he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer.” The rep goes on … “The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl. Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”

One of DMX’s family members also revealed that X’s children are flying in to see him at a White Plains, New York hospital. X’s relative also disclosed that ‘paramedics tried resuscitating him for 30 minutes, and during that time he was deprived of oxygen. Doctors told the family the lack of oxygen severely impacted X’s brain. One family source said, “It’s not looking good.”‘

According to TMZ, DMX is in a possible “vegetative” state:

Sources close to the rapper tell TMZ, the OD occurred at his home at around 11 PM. Our sources say the overdose triggered a heart attack.

DMX was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, New York and is in the critical care unit. We’re told he has “some brain activity.” Another source says he’s in a “vegetative state” and doctors have cautioned he may not make it.

As is widely known, DMX has openly shared his off-and-on battles with drug addiction. His most recent struggle was in October 2019, when he checked himself into a rehab facility, shortly after serving a 12-month prison sentence for tax evasion. Though he reportedly was not on drugs at that time, X felt that he might quickly delve back into his addiction, had he not gone to rehab then. At that time, here’s what DMX’s team reported:

“In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility. He apologizes for his cancelled shows and thanks his fans for their continued support.”

From Prison To Coachella, Next Stop: The Big Screen…AGAIN

Who knew when or even if DMX would make it to the big screen again. At one point in time he was doing it big in the film industry. From “Cradle to the Grave” to his iconic role as Tommy in “Belly” amongst his other roles. This is a great start to what seems to be a pretty prominent comeback since his was released from prison back in January.

The rapper is certainly on a roll, not only is he looking healthy and happy. He has had a couple of opportunities to perform a few shows. With the most recent being a pop up at Kanye West’s Sunday service at Coachella. Now the big dog is heading back to film.

He will cast in the upcoming thriller “Chronicle of a Serial Killer” as one of the lead detectives tracking the down a killer. Costars of the film include Brendan Saxton and Tara Reid.

“Casting DMX as Detective White to me is a perfect fit. As a director, I always like going against the grain a bit. Also being familiar with his work over the years I have no doubt he is going to bring a different dynamic to the role. It will be fun working with him and the rest of the cast on this one,” director Steve Stanulis.

The films rep, Zack Teperman, added, “It’s going to be awesome seeing DMX on-screen with Tara Reid. Factor in Jake Busey, Michael Madsen and Brendan Sexton… such a dynamic group of talent, this film is going to be a thriller!”

What The Future Might Bring

The movie will begin filming in June. As of now there is no official release date for the film.

DMX served time for tax evasion. His lawyer told TMZ at the time that DMX was excited to get back to his huge family. Which by the way includes his 15 children.

The offers have steadily been rolling in. DMX reportedly had been getting offers from movie producers about a biopic. On top of that with all his spare time in prison he managed to do a lot of songwriting and is planning on dropping a new album any time now.
