Rev. Bernice King, the daughter of late civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr., is livid after peepin’ Donald Trump’s latest claims, in which he oddly involved her dad’s powerful legacy. In fact, Bernice is so offended by Trump’s MLK-comparison, that she has called him out over it, by shutting down his imaginative claims with a ‘receipt.’

What Trump Said That Made MLK’s Daughter Respond

As y’all have heard by now, on August 8, 2024, Trump held a press conference at his Mar-A-Lago resort. He seemingly grew a tad agitated when a reporter asked him about the massive crowd that Democratic Presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris; and her VP nominee pick, Tim Walz, recently drew on the Presidential campaign trail. That’s when Trump oddly compared himself – by way of comparing his crowd size – to a deceased civil rights icon, MLK, claiming he drew a bigger crowd during his January 6, 2021 rally, than Dr. King did for his revolutionary “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963.

“Oh give me a break,” Trump spewed. “I’ve spoken to the biggest crowds. Nobody’s spoken to crowds bigger than me. If you look at Martin Luther King when he did his speech, his great speech, and you look at ours, same real estate, same everything, same number of people, if not we had more. And they said he had a million people, but I had 25,000 people.”

The Math Ain’t Mathin’

Trump’s crowd-size claim is not accurate, as was pointed out by The Associated Press’s fact checkers:

“Approximately 250,000 people attended the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, at which King gave his speech, according to the National Park Service. The Associated Press reported in 2021 that there were at least 10,000 people at Trump’s address.” – AP

Additionally, Trump’s claim of the location of his 2021 rally was also inaccurate. He did not hold his rally in the same location as MLK.  Dr. King delivered his speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, which is nearly one mile from where Trump’s rally was held at the Ellipse– the grassy area near the White House.

In a response to Trump’s inaccurate claims, Bernice King re-shared a clip on X (formerly Twitter) of his MLK-comparison statements, along with photos of MLK, and the crowd that showed up for her father’s 1963 “I Have A Dream Speech” –which was visibly far more massive than Trump’s 2021 rally. She captioned her post with this:

“Absolutely not true. I really wish that people would stop using my father to support fallacy.”

Props to Bernice King for speaking up for her iconic father who’s no longer here to speak for himself…but also, who’s positive, unified legacy continues to stand the test of time.

Now that Vice President Kamala Harris has made it official– that she is running for President of the U.S., Tina Knowles is standing beside her wholeheartedly. So much so, that the mom of Bey’ and Solange is now using her social media pages to repeatedly call out Donald Trump and his political antics, as well as to show full support of VP Harris. And as y’all can imagine, plenty of folks have something to say about Tina –the mother of one of the biggest music celebs in the game– being brave enough to loudly speak her mind. In other words, they’re now seeing that Mama Tina handles these topics a lot different from her eldest child, Bey’ (at least publicly speaking, but we’ll explain that in a sec.’).

In one Instagram post, Tina re-shared the sentiments of comedian/radio personality, DL Hughley, who shared a meme slamming Trump and calling out those who support Trump’s oftentimes questionable tactics and behaviors. The meme read as follows:

“Despite calling Barron ‘Melania’s son’, getting JD Vance’s name wrong, confusing Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi and falling aslepep on camera at the Republican National Convention, the media has never made a multi-week story out of questioning Trumps cognitive abilities, energy level, or ability to do the job. As the late music/acting icon, Sammy Davis Jr., was dying, he was also reportedly dealt a huge setback by Donald Trump. Ultimately, Sammy’s Rat Pack partner and close friend, the late Frank Sinatra, had to stand up for him against Trump, according to Sinatra’s former manager.

In his upcoming memoir, “The Way it Was,” Sinatra’s ex-manager, Eliot Weisman, details the time that he damn near choked Trump, and Sinatra told Trump to “Go f**k himself”…in that order. Apparently, just like Trump did during his presidency, Weiss says the beef started between them due to Trump’s offensive tactics and comments.

What Happened Between Trump, Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr.?

Weisman said the drama went down in 1990, the same year Sammy Davis Jr. passed away from throat cancer. Although Sammy had terminal cancer, he was still performing to earn money. Sinatra’s manager said Trump blocked Sammy and Sinatra from getting the payment they were already scheduled to receive from their then-upcoming Taj Mahal performance.

According to Weisman, Trump stepped in at the last minute and tried to undercut them by cutting Sammy and their opening act out of the performance altogether. Therefore, the then deathly-ill Sammy Davis Jr. couldn’t earn the much needed money he thought he had coming to him at that time:

According to [Eliot] Weisman, Trump started off the new negotiations by saying that the cost for the 12 dates Sinatra was slated to perform was “a little rich.” The Donald also decided he didn’t need to book the other acts that were part of the original deal, including Sammy Davis Jr…. and Steve and Eydie.

But the reported drama didn’t stop there between Trump, Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr….

Via NYDailyNews: According to Weisman, he had a deal in place with the new venue’s operator, Mark Grossinger Etess, who died in a helicopter crash before they could cross the T’s and dot the I’s. That’s when The Donald got involved. Weisman said that Paul Anka warned him at Etess’ funeral that he was about to learn the meaning of “The Art of the Deal,” which is the title of Trump’s how-to book in wheeling and dealing.

The manager says Sinatra then told Trump to ‘go f*&k himself’:

“Who’s Steve and Eydie?” Trump asked, according to Weisman. Weisman said he then tried choking The Donald by his tie, but his son, who was also at the meeting, restrained him. Weisman called Sinatra to tell him what had happened, and Sinatra told him he had two choices: to tell Trump to go f–k himself or give Trump’s phone number to Sinatra so that he could do it himself. Weisman returned to Trump’s office and told The Donald “Sinatra says go f–k yourself!”

After reportedly telling Trump what to do with his disrespect, Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and their supporting act, Steve and Eydie, were lik,e ‘To hell with Trump and his Taj Mahal.’ Then they took their performances to Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas instead. Pam Grier has more than 50 years in the entertainment game and she’s still going strong. Known for classic 1970’s films, like Wonder Woman, Coffy, Black Mama/White Mama, Jackie Brown, and of course, Foxy Brown, Grier is still known as one of the sexiest actresses of that era. During an interview with the Associated Press, Grier discussed the evolution of filmmaking over the years and the vast changes in Hollywood. The 72-year-old actress revealed she actually did her own stunts until she starred in Foxy Brown. In addition to discussing Hollywood, she also touched on why she once turned down Donald Trump.

The Price Of Success:

According to The Grio, Grier shared details about some of the complications she faced filming an action movie in the 70s. Since there weren’t stunt doubles back then, there were times when Grier suffered mild injuries in the process of bringing scenes to life. ”I almost broke my ankle,” she said. “They painted my cast to look like a boot, and I’m limping. And I was ‘Does this look good?’ It looks good.”

She went on to wish the best for actresses of today. When asked how she felt about the remake of Foxy Brown starring Meagan Good, she had nothing but great things to say about the talented actress. In fact, she’s optimistic about the remake and believes it will be interesting. “I applaud them, I want them to succeed,” Grier said. “I started it. I don’t want them to fail.”

Turning Down Trump:

During the interview, Grier discussed present opportunities she’s had. Apparently, the famed actress was offered an opportunity to be on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice but quickly turned it down. Grier explained how she believes in”due diligence” with people before opting to work with them. Donald Trump’s hypocrisy is definitely a deal breaker for Pam Grier:

“Here’s a man who said he was going to offer jobs, well, your caps are made in China,” Grier said. “I haven’t heard him say that he would have a factory here to put people to work. I haven’t heard his daughter say they would start a factory here to put people to work, so I’m confused. I’m like, ‘Where’s the logic here?’”

Right now, Grier has better things anyways, she’s focusing on turning her best-selling autobiography, Foxy: My Life in Three Acts, into a film. The project is reportedly still in the production planning stages but its probably safe to say it’ll be a hit.

Boris Kodjoe was born March 8 1973 in Vienna, Austria to a German mother and Ghanaian father and when he emigrated to the United States he spoke absolutely no English. In an interview with BET Boris explained;

I was 19 when I moved to the U.S., after I had already finished high school. I couldn’t speak English very well when I came here. I grew up speaking German. That’s actually how I got into acting—I took acting classes to help me get rid of my accent. I just stumbled into acting from there.

Although Boris has been a fixture in television shows and movies since the 1990’s he is best known for his role as Damon on the critically acclaimed Showtime series Soul Food, based on the hit film of the same name. His time on that series introduced him to actress Nicole Ari Parker, whom he married in May 2005.

The Infamous “Tweeter” Chimes In

It was only a matter of time before President Donald Trump chimed in on the Jussie Smollett case.

As you recall earlier this week the 16 federal counts were dropped in this case. Smollett was facing charges for allegedly lying to the police about his attack back in January. Trump seems to have wanted to initiate the investigation. The agencies however have already been on it!

Tuesday Chicago’s Fraternal Order of Police stated that it will file with the Department of Justice. This was announced after it was made known that Smollett was not going to be standing trail. Kim Foxx, a State Attorney for Cook County has been defending Smollett’s case from the start.

She stated that it is a “typical outcome” for someone facing class 4 felonies. FBI intends to continue their investigation into the hate mail that Smollett had allegedly sent to himself weeks before the alleged attack.

Now, He’s Not Holding Back

During an interview with Esquire published this week, the veteran actor gave his raw and hones truth about the president, referring to him with some unflattering expletives.

Esquire asked Jackson: You’ve been vocal about Trump. A lot of people have their beliefs but are careful about stating them, because they don’t want to jeopardize their career.

I think we feel the same way that all of the motherfuckers that hated Obama felt for eight years. So they said all that sh!t. They put f–king pictures up on the Internet of Michelle sitting with her legs crossed with a d!ck hanging down. We feel the same way that they feel or they felt about Obama being the man, even though he wasn’t f–king ruining their lives; he was trying to help their lives.

This motherfucker is like ruining the planet and all kinds of other crazy shit. And the people think that’s okay. It’s not fu*king okay. And if you’re not saying anything, then you’re complicit. And I wouldn’t give a f–k if I was a garbageman and I had a Twitter account; I’d tweet that shit out. I’m not thinking about who I am and what my job is when I do that shit.

I’m Not Going To Lose Any Money

He went on to say that Trump is ruining the planet. “This motherf–ker is like ruining the planet and all kinds of other crazy s–t,” the 70-year-old actor said. “And the people think that’s OK. It’s not f–king OK. And if you’re not saying anything, then you’re complicit.”

When asked if he was worried about antagonizing Trump voters, the “Avengers” star dismissed concerns: “I know how many motherf–kers hate me. ‘I’m never going to see a Sam Jackson movie again.’ F–k I care? If you never went to another movie I did in my life, I’m not going to lose any money. I already cashed that check. F–k you. Burn up my videotapes. I don’t give a f–k.”

Jackson also slammed critics who say he shouldn’t wade into politics and that he should “stick to acting.”

“No, motherf–ker. I’m a human being that feels a certain way. And some of this s–t does affect me, because if we don’t have health care … and my relatives get sick, they’re going to call my rich a–,” Jackson continued. “I want them to have health care. I want them to be able to take care of themselves. This is how I feel. And I count to 100 some days before I hit ‘send,’ because I know how that s–t is.”

In case you’ve been unplugged from social media for the past few hours, Kanye, Jim Brown and Donald Trump, are the new faces of comical memes, jokes and overall online chatter. They’re trending everywhere following their early Thursday meeting inside the Oval Office, for several reasons: (1) It was odd and seemingly pointless, other than a press-opp for all of them; (2) ‘Ye and Jim were lookin’ pretty coon-like; and (3) we still don’t know what the actual focal point of the meeting was.

At any rate, former civil rights legend, Jim Brown, has now been forced to defend his meeting with Trump; against thousands of folks who’ve been calling him out for condoning Trump’s oftentimes, racial/gender/socio-economic biased policies and statements.

Overall, the meeting was strange and Kanye overpowered it with narcissistic, socio-political rants that were kinda all over the place.

At one point during the meeting, Trump referred to Kanye as a “smart cookie,” then also gave Jim a compliment for being “smart” as well. That’s a back-handed compliment in my humble opinion. It’s sorta like telling a darker complexioned African American woman, ‘You’re beautiful…for a dark skinned woman,’ as opposed to admiring her simply for the beautiful woman that she actually is…PERIOD. Could be me, but Trump seemed as if he were giving ‘Ye and Jim subliminal pats on their heads and subsequently complimenting them on ‘being smart…for a negro,’ but I digress. Anywho, back to the topic at hand.

Jim Brown mostly sat in silence, as Kanye ranted and raved in true ‘Ye fashion about well…everything. Kanye’s rants were all over the place and Jim Brown could barely get a word in edgewise. But on second thought, it’s unclear as to whether, or not, his silence was a sign of regret for being there. Whatever the case, here’s one of the few things Jim did manage to say when Trump pulled him into the convo:

“You know why I’m here? I’m here to serve, I’m not here to ask for anything,” Jim told Trump. Trump’s reply was, “Yeah, that’s really nice man.”

Then Jim Brown held a press conference on the White House lawn, explaining why he was there to ‘serve’ Trump. He started off with announcing why that meeting made him feel “privileged”:

“We had the opportunity to meet with the President of the United States, which everybody doesn’t have that privilege.”

The NFL legend then pissed off many even further, when a reporter asked if he’d discussed Trump’s insensitive bashing of Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players who take a knee to peacefully protest against police brutality and officers’ unjust murders of people of color:

“I can be very blunt about taking a knee. …First of all, I’m an American. That flag is my flag. Things that I’ve overcome in this country…make me a better person. I don’t think that we should take knees and protest, instead of standing up for our flag. I think we should work it out as a family.”

…Says the man who once publicly supported Muhammad Ali’s fight for equal rights against America’s judicial system. Hmmm…check out the video clip of his full press conference below…

Despite the mounting allegations against Kavanaugh, Trump is doin’ what Trump does to overlook all of his faults. However, the controversial president hasn’t been as understanding and considerate of Central Park Five.

If you haven’t heard of the Central Park Five, they’re a group of African-American males accused of raping a white female jogger. Although all of the men have been accused of committing similar crimes, apparently, Trump refuses to acknowledge that when it comes to Brett Kavanaugh. D.L. recently took to Twitter to offer his opinion on the situation.

Be Fair Or Be Nothin’:

D.L. Hughley has been on a roll lately when it comes to citing double standards in politics, race relations, and other areas of life. A couple weeks ago, he argued the double standards in sports, noting how Serena Williams’ was treated in comparison to the white male tennis stars who have had similar meltdowns during tournaments. Now, he’s turned his attention to Trump’s support of Brett Kavanaugh.

D.L. posted a tweet that included a quote from Trump where he talked about the “scary time for young men in America.” He complained about people being found guilty of crimes they didn’t commit. D.L. flipped the script and explained why Trump definitely wasn’t talking about black men. Since the justice system has rarely worked in favor of black suspects, D.L. believes Trump was alluding to men of his own hue. Sadly, there are many cases where black males are considered guilty until proven innocent, instead of innocent until proven guilty. But now that Brett Kavanaugh is in the hot seat, Trump has the ability to see the reality of the issue despite the mounting evidence against Kavanaugh.

For those who didn’t happen to hear Trump’s full statement, he said, “Well, it’s a tough thing going on. If you can be an exemplary person for 35 years, and then somebody comes and they say you did this or that, and they give three witnesses, and the three witnesses—at this point—do not corroborate what she was saying. It’s a very scary situation where you’re guilty until proven innocent. My whole life … my whole life I’ve heard you’re innocent until proven guilty, but now you’re guilty until proven innocent. That is a very, very difficult standard,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

Guilty Until Proven Innocent:

By now, we all know Trump has more than a few narcissistic tendencies, which is why he’s always spoken of the Central Park Five as if they were found guilty. The five men accused of 1989 rape have long been exonerated, but apparently, Trump didn’t get the memo.

He still speaks lowly of them, as if they are convicted felons. Despite the details of the case and the detailed confession from the true perpetrator, Matias Reyes, Trump still refuses to see the black males involved as innocent citizens who were wrongfully accused of a horrible crime they did not commit.

In fact, back in 2016, Trump called for the case to be reopened because he believed the five suspects should have faced the death penalty.

At the time, he said, “They admitted they were guilty… The police doing the original investigation say they were guilty. The fact that that case was settled with so much evidence against them is outrageous.”

So with all of the evidence against Brett Kavanaugh, why isn’t Trump comin’ for him the same way he’s humiliated the Central Park 5? Well, we all know the reason why and like D.L. Hughley, many people see race as the key factor. Sadly in Trump’s America, race matters more than the truth, which is why D.L. is urging black people to stay woke.

Via Yahoo: “I should be criticizing Trump on every level because he does certain things that call for criticism, but when I look at television I see all these announcers become experts and they’re pointing the fingers and they’re not doing a doggone thing but pointing their fingers, I find myself really pulling for the president,” Brown said. “Now, that would make me very unpopular in the black community, very unpopular with a lot of Americans … but I think that there are certain good things that are coming out of this presidency because we’ve never seen anything like it.”

Of course Trump pounced all over the opportunity to attempt to confirm to his followers, that he’s loved by Black folks as well. On Monday morning, he immediately took to Twitter to thank Jim Brown for his support and to also take credit for the result of former president Barack Obama’s hard work:

And the federal budget deficit has sharply declined from a high of 9.8 percent of GDP in the middle of the Great Recession to a manageable 3.2 percent last year.
When it comes to job creation, the economy has been adding jobs for 78 months in a row. Saying Trump is responsible for the current economy is completely disingenuous—his main efforts have been to undo Obama’s legacy, many of which are directly responsible for the economic gains the U.S. is seeing.

Not Surprised By Jim Brown’s Trump Support

As previously mentioned, Jim Brown’s latest interview does not surprise me one bit. Why? Because ever since I first laid eyes on him standing with Trump outside of Trump Tower after Trump won the election, I knew right then and there, that the brotha’s past push for civil rights was long over.

Other reasons this doesn’t surprise me, are because it was just days earlier, that Jim was photographed hanging out with Trump’s other Black celebrity supporter, Kanye West.

And of course we can’t forget about the time Jim Brown spoke out against NFL player, Colin Kaepernick, for silently protesting against the inhumane treatment and killings of people of color. That’s the very thing Jim Brown fought for with Muhammad Ali in 1967. Wow.

Listen, we all have a right to support any politician our hearts desire, but that doesn’t make any one exempt from being called out over it, just sayin.’
