Erykah Badu is an incredible talent and an amazing woman, which is probably why she’s captured the hearts of so many. It’s definitely easy to see why Dallas rapper D.O.C. was attracted to the “On and On” singer. Not only were they romantically involved for quite some time, but they also have a beautiful daughter together – 18-year-old Puma Sabti Curry. Although Erykah and D.O.C. are celebrities, there’s a lot of their personal life fans know nothing about.

Now, most women will probably wish their exes well with new relationships, life chapters, and other endeavors, but Erykah Badu went a step further when D.O.C. and his fiancee welcomed her baby. For those who don’t know, Erykah is also a certified doula, helping to preserve the traditions of midwife culture.

During a previous interview with Sway, Erykah revealed she’d also given birth to all three of her children at home. But, it was the birth of a friend’s child that influenced her decision to become a doula, reports BlackDoctor.org. “My best friends, two of them – stic.man [of Dead Prez] and his wife Afya – were in labor and I was on a flight and he called me and said that, ‘Afya told me to let you know that she’s in labor.’ And I re-routed my flight – This was in 2001 – to go to be with them here in Brooklyn. And I just stayed up with her,” Erykah said.

“Her labor was natural, for fifty-two hours. Fifty-two hours. And I stayed up with her. I didn’t get sleepy or anything. I was able to just be there for her, whatever it took – singing, coaching, walking, bouncing, massaging. I had just had my son, a live, natural birth at home as well, so I had a little bit of experience. After that, I felt that well I can do this. I can be the welcoming committee for new spirits coming in. That’s when I decided to start studying for it. I became a doula about five years ago.”

Most fans know Erykah has a good relationship with her exes, but apparently, D.O.C. does too. Here’s what he has to say about his friendship with Andre 3000 and Jay Electronica. In Nov. of 1997, Erykah gave birth to Seven Sirius Benjamin with Andre 3000. Then, on February 1, 2009, she welcomed a second daughter, Mars Merkaba Thedford, with famed producer Jay Electronic.

Meet Erykah Badu’s Much Younger Bae’…

His name is JaRon Adkison, and Erykah refers to him as “my love.” JaRon goes by the stage name, JaRon the Secret. Yep, that’s right…Erykah is staying true to what has been her preference in men for the past few decades. Just like her exes — Common, Andre 3000, Jay Electronica, and D.O.C. — JaRon has something in common with them all…he, too, is a music artist. Only difference is JaRon is an up-and-coming artist (by the way, he’s good at his craft, just like Erykah’s exes). In addition to being an artist, Jaron the Secret is also a music producer and shoe designer.

JaRon Was Approximately 2 – 3 Years Old When Badu Released Video For “Other Side Of The Game” Ft. Andre 3000?

So, how old is JaRon the Secret? Word on the Old School curb is that the brotha is 27 or 28 years old. According to Daily Mail’s report in December 2021, JaRon was 27 at that time. Therefore, he could possibly either have already turned 28; or will be making 28 this year (2022). That also means JaRon was approximately 2 or 3 years old when Erykah released her debut album, “Baduizm,” back in 1997, when we were vibin’ to hits like, “On & On,” and “Other Side Of The Game” (when she was pregnant with her and Andre 3000’s son, Seven, in that video).

The reason JaRon’s exact birth date is a mystery is because one look at his social media pages, or hell…even a search on Google, and it’s clear to see that JaRon and Erykah appear to intentionally keep any remnants of his birth year on the low…likely out of concern of online chatter about their reportedly 20+ year age difference.

At any rate, one glance at the happy couple, and one thing is clear – he’s a lot younger than Erykah. However, the two of them seem hella happy. They say opposites attract, and although Erykah and JaRon are like a May-December romance as far as age goes…they’re not so opposite in many other ways.

In the past, Common’s made it no secret that Erykah was “my first love and my first heartbreak.” Almost two decades later, he’s still being asked about the neo-soul pioneer that broke his heart in his late 20s.

This go ’round, Common revealed that after Erykah Badu ‘broke up with him over the phone’ (as he once stated in a prior interview), he was so depressed, that he couldn’t even muster up the will to eat…dayumn! “Some of the hardest work I’ve done on myself has been after breakups,” Common told People. “With Erykah Badu, that was my first love where you’re just open and floating. Erykah’s mom, Kolleen Gipson a.k.a. Queenie, is making her 60’s look like the new 40’s! Kolleen was a theatrical actor back when Erykah and her siblings were youngins. Unfortunately, she had to end her acting career to raise her three children. Although she said she ALWAYS encouraged them to pursue artistic careers:

Kolleen explained to OkayPlayer that she always told her kids to “find your passion and you make sure you can make money doing that. Anything that they did that was artistic, whether it was singing or dancing or even being a cheerleader or writing or whatever, I encouraged that–because I just didn’t see them with 9 to 5 jobs. Although there is nothing wrong with it, because that’s how we ate. But I just saw something different for them,” revealed Kolleen.

Erykah Badu and her brother, Eeven Wright, are very close and according to her website, he ‘travels with her and serves as her merchandise manager’ and also ‘took part in recording Erykah’s Worldwide Underground album.’ All this time has gone by and most of us never even knew she had a brother.
