Nicki Minaj finally proved herself not to be the lying-publicity stunt pulling-attention seeker that many fans were accusing her of being, after the public vow she made to former “Cosby Show” actor, Geoffrey Owens.

As we all know by now, Geoffrey was job shamed online as a result of a viral video that showed the brotha working at Trader Joe’s, as a cashier, a few weeks ago. Though Geoffrey was admittedly devastated, he took it in stride and also received major respect from millions of people who respected his humbleness and honest work.

What She Promised vs. What She Did

Many of y’all may recall that one of Geoffrey Owens’ praisers was Nicki Minaj, who promised to donate $25K to Geoffrey, following the public outing.

Welp, as we previously reported, days, upon days had gone by and Nicki was starting to look more like an opportunist, who voluntarily interjected herself into the massive wave of hype that had suddenly surrounded Geoffrey Owens’ in the media.

It especially seemed that way after a media outlet contacted Geoffrey’s team to follow up on whether or not he’d received the donation from Nicki. Turns out that at that time, Geoffrey hadn’t received a dime of Nicki’s promised donation. Nor had he heard a peep outta her, or her team, since she’d made the public announcement.

Even still, Geoffrey made it clear that he wasn’t sweatin’ it, though he did appreciate the mere gesture of Minaj’s promise and was deeply touched. He never asked for a helping hand and admitted that even if she did send him the $25K, he’d donate it to one of his favorite charities, to help those in more dire need than himself.

Well, that was then and this is now. Here’s what happened after Nicki finally came through on her word…

Nicki Donates Money To Owens…Owens Then Does This…

It has now been a few weeks since Nicki Minaj promised her $25K donation to Geoffrey…and lo and behold, ol’ girl has finally pressed ‘send’ on that money transfer, so to speak. It’s just been confirmed that Geoffrey Owens has now received the rapper’s donation and is extremely grateful that she cared enough to eventually send it to him.

However, he, too, also proved that he was a stand up human being, by staying true to his word. Soon as the money hit Geoffrey’s account, he did as he promised and donated ALL of the $25,000.00 to a charity in memory of his former Cosby Show co-star, Earle Hyman:

Nicki reacted to Geoffrey’s donation with this statement:

One such celeb’ was rapper, Nicki Minaj, who expressed great respect for Geoffrey as a “fuc*in’ legend,” as she put it. She also vowed to make a generous $25K donation to Geoffrey, outta mutual respect. The rationale, as it was explained, was that in the world of entertainment, one must extend a helping hand to take care of their own. She received thunderous online applause for her vow to Geoffrey, but now there’s only one teeny-tiny prob.’

Show Me The Money!

Although Geoffrey Owens is one of the most humble people on the planet, pretty sure there are millions of others who’d be like ‘Show me the money Nicki!’ if they were in his position. What position, you ask? The position of the actor who was non-provokingly promised a lump sum of money by Nicki Minaj, but has yet to hear a peep outta her – other than what the rest of us heard during her public vow to Geoffrey – days ago.

According to what Owen’s team told TMZ, Nicki’s recent excuse, during a Monday airing of her Queen Radio show, seems suspect as hell:

Sources familiar with the situation tell us Minaj and her team have yet to even contact Geoffrey or his people, much less hand over the cash. […]

On Monday’s episode of ‘Queen Radio,’ Nicki discussed her pledge … saying she was having a tough time getting in touch with Owens’ team — but our sources say Geoffrey’s team hasn’t heard a peep, and is easily reachable.

Last week, during an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” Nicki Minaj spoke about Geoffrey Owens’ situation, revealing how pissed off she was that someone would put him on blast that way. She understands that can happen to herself, or any other entertainer:

“Some people are on the internet and seeking attention, and he’s [Geoffrey Owens] just the antithesis of that,” said Nicki Minaj. So I felt like, ‘Oh my God, could you imagine?’ … We all have done jobs like that and I just thought, ‘What if that were me? Or a family member and they were minding their own business, working to feed their family and somebody tried to humiliate them?’ I don’t like the way that feels.”

She continued, “Tell him that I’m going to have my team contact him because I hope he doesn’t take it the wrong way. … I just want to help him in any way I can.”

Later, during her ‘Queen Radio’ radio show, Nicki Minaj made a big announcement in honor of the legendary Geoffrey Owens:

“That man is now getting so many opportunities,” Minaj expressed. “I personally want to donate on behalf of Queen Radio $25,000 to Geoffrey Owens. You know why? Imma tell you something. This man is a whole f**king legend in these streets.”

Nicki’s Publicity Stunt & Geoffrey’s Blessings

It was a beautiful gesture, but at this point, if Nicki ain’t out here putting her money where her mouth is, then her so-called ‘generosity’ starts to look like a publicity stunt…at Geoffrey Owens’ expense.

At any rate, despite Nicki not sending the $25K donation she promised, TMZ reported that Geoffrey doesn’t want to be seen as a ‘charity case.’ Although he’s appreciative of all of the support and love, following the public job shaming attempts, the publication said his team informed them that Geoffrey would probably donate Nicki’s donation (if he ever gets it) to some of his favorite charities.

Since he’s been outed as a cashier at Trader Joe’s, Geoffrey’s received the blessings of the Universe, which has now brought a 10-episode deal for Tyler Perry’s “The Haves and the Have Nots,” as well as a role on “NCIS: New Orleans” into Geoffrey’s life.

When Geoffrey Owens a.k.a. ‘Elvin’ from “The Cosby Show” was exposed as a cashier working at a New Jersey based Trader Joe’s grocery store, he initially thought his life had been turned upside down. Why? Because the initial reports by certain news outlets (hint, hint…Fox News) presented that information in a manner that appeared to be job shaming. That led to a flurry of social media comments from ignorant folks bashing the brotha for working. Then came the tremendous outpouring of support from thousands of people who defended Geoffrey. The “Cosby Show” legend admitted that the love everyone was showing him was ‘overwhelming,’ but never in a million years, would he have imagined what was to come next.

First, Tyler Perry reached out to him and offered a role on his hit TV series, “The Haves and the Have Nots.” Now rapper, Nicki Minaj, has stepped up with a generous helping hand for the man she looked up to as a child.

Nicki Minaj Donating How Much To Geoffrey Owens

Geoffrey Owens Accepts Tyler Perry’s Offer

As we mentioned earlier, in addition to Nicki’s generosity, Tyler Perry gave Geoffrey something equally as generous, an opportunity…and a job doing what he loves most.

After Tyler saw Geoffrey’s story, he reached out to him on Twitter:

“#GeoffreyOwens I’m about to start shooting OWN’s number one drama next week! Come join us!!! I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist.”

Eventually, Geoffrey got the message and was completely ‘overwhelmed’ by Tyler’s “generous” offer. Since then, it’s been confirmed that Geoffrey will be flying out to Atlanta, GA to shoot next week for “The Haves and The Have Nots.” He’s accepted a deal for a recurring role on the show and will star in 10 episodes! Geoffrey has since quit his Trader Joe’s job after working their for 11 months. Like my mama would always say, ‘Look at Gawd!’

Geoffrey Owens On Why He Didn’t Quit

Geoffrey explained, to People Magazine, how grateful he is for the tremendous support and for not giving upon himself:

“I’ve learned to never give up,” he said. “A lot of times I was on the verge of quitting the job at Trader Joe’s, but I didn’t because I couldn’t. But it was sufficiently awkward and uncomfortable to be in that kind of job [and be] recognized from time to time. I wanted to leave at times, even though I was grateful for it as work. But if I had done that, none of this would’ve happened.”

Malcolm Jamal Warner had a few things to get off his chest on Tuesday morning (Sept. 4, 2018), in defense of his former “Cosby Show” co-star, Geoffrey Owens. His message involved a few unknown facts about Geoffrey and he straight up cursed out anyone who is throwing shade at him for working at Trader Joe’s. In other words, Malcolm revealed a very non-Theo-like side of himself that the world doesn’t know and we love it.

After news began to spread about his former TV ‘brother-in-law,’ Geoffrey (who played “Sondra Huxtable’s” husband) working at Trader Joe’s as a cashier, Malcolm got fed up with the internet chuckles some were giving.

He also didn’t appreciate how Fox News tried to play the man, by reporting the info in a manner that suggests Geoffrey should be ashamed of working at the store. At the same time, there were thousands more people who defended Geoffrey against the nonsense and applauded him for working and taking care of his family. That also didn’t go unnoticed by Malcolm.

Therefore, in a response to all of the above, Malcolm posted a lengthy message, on Instagram, that summed up the roller coaster ride of emotions he’s feeling at this time. See what he had to say below.

Malcolm Jamal Warner went clean OFF on Fox and the haters who have been leaving disrespectful online comments about Geoffrey’s job.

“Just when most of us get sick and tired of social media and how heartbreaking it can be, something heartwarming like this happens. I can’t express to you how full my heart is seeing how social media has rallied behind and supports Geoffrey Owens.”

He also revealed a few wonderful unknown facts about his former co-star, while at it:

“Geoffrey is a good dude. It’s actually a distinguishing quality of his. So it’s no wonder that he is willing to do whatever he needs to do legally to take care of his family. What people don’t know about Geoffrey is that not only did he graduate cum laude from Yale, but he is an accomplished theater actor (pre and post Cosby). His intimate knowledge of Shakespeare as an actor and director puts many of us to shame.”

Then he schooled the naysayers, while simultaneously cursing them out to be damneth:

“And in a way we should thank Fox News and the miserable fucks for their attempt to job shame him. With the love and support he’s getting from everybody, he’s about to get more work. Trader Joe’s is not a career change, you dumbfucks out there, it’s a placeholder gig that allows flexibility to go on auditions and then to take time off to go work when booking said auditions. An actor’s life is a series of ups and downs. As my mama used to tell me when I was a teenager, if you’re in this business long enough, you will have dry spells. Watch this be the kickstart this dry spell needed! Salute and MAD respect to bro #GeofferyOwens.”

And BOOM…drops mic, exits stage left! That’s how Malcolm Jamal Warner gracefully put the haters in check and gave his homie – Geoffrey Owens – the just due that he deserves. Job well done Malcolm.

As most of us have heard by now, Geoffrey Owens, or as we old schoolers know him as- “Elvin” from “The Cosby Show”- was currently exposed as a cashier at Trader Joe’s. The photos of him working the register and bagging groceries on the job, went viral on social media last week. Initially reports *coughs Fox News* attempted to shame the brotha for working at the the grocery store chain, but we and many others gained a newfound respect for Geoffrey, for earning an honest living.

Now, he’s finally spoken publicly about the viral photos and his response will make you love the man even more.

In an interview with “Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts, the ex “Cosby Show” star revealed his true reaction to the photos that he says were ‘devastating’…but there is a brighter side for him.

When asked if he felt that the initial reports by Fox News were trying to ‘job shame’ him for working at Trader Joe’s, Geoffrey confessed:

“I did [feel that way]…when I first saw those pictures,” Owens confessed. Then he jokingly stated, “By the way, they photoshopped those pictures. You know they photo shopped them, you know I don’t look that bad, LOL. I was actually preparing for the role as fall-staff in production of ‘Henry the IV part 1,’ set in a grocery store.”

Geoffrey Owens then revealed the pain that the reports initially caused him and his wife, but it didn’t last long:

“I was REALLY devastated. But…the period of devastation was so short, because so shortly after that…my wife and I started to read these [online] responses- literally all of the world- of support. And so, fortunately the shame part didn’t last very long. It hurt, but then….it’s just amazing.”

On how he ended up working as a cashier and his persistent determination to pursue acting:
“I’ve been teaching, acting, directing for 30-plus years, but…it got to a point where it [the pay] just didn’t add up enough, you know. And you gotta do what you gotta do. I wanted a job where I can have some flexibility, um…try to stay in the [acting] business. I didn’t advertise that I was…at Trader Joe’s. Not that I was ashamed of it, but I didn’t want the entertainment community to kind of decide ‘Well he’s doing that now…he’s not pursuing acting anymore,’ you know. I felt like I had to be careful about that.”

As far as feeling sorry for him- don’t, says Geoffrey. He in no way feels sorry for maintaining an honest living and doing what he needs to do for his family:

“I’ve had a great career and uh…I’ve had a career that most actors would die for. So no one has to feel sorry for me, I’m doing fine.”

Well said Geoffrey! On a side note: Trader Joe’s needs to cut this man a MAJOR check for all this free publicity he’s garnered for them across the globe.

Anyways, the fact that he’s stood up and stood IN his truth- as a hard working man who is humble enough to go from Hollywood, to Trader Joe’s- speaks volumes about his character. Remember actor, Geoffrey Owens? He played the character of ‘Elvin Tibideaux’ the husband of ‘Sondra Huxtable,’ on “The Cosby Show,” between 1985 and 1992. Well, he was recently spotted working a regular 9-5 job and it caught many fans off guard.

The Job He Was Spotted On:

Geoffrey Owens hasn’t been seen on the small screen in a long time. When “The Cosby Show” ended in ’92, Owens wasn’t seen in many acting roles. After the series ended, Owens found himself on the outside, according to his aging mother, Ethel. Many people may not have known this, but Owens had bit parts in the 2018 short film Fizzle and on the television show, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” However, his mother told Radar Online, that Owens wasn’t given the respect that he deserved:

“He was the star of the show, but they forgot about him after it went off the air!” stated Ethel to Radar Online. Ethel shares a two-story home with Owens.

According to the Daily Mail,  Karma Lawrence was out shopping with her wife at a New Jersey Trader Joe’s when she spotted the actor behind the register (see above photo). Initially, Lawrence was unsure if it was Owens as she motioned her wife, Yanelle, for confirmation:

“I was just in Trader Joe’s and I said to my wife, I said, ‘Wait a minute, that’s the guy from The Cosby Show’,” Lawrence told the Daily Mail.

While it has been years since Owens was spotted, he still looks the same. Wearing a name tag that said “Geoffrey” and sportin’ a salt n’ pepper colored full beard,  he was photographed weighing potatoes with grease stains on his shirt. I’m sure he wasn’t thinking that he wouldn’t be photographed while at work.

Surprised to see him, Lawrence shared that seeing Owens working at an $11 an hour job put her in a somber mood:

“I have never seen him at Trader Joe’s before. I was getting a bunch of groceries and he wasn’t really looking at anybody, but he said, ‘Have a nice day.’ It made me feel really bad. I was like, ‘Wow! All those years of doing the show and you ended up as a cashier,” Lawrence said. “I would have thought after The Cosby Show he would maybe be doing something different. Other fans would be surprised as well.”

Lawrence isn’t the only Cosby fan who has recognized Owens. His mother shared with Radar Online that Owens is often recognized by other customers who remember Owens from their childhood. Seeing Owens brings back memories of his on-screen wife, ‘Sondra Huxtable’ a.k.a. former “Cosby Show” kid, Sabrina Le Beauf.
