Salt-N-Pepa will be in effect on a TV screen near you, in 2020 to be exact. According to Rolling Stone, Lifetime network has green-lighted the project.

We See You Queen Latifah!

Executive produced by non-other than “Ms. U.N.I.T.Y.” Queen Latifah herself and her Flavor Unit Production Company.

The Salt-N-Pepa miniseries traverses the lives of Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton, as they go from nursing school students to entering the world of hip-hop and rap and their rise and successes, which includes becoming the first female rap act to go platinum. The miniseries will feature a slew of their hits, including “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “What a Man,” “Shoop” and “Push It,” among others. James and Denton will serve as executive producers alongside Jesse Collins, and Flavor Unit’s Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere.

No word if Salt-N-Pepa’s DJ Spinderella will be featured in the miniseries, but that seems quite obvious.

Salt-N-Pepa is not the only musical group to be on Lifetime next year either. A popular gospel group will receive their own Lifetime biopic.

Enough Is Enough

Tweet has had enough of the church and rumors circulating about her daughter Shenice and has taken to Instagram to clear things up!

The two went to IG live to vent about the church and all of its antics. As you may recall the R&B singer previously dated Pastor Jamal Bryant, the two decided to go their separate ways last year.

She Gave Her Life To Christ

She has since been vocal about how she felt about the church, and how it has turned into a place of business rather than a place of healing. She also spoke on the backlash people gave her for returning to secular music after she gave her life to Christ.

Now what ignited the flame is when her daughter who is an aspiring singer trying to make her mark on the music scene is being targeted by people of the so called “church”. Shenice is also enduring similar struggles as her mother; whether to sing secular music or gospel and how to balance it all while living life as a christian.

Tweet had this advice to give to her daughter:

“Baby girl, speak your truth because I am…”I’m sick of it. Enough is enough. I’m tired. And it’s coming out in the music, it’s coming out in the interviews, it’s coming out. I’m not shading nobody, I’m telling my truth. Church has been the worst. I will NOT do church anymore.”

All In Her DM?!?

Shenice decided to open up about her battles and talked about how pastors and deacons would be in her DMs (direct messages), trying to take her out and offer her drinks. Her response would be to remind them of their titles and their leadership roles and let them know that what they are doing is inappropriate.

At first Kirk Franklin’s Tuesday night seemed to be going off without a hinge. He’d just landed in Tokyo, Japan and posted a view of the city…

Little did he know though, his youngest daughter, Kennedy, was about to get brutally harassed by a female and a male, regarding her views on the topic and apparently, her looks as well. Both of the harassers say they are christians and one of them states that he’s a pastor…

They also have both have either deleted their harassing tweets after many people jumped all over them in defense of the Franklins, so we don’t know exactly what they said, but we do know that Kirk and his daughter had to get gully with ’em. Check out the exchange below…

As you can see, the family that prays together not only stays together, but can get ratchet together if need-be.  Don’t let the bible totin’ and “Smile” song fool ya’…the Franklin’s will army up and “STOMP” on whomever comes for one of their’s! We ain’t mad at that. Get em’ Kirk!

ILOSM fam’ we’re taking you to church this Sunday! This video of gospel singer, Smokie Norful, is very touching. Kim Fields a.k.a. “Tootie” couldn’t compose herself once Smokie started singing. The video featured Smokie and Kim sitting at a grand piano. And magic began.

You know how a great song can move you, especially when you’ve just gone through some things. When we think about how special life is, then simply take a breath and realize that it can be snatched up in a heartbeat, it makes us hurry and thank the the higher creator for just allowing us to be here. That’s what Smokie did for Kim. Her reaction was PRICELESS. Too bad it’s not that easy finding R&B music today that can still move a person like this Gospel song did.

I would imagine if Luther Vandross was still around, he could just sit at a piano and sing tears to our eyes.

Watch the video below and let chills race up and down your spine because you can just feel the words. Those words were “I thank you for my life. And it was only you who kept me.” He goes on to say he thanks his family and others. “If I never live to see another day, you have done enough. Some people didn’t make it this year.” That’s when Kim started to lose it.

Soul music, R&B or whatever you choose to refer to it as, was born out of spirituals, gospel music, so there has always been a connection between the soul and Gospel genres. Both art forms speak directly to the heart and soul of a person. For example, Al Green has proven that he can take us to church, but he has also proven that his soul music can connect with us when we are connecting with our significant others at night- in other words, speaking to the soul through music comes from the same place- the soul, but can be expressed in several different ways and evoke an array of emotions in its listeners. Others have that same gift such as Patti LaBelle, Aretha Frankin, to name a few. Fantasia or Mary J. Blige may be two of the closest we have to this with today’s soul R&B singers.

This video of Smokie Norful singing a gospel tune while Kim Fields listened and cried, is a great example of gospel music being a true art expression of “soul” music. Because it reaches down to your bare soul.

If you haven’t seen this video of Marvin Sapp and what he does with (sort of) Old School R&B singer from the 1990’s, check it out below. Although singer/songwriter Joe isn’t officially “Old School” his song “I Wanna Know” is definitely a 90s classic. You know the words,

“I wanna know what turns you on, So I can be all that and more. I’d like to know what makes you cry, So I can be the one who always makes you smile.” Gospel singer, Marvin Sapp caused an uproar when he sang an R&B song asking what turns a woman on (Joe’s “I Wanna Know”) at a small graduation party a few months ago. We all know that Marvin Sapp is still a man, but that didn’t fly over well with a lotta folks.

Why is it that we understand that R&B artists have a religious side, but they also have a romantic side? Why do we not accept that gospel artists, while they love their religion, also get in the mood for a lil’ affection, just like any other human being? So here’s the million dollar question: Are we putting too much of a double standard on gospel artists? Because what seems fair is that if Aretha can do it, so can Dotti Peoples. So can Marvin Sapp! What do you think ILOSM family?
