Former Destiny’s Child singer, Kelly Rowland, has just opened up some very fresh emotional wounds for her during her new interview on 60 Minutes. That wound is the sudden death of her beloved mother Doris Rowland.

The year 2014 was the most joyful and painful one for Kelly. She married the love of her life, Tim Witherspoon, on May 9, 2014 in Costa Rica. She gave birth to their son (her first and only child), Titan Jewell Witherspoon, on November 4, 2014. Then sadly, just three weeks after Titan’s birth, her Mother died suddenly from a heart attack at age 66. It was the greatest pain Kelly had ever felt in her life.

The exact date of Doris Rowland’s passing is unclear, but on December 2, 2014, Kelly released this statement at the time of her Mother’s untimely death:

“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my mother, Doris Rowland Garrison. She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman—and now mother—I am today. We humbly appreciate all the love and support and only ask for privacy during this difficult time.” -via Essence

Now, almost two and a half years later, Kelly is painfully opening up about the woman she loved more than any other woman on the face of this earth and the thing she most regretted doing to her just before she passed away. Below are a few things she discussed in her interview with 60 Minutes:

“It just came out of nowhere,” Kelly revealed about her mother’s death, stating that she was ready to “fight with her” Mom through it, but it was too late.

When asked what the last thing her Mother said to her was, that’s when Kelly became even more emotional and admitted that was one of her “greatest regrets.”

“Oh, that was really tough,” said Kelly. “That was … That’s a really tough question. It’s one of my greatest regrets. I actually…I have to carry that to my grave.”

She further revealed that she just was not ready to discuss what she did to her mother that she’ll forever regret. The host, Peter Stefanovic, respected her wishes and moved on.

Kelly then went on to explain how she was by her Mother’s side at the time of her death and how her Mom’s passing engulfs her thoughts every single day of her life, understandably so.

Via News.com: Rowland said the loss of her mother was hard to face because she had just given birth to her son, and then she watched her mother die. “I just watched my son come into this world, and I watched her go,” she recalled. “Like, literally watched her go. I remember when they pulled the plug,” she said as she choked back tears. She then went on to say that “life is such a beautiful, cruel thing”. “There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about her,” she said.

KELLY ON HER PAST JEALOUSY OF  BEYONCE’

As many Destiny’s Child fans know, a few years ago, Kelly confessed in her music that she went threw a period of time where she was extremely jealous of her former group member, Beyonce’. She has since explained where that jealousy came from:

“I wouldn’t say it was jealousy, I was happy for her but I was wondering why things weren’t igniting for me the way I wanted them to in my head.”

Kelly said that she let Beyonce hear the song first and that they both “shed a tear” at the time. That was Beyonce’s first time learning how Kelly actually felt about her and the mega success she was having in comparison to her own.

We applaud Kelly for being so transparent about her emotions. Her story reminds all of us that because we never know when our’s nor our loved ones’ last breathe may be, it’s imperative that we do everything in our power to live life to the fullest and most importantly, tell those we love that we love them, honor them, and appreciate them for all that they are, every chance we get.

Destiny’s Child is one of the greatest groups to ever create music, male or female. To this day their timeless catalog of hits can set off any mood ranging from chilling with a nice glass of wine or turning up when it’s party time. And though the lineup changed over the years two of the main members have always been singers/best friends Kelly Rowland and Beyonce Knowles-Carter. They’ve both accomplished so much over their twenty plus year careers, which started when they were both young girls in Houston, Texas. However Kelly has had to deal with comparisons to Beyonce for years. And though she normally remains quiet, she is speaking up on how she truly feels.

Success And Friendship

Beyonce and Kelly have been friends since childhood and began performing together under the name Girls Tyme when they were teenagers. After the first version of the group formed they eventually settled on the name Destiny’s Child and rose to international superstardom. Now as individual artists both Kelly and Beyonce have achieved great success, though many tend to think of Destiny’s Child as Beyonce’ featuring Kelly and Michelle as opposed to an entire group. In a 2016 interview during a segment on Chicago WGN-TV while Kelly was referring to a project she was working on for BET Chasing Destiny questions began to refer to Beyonce’s now iconic release Lemonade. And although her response was polite it’s clear Kelly wasn’t there for any of it. Constantly being reminded of your friend’s success while you’re trying to establish your own thing must be annoying. However, Kelly has found a way to deal with it.

Hot New Hip Hop reports in 2016 Kelly and director/choreographer Frank Gatson Jr. created and starred in the short-lived BET series Chasing Destiny, hopeful to find the next big thing in music by auditioning hundreds of women to become a girl group. After waves of talented ladies applied the group was whittled down to five members.

Brienna, Kristal, Gabby, Ashly & Shyann, better known by their collective name June’s Diary, have been navigating the waters of the industry without Kelly as their guide, yet they admit it’s been that way for quite some time now.

Destiny Child’s singer-turned gospel artist, Michelle Williams, has had somewhat of a ‘Cinderella story,’ in regards to her music career…or so it seemed. When Michelle joined Destiny’s Child in early 2000, she went from literal obscurity, to mega-superstar quicker than we can say “I’m a survivor” twice. That’s because when Michelle (along with Farrah Franklin) replaced LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett- after Beyonce’s dad/DC’s then manager kicked them out- she joined an already superstar R&B group. She’d become thrust into the spotlight and in many ways, the shadows. of the already known Beyonce’ Knowles and Kelly Rowland. She was also in the lingering ‘shadows’ of LaTavia and LeToya.

Even though her new role was a major weight to carry, Michelle didn’t fold under the pressure and was ultimately able to carve her own space out within the group.

Tens of millions of records and several years later, Michelle has just gone into further detail of the suicidal thoughts (which she originally revealed a few years ago) in her October 18th (2017) co-hosting gig on The Talk daytime talk show. She laid it all out about why she’s now decided to speak on the suicidal tendencies she had when Destiny’s Child was at the height of their careers.

Story in a nutshell: Michelle was severely depressed ever since the age of “13 to 15”; Beyonce’s dad, Matthew Knowles, used to try to help her, but didn’t quite understand what was wrong with her….neither did she; Her depression stemmed from some type of trauma she says she endured as a child; Now she’s on a mission to “normalize” mental illness.

“I think at the age of 25, had I had a name to what I was feeling at the time, I would have disclosed that, ‘I’ve been suffering from depression,'” Williams told The Talk co-hosts. “I didn’t know until I was in my 30s what was going on. I just thought it was growing pains. I just thought, ‘I’m turning into a woman.’ So I’ve been suffering since the age between 13 and 15. Like I said, at that age, I didn’t know what to call it.”

Matthew Knowles Had Tough Time Understanding Her Depression

Michelle on what Matthew Knowles used to tell her to get her to snap out of it:

“I’m in one of the top-selling female groups of all time, suffering with depression. And when I disclosed it to our manager at the time, bless his heart, he was like, ‘Y’all just signed a multi-million dollar deal, you’re about to go on tour, what do you have to be depressed about?’ So I was like, ‘Maybe I’m just tired.'”

She also said that although Matthew didn’t understand why she was appearing to be so “ungrateful” about all her blessings, with the success of the group, his intentions were good. So she in no way blames him for his misunderstanding.

What Caused Her Depression?

When asked what caused her depression, Michelle said:

“Well I will just say…it was some things that I had so growing up. I internalized everything, I didn’t have an outlet…”

In efforts to help others struggling with depression, Michelle says, “I want to normalize this mental health discussion,” by publicly demystifying the topic. After disclosing her past struggles on the show, Michelle then gave props to multiplatinum selling pop star, Demi Lovato, for recently detailing her struggles with depression and drug dependency in a new Youtube documentary.

As they stood in line, posing as fans of Rowland, they eventually got their turn to get an autograph. That’s when they flip flopped on her and started verbally attacking her as an ‘ugly person’ for rockin’ fur. Now, Kelly wasn’t wearing any fur that particular day, but they’re referring to the fur she’s rocked on a few occasions in the past. For example, the one she wore here, in December 2016…

Anywho, Kelly handled the protestors’ chanting and attacks on her character with ease for the most part, by stepping to the side and letting them voice their grievances with her love of fur. They chanted for a minute or two before Kelly got fed up and stormed past them toward either a bookstore employee, or someone from her own camp to vent about the protestors blockin’ her show.

Soon afterwards the protestors were escorted out of the building by too-slow-responder-employees who took WAY too long to make a move to shut that down. Kelly also bolted through a doorway toward the back of the store and that was that. Check out the chaotic scene below…

I’m all for free speech and everything, but two pertinent questions come to mind after seeing that video: Where in the hell was Kelly’s security? And why were protesters who clearly have a dislike for her, able to remain that dangerously close to her?

Thankfully they had no desire to do bodily harm, but rather just harm to her reputation instead.

Fans voiced their outrage on Kelly’s social media pages as well. Many stood up for Kelly and others bashed her as an ‘animal killer’:
