It’s been 8 years since Alicia Keys married her husband/music producer, Swizz Beatz. It has also been 8 years since he divorced his ex-wife and mother of his kids, Mashonda, to marry Alicia. It’s been 9 years since Mashonda publicly blasted Alicia Keys for “destroying” her family. Fast forward to today though and fans are refusing to let the “A Woman’s Worth” singer forget her past worth as her husband’s former “mistress” and Swizz is clappin’ back somethin’ serious! But get this, he’s doing so with his ex-wife, Mashonda. If you’re a tad baffled by all of this, we understand, but read on for further clarity into this love fest.

What Has Fans Riled Up

Keys has been labeled a “home wrecker” by fans for several years now. However, that backlash has simmered down in more recent years, especially after Mashonda clearly forgave her for reportedly cheating with her then husband. Therefore, the harsh reaction Keys received on Wednesday (Aug. 29) may have caught her off guard.

Swizz and Keys were married on July 31, 2010 and are currently celebrating their 8th wedding anniversary in Egypt. What was supposed to be an uplifting and joyous social media celebration, turned into an open invite for fans to throw shade at Alicia. Swizz Beatz shared a photo on Instagram of himself shielding Alicia from the hot Egypt sun with an umbrella, along with a message for men:

“Attention all men. You shouldn’t be jealous or upset if you have a queen that’s successful, smarter or better than you,” Swizz captioned. “What you should do is thank the most high or step your game up. I can’t stand to see brothers jealous of the lady they’re with, that sh*t is very weak. Ladies, keep doing you.”

That’s when everything went left for the Mr. and Mrs. all up and down social media timelines.

After Swizz saw all the chatter fans were making about Alicia Keys being a home wrecker, he responded with the quickness. Mashonda’s 2009 Open Letter Blasting Keys

To get a clear picture of just how far Mashonda, Alicia Keys, and Swizz have come in their current ‘Kum0ba-yah’ love triangle, here is part of Mashonda’s 2009 open letter to Keys:

“My concern with AK is no longer the fact that she assisted in destroying a family but that she has the audacity to make these selfish comments about love and wanting to be with someone, even after knowing their situation. How is this the same Superwoman that I sang out loud with in my truck? I ask myself sometimes. If you are reading this Alicia, let me start by saying, you know what you did. You know the role you played and you know how you contributed to the ending of my marriage. You know that I asked you to step back and let me handle my family issues. Issues that you helped to create.”

“I read your tweets tonight and I felt they were very insensitive. You have no idea how much pain I was caused because of this affair. It’s baffling to me that you don’t understand what I might have gone through with this situation. I don’t consider myself a victim anymore, I’ve learned a lot from this! I just ask you to try and be a bit more realistic and delicate to the situation, at least until my divorce is final.” -Mashonda

Mashonda and Swizz have two sons together- born in 2004 and 2006. In May 2010 they divorced and also in May 2010, Swizz and Alicia announced they were engaged and that Alicia was already four months pregnant with their first son who was born in December 2010. They had their second son in 2014.

It’s definitely understandable why Mashonda was devastated, but she has proven to be a woman of commendable character. She’s forgiven and learned to love Keys as the mother of her children’s siblings. She also loves Swizz and Alicia’s children unconditionally.

Their Tumultuous Past, Alleged Affair

Before we get to what they did for Mothers Day, we must first recap their past drama. As we previously reported, Mashonda definitely deserves her props for being a bigger than most would have been willing to, or capable of ever being. That’s because in 2009, Mashonda  put her then husband, Swizz, and his then ‘side piece,’ Alicia Keys, on full blast in an open letter.

In the open letter, Mashonda detailed how Keys and Swizz had been having an affair behind her back for approximately two years at that time. She also voiced how hurt she was that they’d do something like that to her and Swizz’s children, one of which Mashonda had just given birth to…

One look at them today and you’d never guess that Mashonda couldn’t stand Keys for ‘taking her husband’ away from her. It was a beautiful thing to see because clearly, they’ve each decided to put their unconditional love for their children first, in order to raise them in a cohesive, psychologically healthy environment.

What Mashonda & Alicia Keys Did In 2017 That No One Expected

Their Mother’s Day party wasn’t their first time having a happy family day, but usually Swizz is always present for their public outings. In 2017 though, we informed y’all of the time Mashonda and Alicia shocked everybody.

It’s A New Day For Keys & Mashonda

Fast forward to 2017 and not only have Swizz, Mashonda, and Keys buried the hatchet, they have since gone on at least one family vacation together and even taken a fam’ photo. However, their kids (Mashonda and Swizz have one together, Swizz also has two from a prior relationships and two with Keys) have always been the center of their newfound family peace. Every time the crew were seen in public together, the kids were always present. So again, what you’re about to see now is something that Mashonda deserves props for…and Alicia Keys and Swizz definitely deserve an Old School fist bump and handclap as well.

For the first time, Alicia and Mashonda were actually spotted publicly, hanging out together WITHOUT Swizz, nor their kids in the mix. That tells us that they’ve somehow found a way to truly let bygones be bygones and have become homegirls in the process. The other day, Mashonda posted a video clip online of she and Alicia partying at Kendrick Lamar’s concert in Berlin. They were in town for Swizz’s “No Comission” Art Event, and apparently, later that night they decided to have a girls-only outing. Check it out below:

In a matter of about eight years, Mashonda and Alicia Keys have gone from ‘wife vs. sidepiece’ to party buddies. Who woulda thunk it?!!
