If it’s one singer Black women love, it’s R&B crooner, Maxwell. BUT if there was one person Black women couldn’t have been more pissed off with at one point in time, it’s Maxwell. A few years ago, Maxwell was put on blast by many of his Black female fans and things got heated on Instagram after he cursed them out. Well fast forward to a few years later and Maxwell seems to have changed his tune about Black women somewhat…

WHY BLACK FEMALE FANS BLASTED MAXWELL

This photo of the two women (pictured above) is the one that sparked the backlash Maxwell caught from his Black female fans in 2013. It wasn’t just the photo of these two White women (one of whom was allegedly his woman at the time), it was the many months of Maxwell mostly posting photos of White women (and some Latina), that caused his Black female fans to finally call him out on it when he posted this photo. Here are a few comments that were left on Maxwell’s page:

“Here we go again with the white girls SMH Let’s see some Beautiful African Women”

“When he’s going to put out a new album, why he’s so fine, and…oh yeah, why the women that are often all over his Instagram photos aren’t black.”

“Ewww where are the beautiful sisters”

“No hate, but there is a lack of diversity and they are sooooooo skinny. #neverleaveoutyourcorefanbase”

“I’ve been Swallowed that pill.. For a about a month now you will not see him with NO women of color and this girl has her legs wide open?? Oh well to each his own SMH”

Yeah, they called Maxwell out real good one that one, BUT he responded with a VENGEANCE…

MAXWELL CLAPPED BACK AT BLACK FEMALE FANS & IT GOT UGLY

After Maxwell got wind of what his Black female fans were saying about his choosing to post only White and Latina women on his Instagram, although his fan base is mostly made up of Black woman, here’s how Maxwell responded to them:

“Sick of some of you chiming in on my friends and insulting them with racists comments. You know nothing you assume everything and you should know better and worship is for GOD not me so sit down”

“I don’t give a f**k, I’m putting ever[y] type [of] girl in my Instagram go f**k yourself if you’re a racist a**hole!!!!”

So after calling his Black women ‘racists a$$holes,’ you can imagine that didn’t go over too well for the brotha. We’re assuming that’s why he eventually did what he did next…

After all the backlash he caught, Maxwell deleted the many photos of the White women that he often flooded his Instagram page with and has now mixed things up a bit. At that time, he’s added photos, such as the one you see above with the caption: “roses are red and chocolate is you,” as a way to show that he has love for Black women and their beauty as well. He still shows love for White women on his page also, but he probably couldn’t stand the heat, so he got outta the kitchen and decided to balance out the women he pays homage to. Beauty comes in all races, so it’s good to see that Maxwell eventually listened to the messages behind his fans’ frustration.

After Major Backlash, Maxwell Defends His Celebrity Girlfriend Against Haters

After we announced that Maxwell (43) was dating a celebrity whom many of us know and that he had been doing so for at least the past three years or so, inquiring minds not only wanted to know who, but they had a lot of opinions about it as well.

In case you missed our announcement on Sunday (5-7-17), Maxwell is dating former 106 & Park host, Julissa Bermudez (33). They attended VH-1’s Dear Mama event together and cozied up on the purple carpet for photos. Although he and Julissa have stepped out in public together a few times before, most people missed that they were dating. However, it wasn’t until Monday that Maxwell had gotten so much heat about his love life, that he decided to take to his social media pages to speak out in he and Julissa’s defense against his naysayers for the first time ever.

The Backlash

Because Maxwell is usually super private, many had been drawing their own conclusions about his sexuality for years. Being that he’s very rarely (if ever) been seen with a ‘girlfriend’ on his arm in public, the sexual conclusions by some if his fans was understandable. Therefore after they found out he was dating Julissa, many of his female fans voiced they’d believed he was gay for years and sighed a collective sigh of relief when they learned he wasn’t. Not sure why, but it could be because if he was gay, it kind of kills the sensual fantasy within his music…for women.

Secondly, he caught a lot of flack over his choice in a woman- some felt that he should have chosen a more ‘A-list celeb,’ or something; while others didn’t like that he was dating a Latina woman because he is a Black man.

Maxwell’s Message To Naysayers

Although Maxwell was brushing the flack off his shoulders, it wasn’t until the race card came into play that he got offended by it. Maxwell is Puerto Rican and Haitian; Julissa is Dominican. Maxwell took to Instagram and used the flags of Haiti and the Dominican Republic to address the hate:

He even jumped in his comment section to shut down and/or thank those who were being respectful of his love for his lady, Julissa:

By the way, if you’re not fully aware of why their Haitian/Dominican Republic heritage was viewed as a clash by some, here are two commenters who gave better insight into that:

All in all, we’re happy Maxwell and Julissa have found true love in each other. It must be really serious to have brought the ever-reclusive Maxwell out of love-life obscurity (if that’s even a thing). Wonder if wedding bells and baby bottles will be next though…Hmmm…

Whaaat? Maxwell & His Famous Girlfriend Spotted On Red Carpet In Rare Appearance

Okay family, many of us have probably been living under a rock when it comes to Maxwell’s celebrity status relationship with a woman most of us know already. If you’re like some of us, here at ILOSM, you probably were under the impression that Maxwell was just as single today, as he seemingly has been known to be for much of his career- at least as far as the public knows.

Clearly the man has had relationships throughout the years, but the thing that makes this a shocker for his fans is that he’s very private about his personal life. So when he stepped onto VH-1’s red carpet- which they are actually calling their ‘purple carpet’ this year- for their upcoming Dear Mama special with the love of his life on his arm, the gasps heard around the web were understandable.

Meet Maxwell’s Girlfriend

The woman he’s dating is none other than Julissa Bermudez. Remember her? She was the very next host of 106 & Park after AJ and Free made their abrupt exit in 2005. Radio personality, Big Tigger (former host of Rap City), was Julissa’s co-host for a while on 106 and after that, she became a BET personality for several other ventures.

Julissa also starred in her own reality TV show with her best friend, The Real co-host/ex 3LW singer, Adrienne Bailon. Their show was titled Empire Girls: Julissa and Adrienne and aired in 2012.

This Isn’t Their First Red Carpet…Last One Was Overshadowed…

Well, it turns out that reality TV and TV hosting isn’t her only claim to fame because unbeknownst to many, Julissa and Maxwell have been together since at least 2014 and word on the o0ld school curb is hat they are madly in love. Their ten year age difference ain’t nothing but a number either- Maxwell, 43, loves his 33 year old Dominican queen.

This VH-1 event isn’t the first red carpet they touched. They appeared last year (2016 on BET’s red carpet together for the BET Awards, but I think that flew right over folks heads too, because that was the same year our girl, Toni Braxton, showed up on BET’s red carpet with Mr. ‘Put Some Respeck On My Name’ a.k.a. Cash Money Records owner, Birman, and became the focus of memes and blogs everywhere at that time…

Well now, Maxwell and Julissa are stealing the red carpet shine and we’re happy that they’re happy.

Julissa’s Other Celebrity Relationship

This is Julissa’s second public relationship as far as we know. From 2005 to 2008 she was in a serious relationship with former NFL player, Larry Johnson. It was widely reported that their relationship was pretty rocky and in 2008, they called off their engagement. When Julissa ran into Larry during the filming of an episode of Empire Girls in 2012, she was reduced to tears after he told her he was happily in love with the mother of his then new child and had finally stopped drinking- something Julissa had long hoped he’d do.

However, as you can see from these lovey-dovey pics of she and Maxwell though, there are no more tears she’s crying…unless they are truly tears of joy, because from the looks of it, this couple has been genuinely happy for years now.

Laaaaawd! Maxwell is apparently all over social media cuttin’ up about Black History Month and Black women, and guess what? Yep you guessed it, Black people are NOT trying to hear that. So here’s why Maxwell is now a trending topic for all the wrong reasons…

It seems as though he has done some type of quick post and delete tweets/clap backs/direct messages on Twitter, but some people have been quickly taking screenshots of his tweets faster than he was able to delete them.

Many are offended because ‘Mr. Spread Your Wings’ has been spreading his viewpoints that appear to downplay certain aspects of Black history. The thing that got folks even more heated, is that Maxwell allegedly called a Black woman a “bit*h” on Twitter, after she expressed her outrage about his Black history posts, by saying his last album “went double paper clip.” Here’s what we’ve gathered so far:

Here’s Why Janelle Monae, Alicia Keys& Maxwell Had Many CRYING At Women’s March

As millions around the country march as one voice in the “Women’s March,” protesting Donald Trump’s promise to “Make America great again,” by taking away several rights of many, we can now add Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, and Maxwell to that massive voice.

The R&B stars touched the crowd with their words and their performances. But what REALLY is gonna have you crying is when you see Janelle and Jidenna perform with the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Jordan Davis, and another young man (we weren’t able to make out from the video, our sincerest apologies to his mother for that) who, like the aforementioned brothas, was also unjustly murdered by police; as well as a member of the LGBT community who represented several LGBT men and women who have been murdered in hate crimes simply because of their sexuality. It was extremely emotional and powerful at the same time. Check out the videos below…

While rockin’ a “Fem the Future” sweatshirt, Janelle Monae gave the crowd of many women (and men) an anti-Trump policies pep talk, by telling them this:

“It was a woman who gave us Martin Luther King. It was a woman who gave us Malcolm X. And according to the bible, it was a woman who gave us Jesus.” […] “The things that are happening from Washington to even…will be hidden no more. […] We will not remain hidden figures, we have names, we are complete human beings and they cannot police us, so get off our areolas. Get off our vaginas…we birthed this nation and we can un-birth this nation if we choose,” Janelle stated with conviction.

Janelle Monae then brought out rapper/singer, Jidenna, and performed a powerful rendition of her song, “Hell You Talmbout” that left not one dry eye in the crowd. Why? Because that’s when she brought the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Jordan Davis and others on stage to participate in the song with her. It was extremely emotional, but very powerful to see those mothers fight through pain to uplift their babies; as well as to see the transgender woman fight through her pain to uplift members of the LGBT community who were murdered victims of hate crimes.

ALICIA KEYS: “NO HATE, NO BIGOTRY!”

Alicia Keys stepped on stage to to encourage thE crowd by reciting the late Dr. Maya Angelou’s poem, “And Still I Rise” and she also added further encouragement to keep fighting against any oppression Trump attempts to enforce, by telling the marchers “We want the best for all Americans — no hate, no bigotry, no Muslim registry.” Afterwards Keys got it lit with her song “Girl On Fire.”

WTH?!?!? Maxwell Is Hard To Sing, But THIS Cashier Is About To Shock You! 😱

You never know where you’ll find talent. Unexpectedly, sometimes, people can shock you into a state of belief. That’s what this Dollar General cashier has done to millions.

This is definitely an ear-grabber if you’ve never heard one. The video was shared by rapper Boosie Badazz, and so far, it’s accumulated over 6 million views — and it’s still climbing fast.

The thing is this: no one knows this guy’s name, other than those in Lansing.

There was little information shared about this songbird. So, the only thing we know is that he could easy sub-in for Maxwell, and he works at Dollar General in Lansing, Michigan, on “MLK” across from “Silverstone.”

At least, that’s what the camerawoman shared about it. You can watch the video for yourself below.

And, of course, the man is singing Maxwell’s “Ascension.”

Many people know this song as “Don’t Ever Wonder,” for good reason. Excuse me if I’m wrong, but — according to Metro Lyrics — the words don’t mention “ascension” once within the song.

Whatever the case, it’s obvious that someone needs to “ascend” into that Lansing Dollar General and offer this man a deal.

That’s raw talent and voice — no computer or audio manipulation…or Autotune.

If he can sound that good on a cell phone microphone — and you know they’re the worst — could you imagine his clarity in a studio?

When Opportunity Strikes

When it’s time to shine, you can’t be afraid to give it your all. You never know who people know or who’s going to stumble upon the video.

As you can see, Boosie just happened to share it, and this man’s voice has been hear nearly 7 million times within the last 24 hours!

That’s one way to become an Internet sensation.

Surely, this man didn’t expect to come to work and have 7 million people listen to him.

Hopefully, something good comes out of this experience. He doesn’t have this voice for nothing, right?

“Ascension” is an awesome song on which to showcase his ability. It’s not an easy song to cover. And, it’s not a song you’d want to bomb, given its reputation.

In 1997, Maxwell actually won a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul single for the song.

While it’s known that Blacks are usually key performers of neo-soul music, sometimes, you’ll find other ethnicities that have channeled into their inner grooves and can “wow!” you just as much as the next artist.
