Maya Angelou married Paul Du Feu. He was a British construction worker, a painter, and once did a nude centerfold for the British Cosmopolitan magazine back in the day. ON HOW MAYA MET PAUL

When the world lost prolific poet and scholar Dr. Maya Angelou it became a void that’s still felt to this day. One of her closest friends, Oprah Winfrey, offered a tribute to Dr. Angelou on Thursday, which would have been her 91st birthday. Though many were moved by her sentiment one follower tried to correct Oprah for referring to Dr. Angelou as ‘Maya’. And although Oprah’s busy, she had some time for a quick, yet classy, clap back.

Oprah Posts A Touching Poem

Oprah took to Instagram to have everyone in their feelings by posting her favorite photo with Dr. Angelou captioned with a poem that best explained how she felt about her.

While most praised Oprah for her sentiment one follower decided to chime in by chastising her for not respectfully using Ms. Angelou instead of Maya. In a comment that comes straight at Oprah’s neck the user typed:

“Ms. Angelou to you Oprah. You have no license to call her Maya. She will always be Ms. Angelou.”

What his intentions were in leaving the comment are unclear, however common sense wasn’t a part of the equation. Because Oprah, who probably doesn’t address these comments, surprisingly replied.

The late, iconic, Dr. Maya Angelou, has another accolade to add to her monumental list of groundbreaking accomplishments. This one comes to her posthumously and it’s the record breaking sale of on of her Harlem brownstone residence, which by the way, she purchased after her good friends Ashford & Simpson recommended she buy it in 2002. Angelou trusted Nick and Valerie’s opinions so much, that she bought the home on their word alone, before ever laying her eyes on the property.

Ms. Angelou’s Harlem home has just been sold for a whopping $4.75 MILLION, breaking the NY record for the most expensive single-family home ever sold in the history of Harlem.

Somebody wanted a piece of the “Phenomenal Woman’s” powerful legacy really bad and I can’t say that I blame ’em because after all, living among the legacy of such greatness, like Dr. Angelou’s, is probably priceless. Check out the rest of the details about Maya Angelou’s home below:

Via Page Six: Maya Angelou’s Harlem brownstone has sold for $4,075,000 — or $1,138.58 per square foot. That’s a colossal price for a Harlem residential property, according to listing agent Valon Nikci of Link NY Realty. The property hit the market in January asking $5.1 million.

“The home is a record breaker, being the most expensive single-family home per square foot sold in Harlem,” Nikci says.

The 20-foot-wide house on West 120th Street was the poet and civil rights activist’s New York City home for almost a decade, although her principal residence was in Winston-Salem, NC.

She eventually transformed the property into a five-bedroom, five-bathroom stunner with an 800-square-foot kitchen.

In the Harlem home, the Times reports, Angelou “entertained scores of friends like Oprah Winfrey and Cicely Tyson with dance parties and competitive Boggle games and whipped up her signature smothered chicken.”

I’m sure Oprah would give just about anything to have one last taste of that smothered chicken from Ms. Angelou, whom she considered to be a like her second mother and very good friend of her’s.
