Talk show legend, Montel Williams, has many things to be grateful for these days. He’s grateful for his continued recovery progress, following a severe accident at his local gym recently. He’s even more grateful for his daughter, Maressa Williams, winning her battle against cancer…TWICE. Now she’s using her experience to help other people.

Daughter’s Diagnosis

Maressa is now 34 years old, but at the age of 24, she received the most horrifying shock of her life- that she was diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkins Lymphoma, which is a type of blood cancer. She underwent chemotherapy and went into remission, only for the cancer to return just a few months later. After her second wave of chemotherapy treatments, she’s been in remission ever since. However, in a prior Every Day Health article, and also in an interview she and Montel did on “The Dr. Oz Show,” Maressa shared what she’s been going through.
Dr. Oz interview…

Maressa Williams: “Never in a million years did I think I’d be diagnosed with cancer. … At the age of 24, I considered myself a strong person — not infallible or invincible but something very close to it. … Maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle wasn’t just a passion, it came as second nature to me. I watched everything I ate and planned out meals in advance. I took pride in my fitness and was strict about my workout regimen. I participated in bodybuilding competitions in addition to being a full-time nursing student at the Trident Technical College in North Charleston, S.C.” -via Everyday Health

In 2013, she was diagnosed with the disease, after a chance visit to her chiropractor, following a fall she’d had. After doing a standard MRI, it was then that her chiropracter discovered enlarged lymph nodes in her upper body area. From there, further biopsies and tests followed, ultimately returning the diagnosis neither she, nor her parents were expecting:

MW: “When I was first diagnosed, I was angry. I felt sick. I felt vulnerable and lost. I switched back and forth between laughter and tears, simultaneously feeling devastated, hopeful, and confused. Fortunately, both of my parents were with me in the office when I heard the news. We were all in tears and my dad (Montel Williams) kept repeating, almost as a mantra, that I wouldn’t be alone in getting through this and that they would support me throughout the whole process.” -via EH

What Maressa Williams Is Doing To Help Others

Maressa and her dad revealed that soon after she was diagnosed, she felt the need to want to help others in her position, or help those who are not, become aware of how to possibly prevent it and/or look for warning signs.

MW: “From my research, I also found that there was a high prevalence of lymphoma among adolescents and young adults, a fact that I thought required urgent attention from people in my age group and the larger public. To help raise awareness, I immediately threw myself into blogging for my father’s website and Dr. Oz’s blog on my experiences going through treatments. I also began working with the Lymphoma Research Foundation, the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to funding innovative lymphoma research, to do my small part in helping eradicate the disease.”

In 2018, Maressa Williams, a devoted philanthropist, also joined the nonprofit global marketplace, iCause, to further help connect others and raise financial backing for many causes that affect society on every level, including health.

Pretty sure Montel Williams couldn’t be more proud of his baby. Maressa, keep fighting queen!

He’s been in the sport for approximately nine years and has beat down some tough opponents in the process. [Montel Jr.]: “… My priority is not making money or being sponsored, just do, destroy whatever warm body they put in front of me.”

Everything about MMA is a challenge and having sponsors will only hinder his focus. In order to be successful in this field Williams Jr. shares his mission.

According to Daily Mail during the 34th Annual Ellis Island Medal of Honors on Saturday, May 11, Montel, 62, was asked what he thought about Wendy’s, 54, hard times.

Instead of offering any sort of sympathy, Montel fired a few shots at his fellow host for putting down her guests for years during a chat with Us Weekly.

Montel’s Wake-Up Call:

It has been reported that Williams suffered a rare cerebellar hemorrhagic stroke. The health crisis reportedly happened after an intense workout. The stroke caused multiple bodily coordination problems leaving Williams nearly paralyzed on one side of his body. Although Williams is doing much better now, he’s speaking out about his experience in hopes of helping others. During a recent interview, he explained how the health scare has changed his life.

“This gave me a wake-up call in a lot of ways,” Williams said. He admitted that he was pushing himself beyond unrealistic limits in hopes of achieving the physical look he had when he was much younger.

While it’s definitely important to stay on top of your health, Williams explained why it’s much more important to just be alive. The stroke made Williams realize that he needs to slow down a bit.

“I was pushing way harder than I should [have been] pushing, chasing this weird body ideal that I had when I was a kid. A very close doctor friend of mine said to me, ‘So what? So you can be the best-looking f—— corpse in the morgue? What good does that do you?’ And it took those words and this stroke to set in. I said, ‘I gotta stop.’”

Paralyzed and Terrified:

Since June, Williams has been making progress during the recovery process, but when he had the stroke, life changed drastically. He went on to share how terrifying the experience was. But despite major setback, he was determined to move forward.

“I could barely talk,” he remembers. “I couldn’t sit up. I couldn’t stand. I was almost paralyzed, it was terrifying. But I remember telling myself, ‘You’re not dying. You’re not quitting. You’re going to fight this. You’re going to get this back.’”

Ahead of the Game:

Williams isn’t at 100% just yet, but he’s revealed he’s ahead of the recovery timeline and he’s already setting goals for when he bounces back. After barely being able to walk, sit up, or stand, Williams has made a complete turnaround and he’s working hard to go snowboarding in the near future.

“I’m way ahead of the rehab game right now. My physical therapist, Paul Reilly, asked early on, ‘What do you want to get out of this?’ And I said, ‘I’d love to snowboard again this year.’ So we set that goal and we’re almost there. I really need another month before I’m beyond that acute phase of having a stroke. But I made it back. I got it back. And I probably will snowboard in January.”

Snowboarding may seem like a major leap considering all he’s been through this year, but it looks like he’s definitely up for the challenge. Best of luck to Montel Williams during his recovery.

Legendary ex talk show host, Montel Williams, has never been one to mince his words, nor sugarcoat his opinion. It doesn’t matter if he’s talking about an everyday citizen or the President of the ‘free world’ and his White House Chief of Staff.

That’s exactly what Montel has just done when he was stopped by TMZ early Wednesday at the LAX airport. As Montel was waiting on his car, he was asked his thoughts on the ridiculously high level of disrespect Donald Trump has shown to slain Sergeant La David Johnson’s widow, Meyshia Johnson. That’s when Montel- who’s a military veteran too- didn’t hesitate to go off about not only Trump’s insensitive phone call to Myeshia, but also the blatant lie Trump told on Rep. Frederica Wilson & Myeshia regarding the matter. He also addressed the public bashing that Trump and Gen. John Kelly did to Congresswoman Wilson, even though she was the one telling the truth.

Montel gave an example on how he’d handle a situation like that, then became increasingly pissed off about Trump and Kelly:

“If I said something to you right now and I really believed it in my heart…But if I offended you, I don’t have a right to tell you how to feel. You have a right to be offended. If you are offended, as a man, I should step up to the plate and apologize. […] Be a man! … Call that woman and apologize! Generals don’t call a 24 year old lady who have a baby inside, two babies on her knee, husband DEAD in a casket that hasn’t seen and say *beating his chest* “Rah-rah!!” Calm it down…all you have to do is say, ‘It’s a misconception, I apologize, Im sorry.”

In Case You Missed It

In case y’all missed it, Rep. Wilson publicly blasted Trump after she heard him insensitively tell Myeshia her husband ‘knew what he signed up for. But I guess it still hurts’ during his condolence call to Mrs. Johnson.

Trump then took to Twitter to blast Wilson, calling her a liar and flat out denying he said those words to Myeshia.

La David’s step-mother later confirmed, in a statement to the press, that Rep. Wilson is correct, Trump “disrespected” her son and their family with that insensitive comment to Myeshia.

Trump then goes silent and Gen. Kelly shocks many, by stepping in and picking up the slack for Trump, but using his own son’s 2010 military death in Afghanistan to do so. In a rare press briefing, Kelly was clearly emotional about his son’s death, understandably so.

However, many were surprised that he’d allowed Trump to have him go out and use the death of his son to back up a lie and further bash Rep. Wilson for telling the truth. During Kelly’s speech, he actually confirmed that Trump did in fact say what Rep. Wilson said he did, but it was taken outta context. But then he tried to deflect the attention away from Trump’s lie and insensitivity with this:

“I was stunned when I came to work yesterday morning, and broken-hearted at what I saw a member of Congress doing. […] “A member of Congress who listened in on a phone call from the president of the United States to a young wife, and in his way tried to express that opinion.”

Kelly went on to say that his close friend told him something similar to what Trump told Myeshia, when his son died. But in that same press briefing, Kelly changed course and attempted to discredit Rep. Wilson on some unrelated political matter, painting her as a hypocrite. However, CBS confirmed that Sun-Sentinal researched Kelly’s claims against Wilson and proved that they were not true.

Myeshia Johnson then bravely spoke out on Good Morning America and confirmed that Trump did in fact “offend” her and make her break down crying, after telling her that her husband ‘knew what he signed up for… but I guess it still hurts anyway.’

Trump immediately took his fingers back to Twitter and called Myeshia a liar, by flat-out denying what his chief of staff had already confirmed he’d said to Myeshia as well.

So the point that Montel Williams made regarding Trump and Gen. Kelly are completely justifiable. If either of them have any common decency, they’d recant everything they’ve said against Rep. Wilson regarding their claims and most definitely pick up the phone and apologize to Myeshia Johnson.
