Montell Jordan had the clubs and radio bumpin’ throughout the mid 90s to early 2000s, with classic R&B joints like “This Is How We Do It,” “Get It On Tonight,” and many others. He was holding it down as the top male solo artist at Def Jam for a while and then all of sudden it seemed like he just fell off the face of the earth. Fans wondered what happened to him…and now Montell and his wife/manager, Kristin Hudson, explain what went down between them behind the scenes.

We previously covered Montell’s eventual comeback as a gospel artist, but what was unknown at that time, was that he wasn’t just singing for the Lawd, he was rejoicing for having been able to save his now-27-years-long marriage after nearly destroying it during the height of his career.

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Montell and Kristen explained how they got past the infidelities that plagued their union.

Pressures From Music Industry

Montell explained how he was pressured by music execs to pretend that Kristen was nothing more than his manager, in order to increase his marketability to his millions of female fans back in the day.

Montell: “We were told that no one’s gonna want a tall, handsome, unavailable R&B singer and that no one’s gonna respect ‘Montell’s wife.'”

Instead of being truthful to the public about their marriage Montell and Kristen had a plan:

“She was gonna stay ‘Kristen Hudson, my manager’…and I was gonna say I’m ‘married to my music,’ as opposed to being married to my wife.”

And it was that decision to lie to the public, combined with he and his wife’s constant separation – as he was toured the country and she focused on negotiating his contracts, shows, etc. – that caused Montell to fall into bed with other women, according to the Mr. and Mrs. Jordan.

That’s when Kristen said she realized that they needed to put an end to their lie and focus on their marriage. So, Montell eventually decided to drop everything involving his music career, because he could not stand the thought of losing his wife. I understand where they’re coming from, regarding how Montell ended up cheating multiple times– he was a young man getting panties thrown his way all day, everyday by beautiful women. However, I’ve also gotta call a spade a spade…it was still his choice to take that bait. Sure, the temptation for a celeb’ like 90s-era Montell Jordan was much higher than the average man gets tested. But he still could have chosen to say, “No thank you m’aam,” to the thousands of THOTS who were throwing it at him on the regular back then.

Overall though, I definitely respect Montell’s wife for sticking by her man’s side through thick and thin. I also give Montell his props for publicly sharing his past faults and his eventual redemption with the world. Wishing the Jordan’s many more years of marital bliss, because no matter what trials and tribulations they’ve faced, they’re obviously doing something right.

THE ‘KARDASHIAN CURSE’

Another singer who weighed in on Kanye’s recent meltdown was Akon, who said that he pretty much thinks there’s something called the ‘Kardashian curse’ and he probably has a point.

Think about it, almost every long term relationship the Kardashian ladies have had, have left the men in some type of disarray, or life altering situation:

Kris Jenner & Caitlyn Jenner

Formerly known as the legendary athlete, Bruce Jenner, Caitlyn Jenner had a life altering moment to say the least, when he decided to change his gender (or at least the top half of him as far as we know) after he and Kris divorced. But at least they’re happy and cordial with each other. Moving on…

Kim Kardashian and her ex-husband/NBA player

Kris became the laughing stock of the internet for a minute after he married Kim K. in 2011 and she wanted a divorce 73 days after later. He reportedly felt like she just used him for publicity and kicked him to the curb.

Kim K. and Reggie Bush

Reggie had a brief stint where he was reportedly losing it over Kim after they split. A recording of him even surfaced when he called Kim and shouted “You’re fuckin’ driving me crazy” in reaction to their then ‘break’ from their relationship and hime trying to allegedly patch it back up.

It’s no secret Lamar didn’t wanna divorce Khloe and ultimately he ended up overdosing and damn near losing his life in 2015. Many say he spiraled out of control because Khloe left him.

A transvestite put him on blast, claiming he was sexing her, he’s been getting backlash on line for repeated money troubles, and he’s just gotten clobbered for allegedly dating Kylie while she was a minor (17) and he was 26. They’re a year older now, so she’s legal.

“This is How We Do It” singer, Montell Jordan, and former NBA baller (the husband of  Basketball Wives of L.A. star, Jackie Christie), Doug Christie, have a much deeper connection that most people never knew about.

Aside from them both being married to their wives since the 90s, they also spent a lot of time together during their college years. A few years ago Montell and Jackie revealed, at the Kings’ FlashBackFriday basketball game, details about what their real connection was. Here’s what was reported via NBA.com:

‘What most people don’t know that both of these men used to share one dorm room back in their college days.

During their time at Pepperdine University, a private college in scenic Malibu, CA, Christie and Jordan were roommates while in the early stages of their respective careers.

Christie was a standout guard on the Pepperdine basketball team before being drafted in the first round of the 1992 NBA Draft. Jordan, however, served a different role on the team.

“I was tall but couldn’t play ball,” Jordan said following his halftime performance at the Kings first #FlashbackFriday game.

Jordan was one of the equipment managers on the team, where he worked in something he called “the cage” washing the team’s uniforms and other clothing. Despite the disparity in their roles, Jordan said that being roommates with Christie resulted in some “pretty cool times together in college”.

When not helping out the basketball team, Jordan was back in his room working on his budding music career.

“I’d come back in the room and [Montell] would have sheets hanging up on the walls to deaden the sound,” Christie recalled about his former roomie. “He’d be singing and doing his thing and yeah, we had a lot of fun.”

While they eventually went their separate ways after college, Doug and Montell kept in touch a bit in the following years.

“When his song first came out, “This Is How We Do It”, I took my daughter to the concert,” said Christie. “He signed a $100 bill and for her and I framed it up for her.”

“Really our careers kind of took off at the same time,” said Jordan. “As [Christie] was drafted and going into the NBA, about a year or two later, I would end up signing to Def Jam Records. While I had the number one record in the nation he was playing for the Sacramento Kings.”

Luckily for Montell Jordan, he had a backup plan as a successful singer, because it sounds like he had two left feet on the basketball court. It’s all good though and it’s funny how destiny works sometimes. By the way, Montell is a Christian rapper now, so be on the lookout for his upcoming music.
