Did you know that iconic actor, Morgan Freeman, has a son who is also an actor? Many fans are unaware of this father-son duo in Hollywood.

Meet Alfonso Freeman, born in September 1959, in Los Angeles, California. Like his pops, he’s a hella talented actor who has made a name for himself in the film industry.

Alfonso’s journey into acting was not an easy one though. Despite having a famous father, he wanted to establish his own identity and not ride on his pops’ coattails. So instead, Alfonso initially studied as an art major at California State University, Long Beach, but later decided to follow his passion for acting.

Interestingly, word on the Old School curb is that Alfonso did not meet his father in person until the mid-1980s, when Morgan Freeman was filming the television mini-series, “The Atlanta Child Murders.”

Alfonso’s career took off when he joined the cast of his dad’s films. In 1994, he had a minor role in the critically acclaimed movie “The Shawshank Redemption,” which won multiple Academy Awards. He also appeared in other notable films like “Seven,” “Nurse Betty,” and “The Bucket List,” all of which starred Morgan Freeman.

Apart from his work in films, Alfonso Freeman has done his thing in guest roles for various television series, including “The West Wing,” “ER,” and “The Practice.” He has proven his versatility as an artist by participating in theater productions and showcasing his talent as a gospel singer.”

In a prior interview, Alfonso Freeman discussed the challenges he faced in auditions due to his famous last name. He stressed the importance of being recognized for his own talent, rather than solely as ‘Morgan Freeman’s son.’ He also talked about his role in the film “Ten ‘Til Noon,” where he played one of the assassins and the difficulties of independent filmmaking.

Alfonso Freeman’s career has been impressive, and he continues to make his mark in the industry. While many may not be aware of his relationship to Morgan Freeman, Alfonso is determined to get his shine on, on his own; and carve out his own path in his own right.

The judge handed down the decision Monday in NYC. Lamar Davenport killed E’Dena Hines back in August 2015 outside of the couple’s NYC apartment. Davenport was acquitted of second degree murder. His lawyer argued Davenport was high on PCP when he repeatedly stabbed Hines while screaming, “I love you. I always loved you. God would have wanted this.” The judge agreed Davenport wasn’t acting with malice, he was just messed up on drugs. via TMZ

Lamar Davenport is now facing up to 25 years in prison and the sentence will be determined soon.

Many would argue that he should be serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole…and I agree. What Davenport did to E’Dena Hines was one the most heinous acts of brutality ever, yet the fact that he was high as as kite at the time of the crime, worked in his favor.

True, if Davenport was on PCP, he was not in his right state of mind, but he reportedly willingly took PCP and that he also does not have a mental disorder. Therefore, in my opinion, if one chooses to voluntarily take a substance that may cause them to commit murder, then they, too, should be held responsible for any actions they took while under the influence of said drug…just sayin.’

Pretty sure Morgan Freeman was also hoping that justice fell in his favor and blocked E’Dena’s biological/reportedly absentee father, Edward Lee Hines, from getting one red cent of her inheritance. Freeman took Edward to court because Edward reportedly decided to suddenly resurface after E’Dena’s death, to claim $791,000.00 of inheritance money that Freeman set up for E’Dena in a trust fund. Here’s what Morgan told the courts, according to NY Post:

Via NY Post: “…From the time that E’Dena was approximately three and a half years old and until the Thanksgiving before her death, E’Dena met with Edward Lee Hines only one or two times. … Throughout E’Dena’s entire lifetime, my daughter Deena Adair and I were the primary sources of support for E’Dena financially, emotionally, mentally and physically.”

Murder Trial Set To Begin

Below are the details that have just been reported, regarding the murder trial for the death of the granddaughter Morgan Freeman was extremely close to and helped to raise like she was his own child. Her killer may stand a chance of getting a lighter sentence, instead of a sentence E’Dena’s loved ones are probably hoping for, here’s why:

Via NY Daily News: The murder trial of the man accused of killing actor Morgan Freeman’s granddaughter will begin next week. Lamar Davenport is charged with stabbing E’Dena Hines, 33, outside their Washington Heights home on Aug. 15, 2016. The 33-year-old claims he was high on a bad batch of PCP when he knifed Hines 25 times on W. 162nd St. Davenport’s lawyers are expected to launch an insanity defense when opening statements begin Monday. The attorneys may point to Davenport’s rants after the crime.

Sad Murder Details Of Freeman’s Grandchild

As we previously reported, the murder of E’Dena Hines was vicious and brutal. Hines was murdered outside of her apartment, in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York, at approximately 3am.

One of the neighbors, who saw the attack from his window, called 911 and said that Davenport was stabbing Hines repeatedly, while screaming: “Get out, devils. In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out!”

Daily Mail reported that ‘Davenport, an aspiring actor with a criminal record and a history of drug abuse, was said to be reciting Bible verses before being dragged from his girlfriend’s body – which had 16 stab wounds. He was taken to the New York’s Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center to undergo psychological testing before he was questioned by police.’

Edena Hines was the 33 year old biological granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, whom he was married to from 1967 to 1979. He later married his second wife Myrna Colley-Lee in 1984 and he and Colley-Lee eventually adopted his step-granddaughter, E’Dena and raised her as their own.

Freeman Paid Homage To Murdered Granddaughter

At the time of E’Dena’s death, Morgan Freeman was extremely distraught, understandably so, and he issued a statement via People, honoring his grandchild:

“The world will never know her artistry in talent, and how much she had to offer,” he said. “Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. … Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”

For instance we’ve seen the 2014 Annie remake starring African American actress, Quvenzhané Wallis, as the ‘orphan’ role that was previously portrayed as a Caucasian red head little girl; or Walt Disney’s adaption of The Frog Princess with their 2009 animated film, The Princess and the Frog  where the voice of actress, Anika Rose, brought to life the Black princess, “Tiana,” a character that was previously portrayed as a blonde Caucasian princess.

However, it’s very rare that we see an actual real-life celebrity (unlike the fictional characters we just mentioned) request that they be portrayed as a race other than their own. That is the current case of the controversial software tech mogul, John McAfee- the man responsible for creating the popular McAfee computer antivirus software.

Although actor, Johnny Depp, is supposedly slated to play McAfee in his upcoming biopic, McAfee actually wants the legendary Morgan Freeman to play him instead. Here’s what was reported by Newsweek:

[Johnny] Depp will play McAfee in The King of The Jungle, according to Deadline Hollywood, portraying the antivirus mogul during his controversial time in Belize. McAfee tells Newsweek that, to the best of his knowledge, the rumors that Depp will play him are true but he is yet to meet the actor. “I have been frequently compared to Hunter S. Thompson and I have seen Depp’s magnificent portrayal of Thompson,” McAfee says.

“I think Depp is as good as Javier Bardem, John Turturro, Mickey Rourke or Morgan Freeman [to play the part]. I am not joking about the latter. I pray for a time when the skin tone is not a factor in character choice. From what I know of Freeman, his character closest matches mine.”

Hmmm…not quite sure how Morgan Freeman feels about this…and his hair may be white but uh…nevermind…

Anywho, who knows? Maybe Freeman as McAfee could work…or maybe not. Anything’s possible though, if in the course of just two consecutive presidents, we’ve seen ‘hell freeze over’ twice. First a Black man (okay, ‘a biracial man’ for our politically correct readers, we mean no harm here) became President; and then a very tanned White man, who was caught in several highly publicized lies, busted on tape discussing how he uses his wealth and fame as an open invitation to randomly ‘grab women by the pu$$y,’ and has a massive Ku Klux Klan following, also ended up being elected as President. So again, anything’s possible.

By the way, in case you’re wondering why we called John McAfee controversial, it’s because he is also the tech mogul known for his life as a murder suspect on the run from U.S. authorities, after being sought after for the murder of his neighbor (in Beliz) of- American citizen- Gregory Faull, in 2013. Throughout his run, he fled his Beliz home by hiding out in jungles, faking a heart attack, and taking a camera crew along to document the ordeal. He then landed in Guatemala, where he was ultimately extradited to the U.S. for questioning in the case. However, McAfee was never charged with any connection in the death of his neighbor.

Now, at first glance it’s easy for folks to assume the worst and call Freeman a sell-out ‘Uncle Tom’ because of his statement. But after watching the entire clip from his past 60 Minutes interview, it’s understandable where Freeman’s coming from. That doesn’t mean it isn’t debatable, it just means that he backed up his point of view with valid logic and not stupidity, nor self-hating attention seeking rhetoric *coughs Stacy Dash.*Morgan Freeman had this to say about Black History Month when asked about it in the interview:

“It’s ridiculous […] What- you’re going to relegate my history to a month?”

Freeman turned the tables and then asked interviewer, Mike Wallace this:

“What do you do with yours? Which month is White History Month? […] Come on, tell me.”

After Wallace acknowledged that he was Jewish, Freeman asked him where his ‘Jewish History Month was’ to which Wallace admitted that he wouldn’t want his history confined to a month. Morgan replied:

“I don’t want one either. […] I don’t want a Black History Month. Black history is American history.”

Wallace then asks, “How are we going to get rid of racism?” and Freeman interjected and said:

“Stop talking about it. I’m going to stop calling you a white man, and I’m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You want to say,`Well, I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.’ You know what I’m saying?”

However, many would argue that although Freeman’s point is a beautiful thought-that every person should have the ability, regardless of race, to simply see the next human being as the human race- unfortunately that goal has yet to become genuinely attainable. That does NOT mean that everyone in America- White, Black, Brown, etc.- is racist simply because they see color, it just means that the fabric of America and the blood, death, dirt and sludge it was woven with, has a long ways to go before it is washed squeaky clean. Therefore causing the issue of race to be woven into the everyday lives of Americans in some form- even if we are not racist whatsoever.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH CREATOR, CARTER G. WOODSON, FELT DIFFERENTLY

Carter G. Woodson created ‘Negro History Week’ in 1926, which later grew into ‘Black History Month.’ Woodson created the African American celebration with this logic in mind:

“If a race has no history, it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated.” -Carter G. Woodson

Woodson intentionally designated ‘Negro History Week’ to coincide with the birthdays of former president Abraham Lincoln (who abolished slavery in 1865) and Frederick Douglas. That brings me back to Morgan Freeman’s opinion on Black History Month…In 1926, when Woodson created what would become this Black celebratory month, America was only about 50 years out of slavery- it was still legal to arrest (or kill) a Black man for looking a White woman in the eye while walking down the street; it was still legal for a Black person to get brutally beaten, or killed, by police simply for politely asking why they were being stopped while minding their own business. Sounds familiar? Sadly those types of injustices are still considered unspoken ‘crimes’ in America.

But again, Morgan Freeman does make a valid point as well. So the question is: Which is the best way to deal with racism in America? “Stop talking about it,” as Freeman stated? Or deal with the ugliness of it head on, to ultimately be able to get to the beauty in every human being?

Freeman told this to The Wrap regarding his crash:

“I was on my plane on the way to Texas to shoot a segment for The Story of God.

Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on take-off which caused other problems. But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch.

I cannot say the same about my plane. I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety.”

That was a really close call, and we’re so happy to hear that Morgan Freeman came out of that accident in tip top shape. This isn’t his first brush with death though, remember when he got into that horrific car accident in 2008? That too, happened in his home state of Mississipi. The car he was driving ended up flipping multiple times, leaving him with a paralyzed left hand paralyzed and broken shoulder that he says still causes him a lot of pain.

But through it all, he’s here and he’s working doing what he loves and even continuing to push through his grief after his granddaughter was murdered earlier this year.

Yeah, Freeman is the epitome of what it means to be a true fighter who never quits.

Freeman had to go to court the other day to ask a judge to block E’Dena’s biological father from inheriting the $791,000 Morgan had given E’Dena and the trust fund he had set up in her name. E’Dena had no will, so naturally her estate is to be split equally between both of her parents. The only problem is that yes, E’Dena’s mother, Deena Adair, whom is the child of Freeman’s first wife is in fact her loving parent, but Morgan Freeman is the man who basically was E’Dena’s ‘father.’

You see, E’Dena’s biological father, Edward Lee Hines, was basically like a sperm donor, because Freeman said that after Edward and her Mom divorced when she was three years old, E’Dena had only met her Dad once or twice throughout the rest of her life, and that it was instead he (Freeman) who was always there and helped to raise her, even though he and her grandmother, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, divorced in 1979. Their family remained extremely close throughout it all and Freeman said he acted as a surrogate father to E’Dena. Here’s what Morgan told the courts according to NY Post:

If Morgan Freeman’s allegations are true, we truly hope that E’Dena Hines’ biological father doesn’t get not one hot penny from E’Dena’s estate. He does not deserve it and should go somewhere and focus on how to man up to his responsibilities so that he never makes a horrible decision, like the one he made to walk away from his daughter, ever again.

E’Dena Hines’ murderer/boyfriend, Lamar Davenport, who had a history of drug abuse and several run-ins with the law, will appear in court on court on December 15 for his murder charges.

May E’Dena continue to rest in peace and may her family eventually find peace and strength in the midst of their grieving.

After Morgan Freeman’s step-granddaughter, E’Dena Hines was brutally murdered by her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport, on an NY street last week, info has been surfacing regarding their past and their relationship. In an interview with MailOnline, an ex-girlfriend of Davenport and another unnamed woman who has been friends with Davenport for 15 years gave their accounts of details they say have not been covered about Hines and Davenport in the media.

The friend said she does not excuse Davenport’s “heinous” crime, but she wants to bring to light a broader picture of both Davenport and Hines. She says that both Davenport and Hines experimented with drugs. She also said that Hine’s family tried to step in and get her away from Davenport to no avail though; While Davenport’s ex-girlfriend says that Davenport was abusive and took PCP and other drugs regularly.

Here’s what was reported:

The friend said ‘I think that they [E’Dena Hines and Lamar Davenport] were drawn together by a lot of their interests – both good and bad….

‘…When we were younger E’Dena was experimenting with drugs and I have been told that continued [with Davenport].’

Asked if this meant hard drugs like heroin or marijuana, the friend said there was…

pot and drugs ‘in the middle ground’ between that and harder stuff.

She said: ‘I think what happened it would be easy to make it seem like one person was a really evil person and one person was really good and make it very simple but with any relationship it’s never that simple especially when substances are involved, when both parties are indulging in the same way and that’s contributing to their problems.

According to the friend, who met Hines in 2004 at NYU, she was ‘magnetic’ and people would ‘gravitate towards her’.

Despite his dark side Davenport was ‘a good person who never, ever, did anything to suggest that he would be capable of this’.

She said: ‘The Lamar that I, and his friends, know is a smart, creative man who does everything and anything for his family and those he loves.’

But asked to characterize their relationship she said it was ‘volatile’ and ‘brought Lamar a great deal of stress at times’.

The arguments appear to have been frequent – and some serious.

The friend said: ‘I know that their family members have been aware of some of these arguments; that’s a sign they were pretty serious, if family members are aware of them’.

She saw Davenport a few weeks ago when he and Miss Hines were going through some troubles and she suggested to him that they break up if he was unhappy.

But he disagreed and told her: ‘I love her very much and want to be with her’.

‘There were no signs he was going to do this,’ the friend said.

‘That’s what is so difficult about this……I think it is drug related. I think that it could be a combination of being stressed with other things. He’s never seemed incapable of handling it [the drugs]’.

Davenport’s ex-girlfriend, Dominique Hadley, whom at times he was dating at the same time as E’Dena, has a slightly different picture of him. They dated off and on from 2010 to 2014:

She [said] Davenport was ‘mysterious and paranoid’ and prone to excessive drug use and heavy drinking.

Hadley said Davenport could be a good boyfriend and was good to her daughter.

But Hadley claimed there was a violent side to her ex and recalled him erupting into a drug and alcohol-addled rage at a family home, leaving her and her four-year-old…

He was obligated to return to work after taking a couple days off upon learning of E’Dena’s murder. Today (Tuesday 8-18-15) Freeman returned to work on the New York set of his comedy film, Going In Style. He looked very dejected and saddened, sometimes appearing with tears in his eyes as he pushed through his pain to perform to the best of his ability on screen.

We will continue to keep Morgan Freeman, his ex-wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw (E’Dena Hines’ biological grandmother) and their families in our thoughts and prayers.
