You’d think that after all of the wealth and fame Foxx, Davis, and Wilson acquired in their careers, that they would’ve been far too busy to do anything else. Well, somehow all three of them found a way to become a police chief of predominantly African American cities. Unexpected right?

Sammy Davis Jr. was the second of the trio to become police chief, when he was appointed in 1975. He became the chief of police for the small town of Langston, Oklahoma, after accepting the appointment from then mayor, A.B. Prewitt.

Flip Wilson was the third outta the legendary pack to accept his role as police chief of the small town of Boley, Oklahoma.

Also, as we previously reported, Redd Foxx was the first of the group, to be appointed police chief of the predominantly Black town. He was also the most vocal about it. In case y’all missed our prior report, check it out below:

In 1974 THE Redd Foxx became a police chief of Tafta, Oklahoma- a predominantly African American community of just 437 people. And yes, this was during the SAME time he was starring on “Sanford and Son.” That’s right, Redd Foxx would record his TV show during the day, do stand-up comedy at night, and drop by Tafta, Ok. to check on what he referred to as ‘his’ city on the weekends and every other chance he got. Ain’t that something?!!

Red explained to Jet Magazine in a 1974 interview, that he took his job as police chief very seriously:

“I told you this wouldn’t be no token job,” Foxx stated. And he also wanted it to be clear that he was the official police chief of Tafta and not some decorated and celebrated “honorary” one: “I want that clearly understood, Foxx stated. The deputies are official police who have full powers in my absence.”

Redd was the real deal in Tafta, he was there to swear in new deputies and make sure they were all doing their jobs correctly. In fact, a lot of the today’s police departments need a police chief like Redd Foxx. Check out how Redd trained his officers:

Via Jet: Redd Foxx admonished his deputies to “be careful; use a minimum of force” in carrying out their duties. […] “I want to be proud of this town,” Foxx told the deputies. “The eyes of the whole nation will be on Taft and we don’t want to give the impression that we are going to be hard-boiled about the law enforcement here.”

Redd Foxx continued…

“We don’t want to get a reputation for busting heads. I want you to dress neatly and gain respect.”

Like we said, we wish Redd Foxx were here to train some of these police chiefs and officers today, Lawd knows we need it.

Foxx’s main mission in being chief of Taft police at that time was building up the small community and maintaining peace:

“Taft will no longer be a forgotten town. We want paved streets and lights. We’re working to get them,” Foxx stated at that time.

So how did Redd Foxx actually become a police chief?
The idea came from Taft’s then mayor, Lelia Foley (pictured with Foxx in above left pic), the first Black mayor in the history of the U.S.. Foley stated this about Foxx at that time:

“I’m with him all the way and everyone in taft is proud of our famous chief of police.”

Foxx was extremely dedicated to making Taft a better place…not only did he work closely with the mayor and was very hands-on with his deputies, he also donated thousands of dollars to build the community up, including a new community swimming pool for the children of Tafta.

This says a lot about Redd Foxx’s character. He was the one of the most in-demand entertainers on TV, but yet he committed himself to a small town of just 437 people at that time. Although of course whenever people in the neighboring cities of Muskogee and Tulsa, Ok. would hear that there was an upcoming swearing-in ceremony of deputies and such, that town of 437 looked more like 4,037. Folks from all over the state would travel to Taft just to get a glimpse of the famous chief of Tafta police.

As the late music/acting icon, Sammy Davis Jr., was dying, he was also reportedly dealt a huge setback by Donald Trump. Ultimately, Sammy’s Rat Pack partner and close friend, the late Frank Sinatra, had to stand up for him against Trump, according to Sinatra’s former manager.

In his upcoming memoir, “The Way it Was,” Sinatra’s ex-manager, Eliot Weisman, details the time that he damn near choked Trump, and Sinatra told Trump to “Go f**k himself”…in that order. Apparently, just like Trump did during his presidency, Weiss says the beef started between them due to Trump’s offensive tactics and comments.

What Happened Between Trump, Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr.?

Weisman said the drama went down in 1990, the same year Sammy Davis Jr. passed away from throat cancer. Although Sammy had terminal cancer, he was still performing to earn money. Sinatra’s manager said Trump blocked Sammy and Sinatra from getting the payment they were already scheduled to receive from their then-upcoming Taj Mahal performance.

According to Weisman, Trump stepped in at the last minute and tried to undercut them by cutting Sammy and their opening act out of the performance altogether. Therefore, the then deathly-ill Sammy Davis Jr. couldn’t earn the much needed money he thought he had coming to him at that time:

According to [Eliot] Weisman, Trump started off the new negotiations by saying that the cost for the 12 dates Sinatra was slated to perform was “a little rich.” The Donald also decided he didn’t need to book the other acts that were part of the original deal, including Sammy Davis Jr…. and Steve and Eydie.

But the reported drama didn’t stop there between Trump, Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr….

Via NYDailyNews: According to Weisman, he had a deal in place with the new venue’s operator, Mark Grossinger Etess, who died in a helicopter crash before they could cross the T’s and dot the I’s. That’s when The Donald got involved. Weisman said that Paul Anka warned him at Etess’ funeral that he was about to learn the meaning of “The Art of the Deal,” which is the title of Trump’s how-to book in wheeling and dealing.

The manager says Sinatra then told Trump to ‘go f*&k himself’:

“Who’s Steve and Eydie?” Trump asked, according to Weisman. Weisman said he then tried choking The Donald by his tie, but his son, who was also at the meeting, restrained him. Weisman called Sinatra to tell him what had happened, and Sinatra told him he had two choices: to tell Trump to go f–k himself or give Trump’s phone number to Sinatra so that he could do it himself. Weisman returned to Trump’s office and told The Donald “Sinatra says go f–k yourself!”

After reportedly telling Trump what to do with his disrespect, Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and their supporting act, Steve and Eydie, were lik,e ‘To hell with Trump and his Taj Mahal.’ Then they took their performances to Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas instead. Sammy Davis Jr. has three children: two sons and one daughter (Tracey). The sons, Jeff and Mark Davis were both adopted, according to what they were told by their parents, Sammy Davis Jr. and actress, May Britt, but questions have always arisen throughout the years because both sons, whom are mixed with African American and White, have been said to resemble their adoptive father, Sammy Davis Jr.

Well when Sammy Davis Jr. was lying on his deathbed in 1990, after being stricken with throat cancer, his son, Mark Davis (who says he works at Costco Supermarket), said that Sammy pulled him close and revealed to him these words: “You are my son.” That’s when Mark’s world was rocked with the revelation that after all these years of thinking he was adopted, he was in fact Sammy’s biological child, or wasn’t he?

His sister and biological daughter of Sammy Davis Jr. and May Britt, Tracey Davis, says she never believed Mark was their father’s biological child, but Mark says there are too many signs that strongly make him believe otherwise, including his birth certificate he laid his eyes on for the first time in 2013, that had Sammy Davis Jr.’s name listed as his birth father. His adoptive mother, May Britt, has confirmed to Mark that she definitely did not give birth to him. So he and his sister took DNA tests on camera and here are the results…

According to Daily Mail:

Mark Davis is not Sammy Davis Jr.’s secret biological son, DNA tests have revealed.

A DNA test carried out by Inside Edition to see if he was related to Britt and the Rat Pack member’s known biological daughter, Tracey, has revealed that they are entirely unrelated. It means that Mark Davis has no idea who either of his real parents are.

The results confirm what Sammy Davis Jr always told friends and family: that Mark, now 55, had been adopted. But [Sammy] entered his name as Mark’s biological father on his birth certificate.

Mark, 55, then told Daily Mail Online said there had always been uncertainty running through his life.

Tracey had been convinced that Mark was not her natural brother, saying: ‘I do not believe for one minute that my father is Mark’s biological father.’

But when the result was confirmed she said it would not affect their close relationship.

‘I love you,’ she told Mark. ‘I love you too,’ he said.

‘I am a huge living question mark and that is because I have never understood anything 100 per cent about where I came from,’ [Mark then] told Daily Mail Online.

Maybe we will never know the real reason why Sammy Davis Jr. uttered those words “You are my son” to Mark on his dying bed, but two possible scenarios could be in question:
(1) When a person is on his dying bed, he’s either not in his right state of mind, or in a very sensible state of mind. Could it be that Sammy was simply a bit outside the realm of reality at that time, or no?

(2) Sammy could have been intentionally making his adopted son Mark, aware of one thing- that although they were not of the same blood, Sammy loved him and viewed him as his own flesh and blood and Mark was his son in his mind, his heart and his soul…no matter what a DNA test could ever prove.

So although they say that blood is thicker than water, could it be that Sammy Davis Jr. was trying to tell Mark that in their case, LOVE is thicker than blood?
